CHAPTER IV FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIOM

A. Findings

There are 5 parts and 22 items of questionnaire. The students were asked to answer the questionnaire. After collecting the data, the researcher analysed the data to get percentage and the data is presented in the form of table. The analysis starts with the reports on the students‟ responses towards each item.

1. The Students’ Perception Regarding on Elements of Group Work in Positive Interdependence.

Students‟ perception regarding on elements of group work in positive interdependence were collected through the first part. In this part, there were several statements that had been responded by the students.

Table 4.1 showed that 13 students (61.90%) students choose strongly agree that group work teach them to help each other. While, there were

33.33% of students choose agree. On the other hand, only 4.76% of students disagree with the statements. In short, students agreedin statement number one because, in group work they can help each other.

Table 4.2 showed that there were 57.14% of students who strongly agreed with the statement number 2, which is I enjoy working together in group work activities. There were 33.33% of students agreed with the statement. On the other hand, only 4.76% of students choose undecided and 4.76% of students choose disagree. From the students response it could be seen that most of students experienced that group work make students enjoy when doing group work.

Table 4.3 showed that 11 students (52.38%) choose strongly agree with the statement I like group work activities because it helps me and my

friends to exchange ideas or opinions. While, there were 33.33% of students choose agree and 14.28% of students choose undecided with the statement.

Briefly, group work made students to exchange their ideas.

Table 4.4 showed that 47.61% of students choose strongly agree with the statement I like to help troubled of friends in group work activities. There were 42.86% of students choose agree, while there were 9.52% of students choose undecided with the statement. In conclusion, most of students experienced that they like to help troubled of friends in group work and no one students who do not like, but there were students undecided.

Table 4.5 showed that most of the students choose agree with the fifth statement. It result 61.90%. There were 23.81% of students choose strongly agree. While there were only 9.52% of students choose undecided and 4.76%

of students choose disagree with the statement. To sum up, students agreed in statement number 5 because, group work makes them close with their friends.

Based on the result analysis above, it can be concluded that students agreed in the every statement. It showed from the students has answer, mostly students agreed in the first statement i.e. „‟group work teach me to help each other‟‟. Also mostly students agreed with the statement „‟I enjoy working together in group work‟‟.

2. The Students Perception Regarding on Elements of Group Work in Individual Accountability.

Students‟ perception regarding on elements of group work in individual accountability were collected through the second part. In this part, there were several statements that had been responded by the students.

Table 4.6 showed that, there were only 9.52% of students who strongly agreed and 57.14% of students who agreed with the statement. On the other hand, there were 33.33% of students who undecided with the statement. In summary, most of the students agreed that group work make them participate when doing group work but some students undecided.

Table 4.7 showed that there were 9.52% of students who strongly agreed and 38.10% who agreed that group work trains me to be responsible.

While, there were 42.86% of students who undecided and there were 9.52%

of students who disagreed with the statement. In short, most of the students agreed with the statement but there were some students undecided to be responsible when doing group work.

Table 4.8 showed that 14.29% of students who strongly agreed that group work train my leadership, while 38.10% of students agreed with the statement. On the other hand, there were42.86% of students who undecided and there were 4.76% of students who disagreed with the statement. In that

case, most of the students agreed with the statement butsome students‟

undecided with the statement.

Table 4.9 showed that 23.80% of students who strongly agreed that I was able to find solutions in group work, while 38.10% of students who agreed with the statement. On the other hand there were 38.10% of students who undecided with the statement. From group work experienced students able to find solutions from the problem that happened.

Table 4.10 showed that, there were 33.33% of students who strongly agreed that group work help them to more easily understand the English material, while 38.10% who agreed with the statement. On the other hand, there were 14.29% who undecided and disagreed with the statement. On the

other hand, most of the students‟ agreed that group work helped them to more easily understand about the English material.

Table 4.11 showed that 57.14% of students who strongly agreed that group work helps me to more quickly complete the assignment that was given by the teacher, while 23.80% of students who agreed with the statement.

Meanwhile, there were 14.29% of students who undecided with the statement and only 4.76% of students who disagreed with the statement. Briefly, Experience of students in doing group work helped them to complete the assignment that was given by the teacher.

Consequently, the result analysis above can be concluded that mostly students agreed in the statement „‟group work activities help me to more quickly complete the assignments that was given by the English teacher‟‟. In the same way students also agreed with the statements „‟I was able to find solutions in group work‟‟ and „‟group work help me to more understand the English material‟‟. Besides, there were some students who undecided with the statements „‟group work trains me to be responsible‟‟ and „‟group work trains

my leadership spirit‟‟. In summary most of the students agreed with the statements.

3. The Students’ Perception Regarding on Elements of Group Work in Equal Participation.

Students‟ perception regarding on elements of group work in equal participation were collected through the third part. In this part, there were several statements that had been responded by the students.

Table 4.12 showed that, there were 19.04% of students who strongly agreed that group work activities make me active in learning and 76.19% of students who agreed with the statements. Meanwhile, there were 4.76% of students who undecided with the statement. On the other hand, group work makes students active in learning.

