Five members of the law faculty discussed the issues affecting today's economic problems before a packed house of students, faculty and concerned members of the public. Lynch graduated summa cum laude from law school, where she served as editor-in-chief of the Indiana Law Review. John Pistole, ’81, (center) deputy director of the FBI, chats with community leaders and law school administrators at the reception.

Johnson is also one of the law school's Partners in Progress donors as a member of that campaign's Landmark Society, for donors of $10,000 and above. A member of the law school's Board of Visitors and the IU Foundation Board of Directors, Johnson also serves on the board of the Indianapolis Airport Authority, USA. The site chair for the national conference was Professor Deborah McGregor, assistant director of the Legal Analysis Research and Communications Program at the law school.

Previously, Professor Chestek was a member of the board of directors and treasurer of LWI.

Rounding out the program were two law school alumni who now work in Washington, D.C. MICHAEL WITTE, '82, is the 2008 recipient of the Indiana University Asian Alumni Association's Distinguished Asian Pacific American Alumni Award A lifetime member of the IU Alumni Association, Witte received his bachelor's degree in forensic studies in 1979 and his law degree from the IU School of Law-Indianapolis in 1982.

The award was presented to Witte during a dinner celebrating the 10th anniversary of the IU Asian Cultural Center on Oct. 3 in Bloomington.

KENT FRANDSEN SCHOLARSHIP

Scholarship & Award Recipients 2007-2008

Executive Council of the Tax Division of the Indianapolis Bar Association, this scholarship will go to a student who has excelled in one or more tax classes, with preference given to students with an interest in pursuing a career in Indiana in tax or a tax-related field. field. Established in 2004, this award is sponsored by the Health Law Section of the Indiana State Bar Association. This award is presented by the Taxation Section of the Indiana State Bar Association, of Indianapolis, Indiana.

Westlake INDIANA STATE BAR ASSOCIATION UTILITY LAW SECTION SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is provided by the Indiana State Bar Association Utility Law Section and is awarded to two recipients at one of the four Indiana Law Schools. This annual scholarship was established by the Indianapolis Bar Association and the Bar Foundation in honor of the Honorable S. The scholarship is awarded on a rotating basis such that each of the named scholarships will be awarded every three years.

KELLAMS MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP This scholarship is dedicated to the late Stephen Kellams, who graduated with honors from law school in 1992 and was an attorney at Barnes and Thornburg in Indianapolis. The award is presented to a student who is a member of the Indiana Health Law Review at the end of the student's first year of membership for his or her demonstrated excellence in technical and substantive editing. The Law School co-sponsors an annual labor law seminar with the Indianapolis regional office of the National Labor Relations Board.

It is funded by law school alumni who are or have been employed by Eli Lilly and Company. This award is given to the best lawyer in the final round of the law school's intramural mock court competition. Awarded to the best lawyer in the preliminary rounds of the law school's intramural competition.

Woodard, who was for many years a member of the Indianapolis Bar and a professorial lecturer at the law school. 71, a current member of the Indianapolis Bar and past president of the Indiana Trial Lawyers Association.

DELANO, '79, has been appointed bankruptcy judge of the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Middle District of Florida, Tampa Division.

She is a member of the Florida Bar, the State Bar of California, the Business Law Section of the Florida Bar, the American Bankruptcy Institute, the Federal Bar Association, the Hillsborough County Bar Association, and the Tampa Bay Bankruptcy Bar Association. CHRIS BRAUN, '86, a senior partner with Plews Shadley Racher & Braun, LLP, was selected by the American. College of Environmental Lawyers (ACOEL) as the premier environmental attorney in the state of Indiana.

In addition to serving as longtime general counsel for the Indiana Petroleum Marketers and Convenience Store Association, Braun has been an Adjunct Professor of Law at the Indiana University School of Law - Indianapolis since 2000 and currently serves on several non-profit boards . PAUL FREDERICK, '87, has been named senior legal counsel for Asia at Chevron Global Gas in Singapore. Isaacs is president of the Washington Township Schools Foundation and is a board member of the Health Foundation of Greater Indianapolis and Product Action Growth.

