CHAPTER IV FINDING AND DISCUSSION

B. DISCUSSION

This research was conducted in 12 grade of SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Unismuh Makassar with the sample of the research was 19respondents, divided into 18 students were given a questioner and one English teacher was given an interview. The objective of this research was to find out the influences of the Full Day School program on the learning of students.

1. The influence of Fullday School according to the teacher

Education is an activity that should be conscious and intentional, and had a serious responsibility carried out by teacher to the students, than the interaction would be raised. Full day school can be interpreted as a school that teaching and learning process conducted through all day. In this system Schools can arrange lesson schedules freely, according to the weight of the subjects and coupled with the deepening of the material.

Setting schedule subjects and deepening as a priority that would be given to the students.

From the interview that was given to the English teacher who teach in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Unismuh Makassar, researcher concluded that the application of Full Day School in that school was successful done, were it can be seen from the interview result that there some increasing in students‟ academic such as academic achievement of the students, students attitudes, behaviors, English skills, in and out class activeness and the efficiency of learning and productive time of the students.

2. The influence of Fullday School according to the students

From the result of the questioner that was given to the 18 students as a respondent and observations in class when learning English, the researcher can concluded that the entire respondent was welcome to the full day School system which is applied in their school. From the questioner, we know that students have some response to the Full day School, at list they agree with the system of school were they said that they got a lot of positive impact of it, a half of students have some difficulties in the process of full day school. Most of them have difficulties in the time of full day school where they admit that they are tired to follow the entire schedule, and tired of the given of the homework. It gives a great influence on the academic students, which is very influential on cognitive, contains behaviors that emphasize intellectual aspects, such as knowledge, understanding, and thinking skills. Besides that, Affective contains behaviors that emphasize aspects of feelings and emotions, such as interest, attitudes, appreciation, and ways of adjustment.

The different of my research with other research is if inBenawa et al (2018), the result of the study aims to put forward that full day school is effective for students‟ character building which is focused on the implementation of full day school system. They use a qualitative research method applied in the study was observation, interview, and documentation analysis. The result is concluded that the full day school system is significantly effective in education system for elementary students‟ character building. While in my research was to find out the

influences of the Full Day School program on the learning of students seen from the academic development.

CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION A. Conclusion

Based on the finding on the previous chapter, the researcher formulated some conclusion about the influence of full day school on students‟ academic development. We concluded that:

The implementation of full day school system has a positive influence on student academic improvement. It can be seen from some aspects based on the curriculum 2013 which is one of the factors supporting the existence of this system.Not only the increase or the final academic value achievement. But it can be seen by several other factors such as the improvement in attitudes, skills, activeness and relationships between students and teachers, between fellow students and also students activeness, both inside and outside the school, especially in the classroom when the learning process takes place, it will also have a big influence on the final academic achievement of students.As we know that this system is closely related to the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum, in which there are several important aspects which are the objectives of the full day school system. Besides that, there are some other things that make students feel tired and very monotonous when studying, namely the provision of homework after a period of time having to study in class everyday which makes them feel too crowded and not fun because the methods used are also really boring.

B. Suggestion

Considering the result of this research, the researcher offers suggestion as follows:

The teacher should improve or be as creative as possible in this case, making new innovations to make learning methods that are not so boring and monotonous especially making students more active in the classroom. It‟s like learning outside the classroom (outdoor learning), doing some interactive game treatments, and utilizing all existing facilities.

In following the full-day teaching and learning process students must be able to adjust and follow all the learning methods presented by the teacher, students also should actively participate in all activities at school, so that all the time and opportunities provided by the full-day school system can be used effectively and objectively.

Further researchers are expected to make the results of this study as a reference to further research. It is also hoped that further researchers can focus their research so that the results obtained can be more specific.

P : I think that Full day School is a good formal learning concept to be applied in schools

I : Do you agree or not with the implementation of full day school? And what is the reason?

P : Yes, I agree with the implementation of full day school. Because full-day school provides sufficient time and opportunities for student learning and development at school, so students have good academic development and stabilization.

I : Ok. What is the impact of full day school on learning English?

P : Of course the most visible impact is the availability of learning time and more learning intensity, so that learning can be done more deeply.

I : Well. What is your opinion about the implementation of full day school in SMA Muhammadiyah 1 Unismuh Makassar exactly?

P : This school has implemented a full day school for more than 2 years, where there were no serious obstacles in the process. Teachers and students are also seen to quickly and easily adjust to this full day system.

I : What is the impact of implementing Full day School on student academic improvement?

P : So as we know, academic improvement is not only seen from the grades of students, other things that are assessed are also the attitudes, skills and activeness of students. Of course the academic activities of students seem to increase dramatically, where they are more active with the methods used by the teacher, yaaaa it back again because of the availability of sufficient time. Many things can also be learned at school, the closeness of students and teachers is also more visible intertwined.

I : What are the benefits of full day school for students from the teacher's perspective?

P : Based on what I see, students are more productive in school (what I mean here is about academics), also the closeness of fellow students and also to the teacher is better. Students also easily follow activities in school.

I : Does Makassar Muhammadiyah 1 High School qualify as a school with a full day school system?

P : I thinkso, I think this school is really ready for full day school.

I : Had Full day School been effectively applied to the High School level from the perspective of the teacher?

P : Well, it is very necessary for high school level students to implement full day schools, where students will be able to make more use of their time at school, can

increase their interests and talents more at school and also students will have enough time to interact.

I : What influence is really visible on students in the application of full day school, especially in learning English from your perspective?

P : In the process of learning English in the classroom it is clear that students enjoy learning more, because we as teachers also have enough time to develop the methods used.

I : Any other things that have an influence on the implementation of Full day School in addition to teachers and students?

P : Another thing that I found, yes, most complaints from students who complain about time off and assignments that they think can sometimes burden their activities.