Table 4.13 showed that, there were 23.81% of students who strongly agreed with the statement that „‟I prefer group work than individual work‟‟

and there were 42.86% of students who agreed with the statement.

Meanwhile, there were 19.04% students who undecided with the statement and there were 14.29% who disagreed with the statement. In short, most of students like group work but some students like individual work.

Table 4.14 showed that the result of the students‟ response towards statement number 14 was quite different. There were only 38.10% of students who strongly agreed with the statement that I do not like friends who are not active in group work and there were 19.04% of students who agreed with the statement. Meanwhile, there were 19.04% of students who disagreed with the statement and there were 23.80% of students who strongly disagreed with the statement. From the response of the students, some students do not like their friends who are not active in group work but there were students who are still like their friends even though they are not active.

Table 4.15 showed that there were 42.86% of students who strongly agreed with the statement number 15, which is, I prefer that the teacher divides the groups. There were 28.57% of students who agreed with the statement. Meanwhile, there were only 14.29% of students who responded it with both undecided and disagreed with the statement. Hence, dividing the groups is very important to students because it is affect students attitude in group work. Most of the students like if the teacher divided the groups.

Therefore, the result analysis above, students agreed with the every statement. Mostly students agreed with the statement „‟group work activities make me active in learning‟‟. Besides, there were some students who disagreed with the statement „‟I do not like friends who are not active in group work‟‟.

4. The Students’ Perception Regarding on Elements of Group Work in Simultaneous Interaction.

Students‟ perception regarding on elements of group work in equal participation were collected through the fourth part. In this part, there were several statements that had been responded by the students.

Table 4.16 showed that the result of the students‟ response towards statement number 16 was quite different from the previous results. There were 42.86% of students who agreed with the statement number 16, which is, group work activities taught me how to respect the opinion of others and 57.14% of students who agreed with the statement. There was no response for undecided, disagree, and strongly disagree. In short, group work taught students to respect the opinions of others.

Table 4.17 showed that there were 52.38% of students who choose strongly agree and 42.86% of students who choose agree with the statement that group work activities teach me not to prioritize personal interests but to prioritize common interests. On the other hand, there were 4.76% of students

who choose undecided with the statement. Briefly, group work taught students to prioritize common interest.

Hence, the result analysis above, students agreed with two statements.

Which are „‟group work activities taught me how to respect opinions of others‟‟ and „‟group work activities taught me not to prioritize personal interest but to prioritize common interests‟‟. It is means that group work taught the students to respect the opinion of others and to prioritize common interests.

5. The Students’ Perception Regarding on Elements of Group Work in Group Processing.

Students‟ perception regarding on elements of group work in equal participation were collected through the fifth part. In this part, there were several statements that had been responded by the students.

Table 4.18 showed the result that, there were 19.04% of students who choose strongly agree and 33.33%of students who choose agree with the statement number 18, which is group work activities can improve my speaking skills. On the other hand, there were 23.81% of students who choose undecided and disagreed with the statement. Briefly, most of the students

agreed that group work can improve their speaking skill, but some students undecided and disagree with the statement.

Table 4.19 showed that 9.52% of students who strongly agreed with the statement that group work activities help me to increase my self- confidence. There were 33.33% of students who agreed with the statement, while 52.38% of students who undecided and 4.76% of students who disagreed with the statement. On the other hand, most of the students agree with the statement but there were some student undecided with the statement.

Table 4.20 showed that, there were 42.86% of students choose strongly agree and 52.38% of students who choose agree with the statement number 20, which is, group work activities help me to find new ideas.

Meanwhile, there were 4.76% of students who undecided with the statement.

In short, students can find new ideas when doing group work.

Table 4.21 showed that the result of the 21 statement from the last part was slightly different from the previous result. There were 19.04% of students who strongly agreed with the statement, which is, I feel happy to be a leader in group work and 38.10% of students who agreed with the statement.

Meanwhile, there were 28.57% of students who undecided with the statement.

On the hand, there were 9.52% of students who disagreed with the statement and 4.76% of students who strongly disagreed with the statement of number 21. In summary, most of the students felt happy to be a leader in group work, but unfortunately some students do not like to be a leader in group work.

Table 4.22 showed that most of the students strongly agree with the last statement. There were 52.30% of students who strongly agree. On the

other hand, there were 38.10% of students who agreed, while there were only 9.52% of students who responded it with undecided. In short, group work gives benefit to the students.

Based on the result analysis above, most of the students agreed with the statement „‟group work activities help me to find new ideas‟‟. It can be concluded that mostly students agreed with the statement. Nevertheless, there were some students disagreed with the statement „‟group work activities can improve my speaking skills‟‟.

As a consequence of the result analysis on the five elements of group work, it showed that most of the students agreed with the statements. If sorted from high to low that is started from simultaneous interaction, positive interdependence, equal participation, group processing, and the last is individual accountability. In short, group work technique facilitated students in English learning and gives benefit to the students.
