RESEARCH METHOD

A. Research Design

This research used a descriptive quantitative research in this study. It is with the objective study that would like to indentify students‟ perceptions about english outdoor learning to enhance their speaking skill.

B. Research Variable and indicator

The indicator of this research was the students perceptions toward the effectiveness of English outdoor learning techniques in enhancing students speaking skill

C. Research Subject

The subject of this research were 21 students from the seventh semester at English Education Departement from Makassar Muhammadiyah of University in academic 2019/2020.

D. Research instrument

The instrument of this study, the researcher used questionnaire to collect the data. The questionnaire consisted of 15 number related to know the students‟ perceptions toward the effectiveness of English outdoor learning in enhancing students speaking skill.

E. Data collection

For data collection, the researcher used questionnaire in this study. The researcher gave the questionnaire to the students consisting of 15 open-ended questions, then the researcher gave 35 minutes to the students to answer the questions based on their own thinking.

F. Techniques of data analysis

There were some procedures to gather the data analysis that used questionnaire

The researcher collected the data to be analyzed then classify the answer by the questionnaire. The researcher used some formulates arrange the study in questionnaire.instrument research was used likert scale to make in the form of checklist. The checklist was gave on the available column and the statement is in accordance with the alternative subject state the answer use is strongly Agree (SA), Agree (A), Undecided (U), Disagree (D), and Strongly Disagree (SD)

After the researcher administrated the fulfillment the questionnaire, the researcher counted the total answer for each answer category which existed in each aspect. Then, the data obtain from the questionnaires analysis by using the percentage technique.

27 CHAPTER IV

FINDING AND DISCUSSION

This chapter presents the findings of the research and discussion about the findings. They are follows :

A. Findings

In this chapter, the results of the study are presented. The chapter was divided into two main sections. The first section presents the data of followed by findings on each statement aspects to answer research questions about the students‟ perceptions toward the effectiveness of English outdoor learning in enhancing students speaking skill, focusing on the techniques used by the lecturers.

The table represents that there were 21 students responds, there were 7 students or 33,3 % from the total number of the students whose strongly agree with the statement. The other 12 students or 57,1 % from the total number of the

students agree with the statement. And non there were 2 or 9,5 % from the total number whose undecided with the statement and none of the student‟s whose answered disagree and strongly disagree with the statement. In brief, The students‟ perceived that English outdoor learning succeeded to support teaching process

The given table showed that there were 21student‟s responds, there were 11 students or 52,3 % from the total number of the student‟s whose strongly agree with the statement. The other 10 students or 47,6 % from the total number of the students agree with the statement. Meanwhile, there were None of the student‟s whose answered undecided, disagree and strongly disagree with the statement.

The result show that mostly students‟ perceived that the applied of English outdoor learning that gave a new knowledge to students.

The presented table shows that there were 21 students responds, there were 16 students or 76,1% from the total number of the students whose strongly agree with the statement. The other 5 students or 23,8 % from the total number of the students agree with the statement. None student‟s answered undecided, disagree and strongly disagree with the statement. In brief, the used of this techniques was interesting and motivating.

The other 11 students or 52,3 % from the total number of the students agree with the statement. None of the student‟s whose answered Undicated, disagree and strongly disagree with the statement. Overall English outdoor learning made the students to be active.

Meanwhile, there were 4 students or 19,0% from the total number of the students answered undecided with the statement.17 students or 80,9 % answered disagree with the statement. And none students whose answered strongly disagree with the statement. The result showed of student‟s perceived that the applied of English outdoor learning was great.

Meanwhile, there were 17 students or 80,9% from the total number of the students answered disagree with the statement. 2 students or 9,52% answered strongly disagree with the statement. The student‟s perceived that outomatically English outdoor learning gave a nice experience to students.

None of the student‟s whose answered undecided, disagree and strongly disagree with the statement. In brief the students‟ perceived that they were more confidence to be a good public speaker.

It means that students‟ perceived that English outdoor learning was effective for the students.

In brief, outdoor learning techniques was easy to students opened up their horizons in the learning.

The students‟ perceived that outdoor learning make their idea to easy developed in learning process.

Based on the table showed that there were 21 students responds, there were 12 students or 57,1% from the total number of the students whose strongly agree with the statement. The other 6 students or 28,5% from the total number of the students agree with the statement. Meanwhile, there were 1 students or 4,7%

from the total number of the students answered undecided with the statement.

There were 2 students or 9,5% answered disagree with the statement and none student‟s answered strongly disagree with the statement. The students‟ perceived that English outdoor learning was make enjoy the students to study.

The other 8 students or 38, 0% from the total number of the students agree with the statement. And None of the student‟s whose answered undicated, disagree, and strongly disagree with the statement. So the result showed that the students‟ perceived that English outdoor learning make them to easy adapt in learning.

B. Discussion

The discussion of the research detects to give the questionnaire the researcher collected the data to be analyed then classified the answer by the questionnaire. The scale used in this research is Likert scale. Likert Scale use to measure attitudes, opinions, and perceptions of a person or group of people about social phenomena. Likert scale a graduation from very positive to very negative (Sugiono, 012)

The data from questionnaire showed that mostly students‟ perceived that the applied of English outdoor learning make the students enjoy to learn because they are felt an adventure in study.The previous finding research showed that, Tony Rea (2008) his journal Alternative visions of learning: children‟s learning experiences in the outdoors authority states that based on research undertaken in a locally owned residential outdoor education centre, which combines outdoor adventure education with field study. And the students more felt to enjoyed learn in outdoor because their knowledge can be improved in terms of speech.

Furthermore, The students argued that English outdoor learning was effective for the students to increase their vocabulary. In line with Indra Munawar (2009) his journal about title “Outdoor Activites” :his states that outdoor activities is the outclass activities or free nature that has exited and learn about god‟s creation that served on game, e-p-observation, simulation, discussion, and adventure as learning method”states that by using outdoor learning technique the students can see lot of things around them. It is effective and help the students get easier in learning vocabulary mastery. So learning using by outdoor technique

is expected to increase student‟s vocabulary mastery. With a direct view the situation or direct view of things in outside.

In summary, the applied English outdoor learning to enhance students speaking skill at Seventh Semester Students of English Departement Makassar Muhammadiyah of University that success to support their speaking skill and make the students more chritism and confidence in the class and also improving their their communicating in speaking class. And it is important that the applied of English outdoor learning would make their idea to be developed to improve their speaking skill. And the applied of English outdoor learning can be a source study that effective to students‟ motivation in speaking skill.

40 CHAPTER V

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

This chapter consists of two parts. The first presents some conclusions based on the data analysis. The second part present some suggestions based on the findings and conclusion of this research.

A. Conclusion

Based on the findings and discussion, it can be concluded that the respondents of this research gave their positive perception toward the effectiveness of English outdoor learning in enhancing students speaking skill.

Furthermore, the showed from the finding of English outdoor learning were succeded to support their speaking skill, made the students to be motivate, gave a nice experience, more help them confidence and understand, gave a new knowledge, opened up horisons and solved problem for students and enrich their vocabulary.

B. Suggestion

Based on the result of the data analysis and conclusion, the researcher suggests as follows:

1. For the Lecturer

The lecturers should decrease problem appears in implementing of English outdoor learning in order to improve its benefits to improve students‟ language skill in term of practicing speaking and their performances in speaking skill.

2. For the Students

The implementation of English outdoor learning can be useful for the students to improve their speaking skill.

3. For the researcher

The application of English outdoor learning should not only be used in speaking subject, but also be implemented toward others subjects of English Education Department to improve their English competence.

Therefore, this research can be a reference for the next researcher to develop this method later.
