CHAPTER III RESEARCH METHOD
B. Discussion
In this part, the discussion covers the interpretation of the research findings derived from the result of the students’ speaking skill. The result of this research showed that the students’ speaking skill at second grade of SMPN 5 Mandai in the academic year 2019/2020 has improved. Based on the result in applying animation movie as media in teaching speaking in the class, the data was collected through speaking test as previous section showed that the students’ speaking was significantly improve in their accuracy and fluency in speaking skill. The students score after applying animation movie as media in teaching was better than before the treatment was given to the students.
Before giving the treatment, there were 32 students got less score. It means that 100% students got less score in pretest of accuracy and fluency. After the researcher gave the treatment, there were improvement in posttest in accuracy and fluency. Where in posstest of vocabulary were
26 or 81.2% students got good score, 6 or 18.8% students got fair score. In posstest of pronunciation were 25 or 78.2% students got good score, 7 or 21.8% students get fair score. In posstest of fluency were 13 or 40.7% got good score, and 19 or 59.3% students got fair score.
In accuracy of speaking, the mean score pre test of vocabulary was 55.72 and the post test 76.31. The mean score of pronunciation was 54.44 and the post test 74.63. It show that there was a significant improvement accuracy. In order to know the level of significance (P= 0.05), degree of freedom (df= n-1) where (df=32-1= 31).
In fluency of speaking, the mean score of pre test was 53.72 and mean score of post test was 69.97. It show that there is a significant improvement in speaking skill. Therefore, it has an improvement from the score of pretest and post test namely 69.97>53.72 (the mean score of post test is greater than the mean score of pre test). In order to know the level of significance (P= 0.05), degree of freedom (df= n-1) where (df=32-1=
31).
Based on the result above, hypothesis test shows that Null Hyphotesis (H0) was rejected and Alternative Hyphothesis (H1) was accepted. Where comparison between the students’ t-test and t-table show the value of t-test greater than t-table (22.207>2.039). Therefore the researcher concluded that there were significant difference of the students’
speaking skill deal with accuracy and fluency before and after applying animation movie.
Meanwhile, the previous research shows by Rasyid (2016) the study entitled “Using Cartoon Movie to Improve Speaking Skill” is aimed to find out whether the use of English cartoon movie can improve students’
achievement at second grade of SMU Abulyatama. The samples of this study were 20 students of class 2 IPA2. To collect the data, the writer utilized experimental design one group pre-test and post-test. The instrument used was oral test. The speaking aspects covered in this study were grammar, vocabulary, and pronunciation. The result shows that the students’ speaking score increased in all aspects. The grammar aspect noted the highest/significant increase because some of students’ achieved very low in grammar before using the movie in learning, but later the significant improvement is on the grammar aspect. It increased from 25 to 44 or 19 points. It explains that the English cartoon movie can be one of the good materials to improve students’ speaking skills, particularly in grammar aspect.
Herni (2015) the study entitled “ The Influence of Using Cartoon Video on The Students’ Speaking Ability”. The researcher apply Experimental method with group pre-test-postest design. The sample of the research is class Seventh year students of Mts Muhammadiyah Tongko Enrekang in the Academic year 2014/2015, which consist of 27 students. The sample were taken by Cartoon video. The result of the research is the mean score obtain in prestest by the students’ speaking in terms of accuracy in speaking skills was 4.58, post test is 6,66 and total score in progress is
2.08. the students’ speaking in terms of fluency in speaking skills is 500, posttest is 7.62 and total score in progress is 2.62. Which value t-test is higher than the value of t-table (5.90>2.056). It is concluded that the Cartoon Video to develop the students’ Speaking Skill. So, Null Hypothesis (H0) was rejected and Alternative Hypothesis (H1) is accept.
Ismaili (2014) “The Effectiveness of Using Movies in the EFL Classroom- A Study Conducted at South European University” The researcher analyzes the effects of using movies in the EFL classroom. It reveals its effects on developing students listening and communication skill. The study was conducted on a sample of two groups : an experimental and a control group thought conventionally. The Study was carried out at the South East European University in the academic year 2011/2012. The participants in this study were pre-intermediate and intermediate level of students, aged 18-25. The result of the study have shown that significant differences between experimental and control group of students in integrated skills, using video incorporated in the teaching material. The study concluded that movies attract students’ attention, present language in a more natural way that found in course-book.
