So, the researcher takes the title "The use of cartoon media in teaching speaking to the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo in academic year. What are the benefits of cartoon media in teaching speaking to the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo .

Data Source

The researcher takes the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo in the academic year 2014/2015 as the sample.

Technique of Data Collection

The interview is conducted with the aim of obtaining more information about the process of using cartoon media in teaching speaking for students of the eighth grade of SMPN 5 Ponorogo. Because the researcher wants to know about the process of using cartoon media in teaching speaking to eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo.

Data Analysis

To collect data in documentation technique, the researcher can take information from notes, books, transcripts, newspapers, etc.20 In this case, the documentation used is cartoon media. The data reduction allows the researcher to concentrate on the data that will be analysed.

Checking of Data Validity

It means that the researcher compares and checks the validity of the information collected through different time and means in the qualitative method. It can be achieved by: (a) correlation between observation result and interview result, (b) correlation between public opinion and individual opinion, (c) correlation between public opinion about the research situation and long-term opinion, ( d) corporation between the result of the interview and the attachment of the document.

Research Procedure

Cartoon media as a teaching tool is a part of teaching resources which consists of material instruction which can be seen and heard. Gag cartoon is only funny picture without meaning a joke or explain some problems and actual incident. The students make notes in the form of small notes, which consist of the content of the cartoon.

In this case, the researcher tries to explain the benefits of using cartoon media in the classroom. Cartooning is a comfortable, familiar medium for contemporary students that can keep students interested in the theories and concepts under discussion. Based on these statements, it can be concluded that cartoon media is suitable in teaching speaking.

Due to the use of cartoon media, students see and hear the content of the story.

Previous Study

Based on the results of the study, we can conclude that the use of film media is effective for improving students' speaking skills. The observation is carried out by observing the use of cartoon media in speech lessons for eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo in the academic year 2014/2015. The interview is conducted with the English teacher of eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo. On April 2, 1965, the Ministry of Education and Culture issued Decree No.: 58/DIRPT/BI/1965 on the completion of Sekolah Keradjinan I Ponorogo to State Technological School I Ponorogo.

So SMPN 5 Ponorogo was changed to be SLTP 5 Ponorogo which used skills program and in 2000 it was named as SLTP Plus. In early 2010, precisely on November 10, 2010, SMPN 5 Ponorogo increased its status to become SSN (National Standard School) or. The situation of students in SMPN 5 Ponorogo in the academic year 2014/2015 as a whole reaches 867 students consisting of 285 students class VII, 314 students class VIII and 268 students class IX.

Data Description

The Use of Cartoon Media in Teaching Speaking at the Eighth Grade Students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo

In pre-teaching, the teacher motivated the students to learn English by conveying the purpose of the learning. The teacher asked questions to the students to practice speaking and know the students' understanding of the given material. When the students watched the cartoon, the teacher asked the students to write the moral value in the monologue and new vocabulary and also the content of the cartoon.

But the teacher tries to encourage the students so that they can catch the point of the materials through the cartoon.69. This means that the teacher wants to know the students' understanding of the narrative text. While the students in the fourth meeting still use cartoon media in speaking lessons.

Here the teacher has some roles to guide the students during the learning process.

The benefits of cartoon media in teaching speaking to the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo. Based on the result of interview with the English teacher and the result of observation with the eighth grade students of SMPN 5, Ponorogo showed above that the use of cartoon media in the teaching of speaking has the important roles. There were some benefits of teaching speaking using cartoon media to eighth grade "A" students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo.

The media makes the teacher to make the goals of the study easier."77 From the above statements it can be known that the benefits for the teacher from the use of cartoon media in teaching speaking to the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo in the academic year . 2014/2015 students felt pleasant and interesting in the learning process. Furthermore, from the observation conducted by the researcher on the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo, it could be known that the students enjoyed learning English. Based on all the above data, the researcher concluded that the benefits of using cartoon media in teaching speaking to the eighth grade students of SMPN 5 Ponorogo in the academic year 2014/2015 that they could be interested in this lesson of helped them develop their language skills. especially in speech.

As the researcher said before, the teacher used cartoon media to teach speaking to deliver the material. Teaching speaking using cartoon media for eighth grade students in SMPN 5 Ponorogo is started by 1) the teacher goes in. The main activity of teaching speaking using cartoon media for eighth grade students in SMPN 5 Ponorogo is that the teacher provides material "narrative text ".

After they finished discussing the material, the teacher asked the students to identify the narrative text through cartoon media that. After the teacher explained the grammar, she asked the students to tell a story about the cartoon they watched. The next activity is for the teacher to provide evaluation and feedback of the students' performance.

The last time, the teacher gave a conclusion about the lesson and motivated the students.

The use of cartoon media was not the only way to improve students' speaking skills. Cartoon media was one of the interesting English media which helps the students to improve their skills especially speaking skills. By using cartoon media, students could also practice listening, practice listening to expressions through cartoons.

When the teacher taught with cartoon media, the students did not respond well because the cartoon played by the teacher was less interesting. Because of these problems, the teacher had to prepare the interesting cartoon so that the students had ideas to practice speaking and enjoy it in the classroom. By considering the above improvements, the researcher concluded that cartoon media could improve the students' speaking skills.

The teacher had to motivate and enthuse the students in learning English, especially in teaching speaking.

Conclusion

The students can practice listening and writing to cartoons and they were interested in watching cartoons and have ideas as material to tell the story.
