The informants are

from the students of UIN Mataram. The researcher obtained the data through observation, interview and documentation. The data obtained in the form of observation, interview results and the form of documentation or photo during the process of completing this research. The present research is a qualitative descriptive, so the answer of the problem statements also will be explained here based on the analysis of the data.

Furthermore, the finding will be discussed with the relevant references from the related research with this research and from the experts to justify the research findings on what types of social media that often used by the students for improving skill in digital era and the role of social media as the platforms to improve students‘ speaking skill in digital era.

A. Types of Social Media That Most Often Accessed as the Platforms for Learning Speaking by the Students

Based on the results of interviews conducted, researcher found that all students use social media as their platform in learning speaking outside of class. There are several types of social media that were most often used by students as platforms to improve their speaking skills and with various strategies and some of the advantages and disadvantages of social media that they can get. In addition, the role each platform has also plays an important role in improving students' speaking skills.

After conducting interviews with students majoring in English, the researcher then analyzed the data before presenting the organized data.

Finally, this study found that on average students use YouTube and Instagram social media more as platforms for learning and improving their speaking skills. Apart from that, some students also use Whatsapp, Tik- Tok, Facebook, Telegram and Spotify as their platforms to learn to improve speaking skills. This is of course in line with the results of a previous study that this type of social media can improve students' speaking skills. This is of course also in line with a study by Ariantini et.

al, which states that through diverse exercises that matched the capabilities offered by the relevant social media, YouTube, WhatsApp, Facebook,

Instagram, and Twitter have all been regularly used as English learning resources103. Riswandi also mentioned that there was an increase in students' speaking skills when learning using YouTube.104 In addition, Azlan et al, stated that Instagram can encourage students to practice speaking English and boost their desire in doing so, while also enhancing their speaking abilities.105

It is also in line with Rini‘s study, who also stated that in the twenty-first century, learning mediums other than books are provided through the educational system. Internet resources like Youtube and Instagram provide access to educational media. Instagram and Youtube are used by Akbid Karya Bunda Husada pupils to practice their English.

Most people, according to perception, firmly concur that using Instagram and Youtube as learning resources to advance their English language abilities is entertaining and simple. the same time improve their speaking skills. This is in line with Lapele who stated that the use of social media as a medium for learning speaking has a positive influence, namely as means of communication that is in high demand, as an interactive trigger tool and student motivation, and as a collaborative tool.107

Premana et. al, stated that the implementation of learning using video blog media can be used for students in understanding reading, tutoring and speaking learning material, so that it can result in an increase in understanding of English.108 This study also found that on average students apply the same thing in using social media as a platform to learn and improve their speaking skills by watching videos and then practicing the material they get.

The results of this study also in line with Indrastana and Rinda study where YouTube vlogs for teaching-learning speaking may be used to integrate mobile-assisted language learning. Teachers may utilize the YouTube vlog implementation as a teaching technique in which they present a topic, allow students to produce their own vlogs, and use the already-existing vlogs on YouTube as genuine speaking teaching-learning materials. Students are urged to do peer and self-assessments in order to

fully use the use of YouTube vlogs in teaching and learning speaking.

This way, they may not only practice speaking by making vlogs but also learn how to evaluate or examine their own work. The use of YouTube vlogs in learning speaking may have positive effects on students' engagement, confidence, and ability to communicate in English, as well as on their ability to be creative and think critically.109

Besides, Jhon and Yunus in their study emphasized the numerous social media tools that students can use and are familiar with, and used those tools to aid students in developing their speaking abilities. The research that were looked at also showed the influence or advantages of social media applications that assisted students in lowering their speaking fear, boosting their speaking confidence, and simultaneously increasing their motivation to utilize the language. This demonstrates how social media's affordances make it a flexible, helpful tool for assisting educators in becoming knowledge creators and brokers rather than only information or knowledge providers.110

To sum up, social media has various advantages in that social media can be utilized by its users in improving speaking skills in today's
