AMUZU, EDWARD TUINESE of Ghana has been appointed the Executive Director of the Legal Resources Centre (LRC), a national non-profit organization in Ghana dedicated to human rights capacity building for individuals, groups and other non-profits. In the last year, he led a team of LRC lawyers to institute a habeas corpus action against the Minister of Justice on behalf of the Minister for Interior, the Inspector General of Police and the Director General of the Ghana Immigration Ser vice for the unlawful arrests and detention of six hundred and thir ty Liberian refugees who are women and children. He also led the legal team in a cour t action for an writ of mandamus to compel the Electoral Commission of Ghana to register Ghanaian prisoners in anticipation of voting in public elections and referenda. In July 2008, Mr. Amuzu par ticipated in the Conference on the Rule of Law organized by the World Justice Program with the suppor t of the American Bar Association in Vienna, Austria, and a conference on combating cyber crime organized by the U.S. Depar tment of State in Benin, Cotonou.

SCHMIERER, STEFAN of Germany passed his German bar exam in June 2008. During summer 2008, Mr. Schmierer worked for a German law firm in Beijing, P.R.C., for three months and enjoyed the Beijing Summer Olympic Games.
Besides working for the law firm, he gave some lectures to Chinese law students and lawyers about German and European Law.

SUNGI, SIMEON of Tanzania left the firm Foley & Turner in Indianapolis in Fall 2007, to pursue a Master of Ar ts (M.A.) in Criminology and Criminal Justice at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. He graduated in August 2008, and is currently enrolled at Indiana University Bloomington pursuing a Doctorate degree (Ph.D.) in Criminal Justice.
TIAN, FENG of China joined his present employer, Huafa Industrial Co. Ltd. of Zhuhai, China, last August. It is a publicly listed company and a dominating real estate developer in Zhuhai, which is an SEZ (national Special Economic Zone) city neighboring Macau and Hong Kong. Mr.

CHEN, YING of China joined the S.J.D. Program at Indiana University School of Law—Indianapolis in the Fall 2008 Semester.
GEGHAMYAN, ARTYOM of Armenia works for the Ministr y of Justice of the Republic of Armenia as a head of the depar tment for relations with the European Cour t of Human Rights. He represents the Armenian Government’s interests in the ECtHR and also monitors the implementation of its judgments on a domestic level. He teaches at Yerevan State University School of Law and was recently involved in an Academic Fellowship Program which suppor ts young university professors who have earned their degrees abroad.
Mr. Geghamyan par ticipates in the PSFP (Public Ser vice Fellowship Program), funded by the U.S. Depar tment of State, which promotes Muskie fellows in public ser vice.
GUO, QUN of China continues as legal counsel for Nanning Customs Depar tment in Nanning, P.R.C.
HOFFMANN, ALEXANDER of Germany has worked at the German Federal Foreign Office, the Berlin Cour t of Appeals (Landgericht Berlin), and a mid-size law firm situated in downtown Berlin in the course of his legal traineeship (Referendariat). From Januar y until March 2009, he will be a legal intern at the German Federal Parliament (Bundestag), in the 11th Depar tment of Scientific Ser vices (wissenschaftliche Dienste) that deals with EU law, in par ticular. He and his fiancée were married in summer 2008.

HUANG, RAN of China recently passed the New York bar exam. She travels between the law firm where she works in Guangzhou, China, and Windsor, Canada, where her husband is located, and the U.S, where she par tners with AWB Consulting, LLC, which provides international legal ser vices.
LEE, JEONG-HO of Korea (J.D. ’01) passed the Februar y California bar examination and is now admitted to practice in Indiana, Washington, D.C., and California. He is now the General Counsel for CMG Worldwide, Inc., and is spending most of his time in the West Hollywood, CA, of fice. He visited Berlin, Germany, this May to par ticipate in the International Trademark Association’s Annual Meeting.
Mr. Lee enjoyed visiting with fellow LL.M. graduate, Alex Hof fmann, and his wife while he was in Berlin.

She manages Latino immigration cases and is currently involved in a project to bring qualified bilingual nurses from South America to work in U.S. hospitals. She also works par t-time for attorney Timothy Hayes in Terre Haute, Indiana, as a paralegal for personal injur y cases involving Latino clients. She is also in the process to become a cer tified cour t interpreter for the state of Indiana.

AKRAM, UJALA, of Pakistan now ser ves as Senior Advisor for the LL.M. Program IU Law—Indianapolis. Ms. Akram advises current and prospective LL.M. students and assists with marketing, adver tising and promotion for the program. She is also responsible for planning and executing international recruitment trips.
CHEN, SONG of China works at Kevin Ker veng Tung., P.C. in New York, where he has assisted with some mergers and acquisitions. IU Law—Indianapolis administration would like to add that prior to graduating Mr. Chen completed an internship with the Indiana Public Access Counselor where his excellent work received special thanks from the Public Access Counselor in her for ward to the April 2008 update of the Handbook on Indiana’s Public Access Laws.

I U L A W S C H O O L – I N D I A N A P O L I S ’ ENVIRONMENTAL LAW FORUM HOSTED VISITING CHINESE LAWYER, WANG XIAOHUI, (pictured above) this summer while she conducted comparative research o n U. S. environmental law through a fellowship provided by Probe International. Xiaohui works with a prominent Chinese Environmental Law organization, the Center for Legal Assistance to Pollution Victims (CLAPV) in Beijing. She is both a practicing lawyer and a Ph.D. candidate at China University of Political Science and Law, where her dissertation topic relates to environmental law in China.
Xiaohui was in Indianapolis during July and August.
While here she had an opportunity to interact with members of the faculty who teach environmental law, Professors Dan Cole and Eric Dannenmaier, and to meet with Professors Tom Wilson and Gerard Magliocca, who co-direct the law school’s Chinese Law Summer Program. Xiaohui also had the opportunity to meet with practicing lawyers, public interest advocates, and government officials. At the close of her visit, Xiaohui gave a presentation to the faculty on Environment and Health Management in China—discussing the challenges of protecting human health and the environment in the face of enormous development pressures in the worldís largest developing country.
