CHAPTER III DISCUSSION
A. The Level of Reading Interest in Reading English Journal

motivation has a relationship with students’ ability to cope the problem.35
Everyone especially student has their own motivation, way of learning, learning objectives, and interest in learning.
Based on the 15 item statements in questionnaire of students’
interests in reading English journal articles. Researcher found there were 40 students who have different category in interest in reading English journal articles. First, there were 8 students (20%) who have categories in
“Very High” category and the range score for “Very High” category is 46- 60. Second, there were 29 students (72,5%) were in “High” category which range score is 31-45. Third, there were 3 students (7,5%) were in
“High Enough” category which range score is 16-30. In questionnaire result that 29 respondents (72,5%) gave the highest response “Agree” to
the statement number 1 (I like reading English journal articles). It means that the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program have an interests in reading English journal articles.
Based on questionnaire result these were four statements that most students chose, namely number 1 (I like reading English journal articles) got 29 responses (72,5%), number 2 (I concentrate on reading English journal articles) got 28 responses (70%), number 7 (I like the English journal articles discussion) got 26 responses (65%), number 12 (I usually look for English journal articles when I am in the library or searching on

Internet) got 25 responses (62,5%), number 13 (I have an interest with the English journal articles because it can increase the knowledge) got 24 responses (60%), number 14 (I prefer to read the English journal articles than other kind of reading material ) got 24 responses (60%).
The response of many students given to number 1 which states “I like reading English journal articles” proves that the fifth semester
students of English Language Education Study Program at State Islamic University of Mataram have an interest in reading English journal articles.
The reason that students like English journal articles is sure because they have benefited from the broader knowledge and insight. For the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program, they are getting used to reading English journal articles for personal reading or lecture materials that have been provided by the lecturer.
The response of many students also given to number 2 which states
“I concentrate on reading English journal articles” with many responses
from students that they agree to concentrate on reading English journal articles, this shows that students of English Language Education Study Program are very deep in and enjoy the content of the journal. The content of journal that are accurate and reliable make anyone who reads it will not feel loss because the insight will be broader for sure.
Then, the response of many students given to number 7 which states “I like the English journal articles discussion”. If someone already wants to explore something, it is certain that someone has an interest and
passion for it. The fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program showed a response that they like discussion about journal.
This means that students are able to exchange ideas to discuss the content of the journal with their lecturer or fiend. In the class, students will be good at expressing their opinion. In this case, student can also improve their English language skills such as reading skill, listening skill, speaking skill, and writing skill.
Furthermore, the response of many students given to number 12 which states “I usually look for English journal articles when I am in the library or searching on Internet” this shows that the fifth semester students
of English Language Education Study Program have their own desires in fulfilling their reading material needs. The students try to find topic that match their wishes thus they can read journal with the topic that they want.
It is very good when students have an interest in reading English journal articles and try to fulfill this by themselves, it means will make them accustomed to reading English journal articles which have academic language that was difficult to understand.
The next is the response of many students also given to number 13 which states “I have an interest with the English journal articles because it can increase the knowledge”. The fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program have an interest in reading English journal articles because for them journal was very helpful in adding
knowledge, as a reference for preparing thesis title, and good reading material for lectures, discussion, and adding vocabulary memorization.
Then, the response of many students given to number 14 which states “I prefer to read the English journal articles than other kind of reading material”. Journal form that were solid, clear, and concise. This makes it easier for students to read and understand.
In conclusion, the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program at State Islamic University of Mataram have a high level of reading interest, this was indicated by the results of questionnaire which refer to their interest and passion for English journal articles.
B. The Factors that Influence Students’ Reading Interest in Reading English Journal Articles of The Fifth Semester Students of English Language Education Study Program at State Islamic University of Mataram
Based on interview result in the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program of State Islamic University of Mataram. The following were an explanation of the factors that influence students’ reading interest in reading English journal articles.
1. Lectures Reading Material
Students majoring in English Language Education Study Program are indeed familiar with English journal articles. It was stated by informant W, R, and L because English journal articles was often
used as references for doing course work, references in choosing thesis title, or just as reading material. The benefits obtained from reading journal was also a factor for students in pursuing it.
2. Willingness to Read
Informant M, H, and L stated that they do not read English journal articles only because they are student in English Language Education Study Program. The reason in reading English journal articles because aware that a lot of knowledge they gain from reading.
Improve English Language skills for sure.
3. The Role of English Journal Articles
The role of English journal articles is very meaningful for the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program.
It stated by all of informants, English journal articles makes easier for students to do assignments and improve students’ English language
skills.
4. Advantages of English Journal Articles
One of the factors that influence the fifth semester students’
reading interest in English journal articles is benefits obtained from English journal articles. Informant M states that reading English journal articles was very good for gaining insight in writing thesis title, research description, and help student in writing an essay. Meanwhile, informant L stated that by diligently reading English journal articles, she became aware of how to write articles and journal with a good
writing structure. As part of academics in the scope of higher education, journal was very helpful in all matters relating to the teaching and learning process, discussion, and references.
5. Benefits for Language Skills
All of informants states that journal with its benefits to improve language skills from its contents which hone students’ mindset, critical thinking, increased vocabulary, grammar. This is the students’ view of
journal thus students do not mind that journal become part of themselves as students of English Language Education Study Program.
In conclusion, researcher got in-depth research result regarding the factors that influence the reading interest of the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program at State Islamic University of Mataram. In this case, students already have their own awareness that reading is an activity that must be accustomed to themselves, especially for students who is in the scope of higher education. Another finding was stated by Eka Fajar Rahmani (2019) that the reading interest of English Language Education Students of FKIP at Tanjungpura University was based on the results of the analysis, it was found that six out of the seven indicators of interest in reading articles in scientific journal showed that these students had no interest in journals with percentage of 86%. Journal was the level of reading articles in scientific journal, indicating that 88%
of the total respondents have never read an article in scientific journal in
one semester.36 It was different from the finding of research in Study Program of English Language Education students at Islamic University of Mataram which the level of reading interests in reading English journal articles was in High category. A similar finding was stated by Siswati (2010) that the benefits of reading obtained by Psychology Faculty students UNDIP were new inspiration, references, new vocabulary, completing assignment, discussion material, participating in competition, improving faith, adding experience, and refreshing the brain.37 The effect that was felt by individual when reading habit and interest were formed that it will provide various benefit. Then, another finding also was stated by Maria Novita Inya Buku and Florentina Y. Sepe (2019) that the condition of students’ reading interest in Biology Education Program FKIP
Widya Mandira Catholic University shows that there was 1 student who has very low reading interest (0,91%), 57 students have low reading interest (51,82%), 52 students have moderate reading interest (47,27%), and there was no student has high reading interest.38

