Most of you will be living in the temporary housing provided by the government and the state. Very early in the school year, first-year men try to paint their class year on the barn on the hill beyond University Street. Although it was held in May last year, it will next be held in early autumn.
Last year the Interfrateruity ball was held late in the fall, and the Intersorority ball after rush, in the spring.

THE WOMEN'S STUDENT ASSOCIATION is the body that makes and enforces the rules for all women on campus. ADl\HNISTRA TION RULES When a freshman woman enters the university and the women's student government, she has a chance to try out her newfound freedom and responsibility within the established framework of university standards. Announcement of all scheduled events will be made in the social calendar section of FIAT.
The Women's Student Government has established the following rules and regulations in an effort to adjust its members to accept personal responsibility. This Association expects its members to be guided by the underlying principles of healthy social relationships in all situations, whether or not these fall under the following clear statements. Because this organization is self-governing and sets its own rules and regulations, it expects its members to follow the honor system in adhering to them.
ARTICLE I
All other women who do not have an index of 1.2 or better should observe from Sunday to Thursday. During holidays, women must be at home until the house closes, from Sunday to Thursday until 12:00, and on Friday and Saturday until 1:00 p.m. Pensioners nmy have one 2 o'clock weekend permit per month, granted at the discretion of the House Manager; freshmen may be allowed one weekend at 1pm per month, which is also granted at the discretion of the Head of House.
A woman attending the second show must produce on her return to her lodgings a time-sheet signed by W. No time-sheet will be issued to a woman who enters the cinema after its closing time. Any woman wishing to work outside her residence after her closing hours in the School of Ceramics, Allen Laboratory, or South Hall, must report to her representative upon her return.
For such work, the approval of the head of the house must also be obtained before (that student leaves the house or dormitory. Young women must study and pass an examination at Alma Mater and W.

CLUBS and SOCIETIES
Cercle Francais is an organization made up of students of the French language, created with the aim of achieving better skills in speaking this language. All those interested in the discussion of current political problems are welcome to attend the meetings and participate. Much of the success of the University dramatic season is due to the cooperation of the members of the Footlight Club.
The club offers students the opportunity to gain a more extensive knowledge of German through conversations, games, lectures and readings. The LaUn Club is an organization that offers students interested in Latin a further opportunity to learn the customs of the Roman people and integrate them into modern life. The club consists of athletes who have been duly elected to a certificate in varsity athletics and who have additionally been awarded the Varsity “A” jerseys for this achievement.
The club's main purpose is to promote athletics in Alfred and create principles of true sportsmanship. Ski slopes, a ski lift and a skating pond are some of the club's achievements so far. The club was fortunate to have some interesting talks by students and members of the faculty last year.
HONORARY SOCIETIES
The Varsity "A" Club is harried in the interest of bigger and better athletics and the promotion of true fellowship among athletes. The New York Alpha Chapter of Theta Alpha Phi, the national honorary dramatic fraternity, is located at Alfred University. Soph Plays" in the fall in an effort to bring out outstanding material among the underclassmen on campus.
Phi Sigma Gamma, the women's honorary fraternity of Alfred, was founded in 1925 to provide an incentive for achievement among the University's female students. Each year, those women who best expressed exceptional loyalty to the university, personal character. The National Honorary Journalism Fraternity consists of a group of students who have demonstrated an interest in an improved type of journalism through their continued efforts to raise the level of college publications on campus.
The National Social Sciences Honor Society was brought to campus for awakening in 1927. Membership includes a limited number of faculty and senior class members, who must have an average index of 2.0 and 20 hours of study in the social sciences. The Spiked Shoe is a chapter of the National Collegiate Society of Spiked Shoe, which focuses on the promotion of track and field and cross country.
RELIGIOUS LIFE
The association promotes interclass and intramural track meets, generates interest in sub-collegiate institutions, and furthers the objectives of track and cross country by serving as officials for college and high school meets.

The incomplete can be removed the following semester by compensating two hours for each absence. Library opening hours - The library is open for normal work from 8.30. 1) Most books can be withdrawn for a period of two weeks with the right to renewal. Recent popular books can be withdrawn for only one week without the privilege of renewal.
Such books should be returned to the desk as soon as you finish them, as others may be waiting for them. Students who call the physician's office without a written order will be charged the regular rate, except in emergencies as determined by the physician. Students living in private homes must notify the hospital when calling 111 and 'before calling the doctor, except in an emergency.
Students in their homes must notify Nursing and the nurse will visit them before an excuse is granted. All excuses for illness will be issued at the Infirmary and must be filed with the registrar's office no later than one week after the end of the period of absence. After admission to Nursing, students are not allowed visitors for the first 24 hours without special permission.

Every member of the Association has the right to appeal to the Senate for the review of any regulation, law or decision of any other student organization. All rules made or approved by the Senate shall be subject to review by the Alfred University administration and, if necessary. All student organizations shall submit a copy of their constitution to the Senate for filing within thirty school days after the adoption of this constitution.
All constitutional amendments shall be reported to the Senate within two weeks of their approval. All by-laws and rules affecting the daily life of every member of the Association shall be reported to the Senate. The Senate shall represent the Association or any of its members in dealings with the Administration, Faculty, Alumni, Trustees and other non-student bodies.
It is the duty of the Senate to keep the Administration and Faculty informed of the activities, feelings and sentiments of students on matters of mutual interest and concern. It is the duty of the Senate to keep itself informed of all University policies and plans affecting students and to disseminate such knowledge to the members of the Association. It will be the duty of the Senate to cooperate with the administration in keeping the campus life of Alfred on a high moral and intellectual level.

No person shall serve two consecutive terms on this committee, but shall be eligible for re-election after the expiration of one year. This committee shall meet with the Senate when deemed advisable and shall be available for hearing and discussion at other convenient times. This committee shall also act as auditor of all financial transactions of the Senate and other student groups.

The twelve members include at least one staff member and two students from each of the colleges and the Institute. During the first election, half of the board members are elected for a period of one year. The Board of Directors meets at least once a month and as often as it deems necessary.
Any member who is absent more than twice in a row, except in cases of absences or excused absences, is expelled from the board. The Board of Directors shall have the power to remove any officer or board member who shows evidence of incapacity. The Board of Directors will serve as a nominating committee and two weeks before the election will present a panel of candidates.
If at any time there is a vacancy on the board, the Board of Directors will fill the vacancy. The outgoing members of the Board and the new Board of Directors will carry out the nomination. The Chairman is a student and will have served one year on the Council after the first year before being eligible for election.