SANDRA SOVINSKI DRUMMOND, '97, has been named managing partner of Myers & Kaplan, Intellectual Property Law, LLC's new office in Orlando, Florida. Currently, he is on the Executive Committee of the Criminal Justice Section of the Indianapolis Bar Association (IBA).

The Indianapolis Bar Association/Indianapolis Bar Foundation Recognition Luncheon Nov. 20 at the Hilton in downtown Indianapolis recognized 12 graduates of the law school. KIMBERLY RICHARDSON, '06, has been selected as one of the nation's "Top 40 Under 40" by The Network Journal for outstanding achievement, contribution, leadership and impact in the corporate arena and service to the African American community. KATE SHELBY, ’08, an associate in the Indianapolis office of Taft Stettinius & Hollister LLP, was recently elected to the Young Professionals of Central Indiana (YPCI) Board of Directors.

In an argument before Chicago's immigration court, law students Lun Kham and Andrea Schmidt recently secured lawful permanent residency for the immigrant parents of three American-born children. The father and mother of the Indianapolis family (from Guatemala and Mexico, respectively) both lived in the United States for about 18 years. Professor Linda Kelly Hill, director of the Immigration Clinic at the law school, said: “The boys are excelling in school, taking advanced classes and have high ambitions for their university education and future.

One of the children also suffers from severe migraines and weight loss and is under close medical supervision. Thanks to the students' work, the parents now have lawful permanent residency and are already looking forward to the day they can be sworn in as citizens of the United States. SEVERAL INDIANA UNIVERSITY SCHOOL OF LAW – INDIANAPOLIS EMPLOYEES traveled to Cairo and Alexandria, Egypt in October for the LL.M.

Orientation of the program in Egypt: Frank Emmert, Director of the Center for International and Comparative Law; Sonja Rice, Egypt Program Coordinator; Terri Cuellar, Director of Technology Services and Jacob Manaloor, Assistant Director of Grants Administration. Our admissions enrollment for the Fall 2008 cohort saw an increase of over 60% from the Spring 2008 cohort.

LL.M. Class Notes

YU HENGLI (Henr y) of China remains with the law firm of King and Wood, Xi'an Office, as a lawyer practicing in the areas of FDI, M&A and IPO. SU, CHENPING of China recently joined a law firm in New York City, where she enjoys the challenges of working as an immigration attorney and representing clients in court. XU, YING (FRANK) of China remains in his position as a partner at the Jia Yuan law firm in Beijing, P.R.C.

GUO, QUN of China continues as legal advisor to Nanning Customs Department in Nanning, P.R.C. He is now the General Counsel for CMG Worldwide, Inc., spending most of his time in the West Hollywood, California office. OAKLEY, JIAXIN (HUANG) from China currently lives in Zionsville, Indiana with her son and husband.

She is also in the process of becoming a certified court interpreter for the state of Indiana. ZHENG, LI LI, from China is a lawyer in Zhejiang Guosheng Law Firm in Zhejiang Province, P.R.C., and is also a part-time teacher in Zhejiang Changzheng Jishu College. LI, JIA from China works as a legal assistant in a small, mixed-practice law firm in New York City.

SHISLER, JANNA (J.D. 1988) of Indianapolis, Indiana, served as a fellow in the Hall Center for Law and Health at IU Law—Indianapolis, where she extended previous graduate legal research to complete work on a publication paper. SU, CHENPING from China, recently joined Theodore Cox Law Firm in New York, where she enjoys the challenges of working as an immigration attorney and representing clients in court. WEI, CUNRUI of China continues to work with Golden Cellular Communications, Co., Ltd., in Beijing, P.R.C.

YAO, CHUCHU, from China, works part-time at an immigration law office in Flushing, New York while studying for the MPRE. YU, LI of China works with Peter Cook and Associates, an estate planning law firm in New Jersey.
