rememberI

andpulling my
head.It
was so pathetic. one dayI hit
him over the headwith
my bag. His parents were very angrywith
me. ButI didn't
feel sorry atall
at that time. Nevertheless, since thenGiant-o
has become my good friend.It
was such an unforgettable childhood.(Adapted

Well, my friends,
I
have a very interesting story. The story is about .BataraKala',
a myth from Java. Have you heard about it? No? Never? please be quit and listen carefrrlly. You
know, Batara Kala is anevil
giant. He alwayskilled peoplq
especially children.His hire
was madefrom fire.
Everybody was frightenedof
him.
one day Batara Guru, the chief
ofGod
invited alr the Gods and Goddesses todrink
secret waterin
paradise. The water was calledrirta
Amertasari.It
means"The
waterof immortality". you know
why? Because anyone drinksthis
water,he or she
will live
forever. He or shewill
never die.You know what? Batara Kala was not
invited
because he wasevil. Therl
secretly, heflow
into paradise andstole someof
the water. Batara Surya, the Godol Sun and Batari Chandria, the
Goddessol Moon knew what he
did.Immediately, both of them
reportedto
BataraVishnu, the
keeperGod of
the uuverse.Then Batara
Vishnu took his fatal
weapon, Cakra and shotit at
BataraKala. While
Batara Kala wasdrinking
the water, the Cakrahit him
on the neck.Batara
Kala's
body was separated from the head at once. But
since he had drunkthe
secret water,his
head wasalive.
He wasvery furios with
Batara Surya and Batari Chandra and swore to take revenge on them.He
chasedBatara
Suryaand Batari
Chandra, chaughthem both
and swallowed them up. Fortunately, Batara Surya and Batari Chandra could escapefrom
BataraKala's
throat because he no longer had a body. So, Batari Chandra and Batara Surya were safe everytime Batara Kala swallowed them up.That's why
when thereis
solar eclipseor
lunar eclipse, Javanese peoplebelieve that
bataraKala I swallowing Batara Surya or Batari
Chandra.It's
interesting.