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION
This chapter presents the conclusion and suggestion of this study.
Conclusion will be drawn from the research results, while suggestion will be addressed to students of English Language Education Study Program, lecturers of English Language Education Study Program, and future researchers.
A. Conclusion
Based on the discussion of research, the researcher presents conclusion as follows.
Firstly, the level of reading interest in reading English journal articles of the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program at State Islamic University of Mataram can be said as high level. This is based on the result of questionnaire, the fifth semester students categorized into very high, high, and high enough category of students’ interest. There were percentages of the students’
interests, 8 students (20%) were at “Very High” category, 29 students (72,5%) were at “High” category, and 3 students (7,5%) were at “High Enough” category in interest in reading English journal articles.
Secondly, there were five factors that influence students’
reading interest in reading English journal articles of the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program at State
Islamic University of Mataram those were lectures reading material, willingness to read, the role of English journal articles, advantages of English journal articles, benefits for language skills. Based on the research finding, these factors do affect the high level reading interest of the fifth semester students of English Language Education Study Program in reading English journal articles.
B. Suggestions
Based on the discussion of research, the researcher presents several suggestions for student of English Language Education Study Program, lecturers of English Language Education Study Program, State Islamic University of Mataram, and future researchers.
1. Student of English Language Education Study Program
The researcher is expected to be a reference for students who want to know the role of journal.
2. Lecturers of English Language Education Study Program
Lecturer can find out students’ interest so that in the future
lecturer can find ways to guide students to optimize students’
abilities such as including students in scientific writing competition and other competition.
3. State Islamic University of Mataram
It is hoped that the results of this research can be a reference for University in its performance to continue to improve the ability of students in any field, especially in reading journal by
facilitating students with comfortable environment of university to read, because reading can be anywhere, not only in the library.
4. Future Researchers
The researcher hopes that future researcher can carry out deeper research on students’ interests in reading English journal articles.
