MULYADI, 2014. The English Department, Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, University of Muhammadiyah Makassar. Thesis: Using Short Movie as Media to Improve the Students’Ability in Writing Descriptive Paragraph at the First Year Students of SMP Askari Pallangga, Gowa. (A Classroom Action Research). Guided by Bahrun Amin and Hasnawati Latief, under supervisor of completion my thesis.

The objective of this research was to find out the significant The improvement of students’ ability in writing review text to focus on language use by applying short movie at the first year of SMP Askari Pallangga, Gowa and to find out the significant The improvement of students’ ability in writing review text to focus on content by applying short movie at the first year of SMP Askari Pallangga, Gowa.

The researcher used Classroom Action Research (CAR). The researcher conducted two cycles, where each cycle consisted of four meetings. It employed written test as instrument. The number subjects of the research were 20 students in class VII.A. The researcher took data real from the school to know the students’ability in writing descriptive paragraph.

The results of the student's written test in cycle 1 and cycle 2 had significantly different scores. There was a better increase at the end of action of second cycle. The research findings indicated that use of Short Movie could increase the students’ability in writing descriptive paragraph and after evaluation in cycles I and II, the mean scores increased from 53.85% in the first cycle to 77.42% in the second one which was categorized average. The students’ ability in writing descriptive paragraph at the first year students in class VII.A. of SMP Askari Pallangga, Gowa was in a low level before the test in the first cycle and the position of students’ability in writing descriptive paragraph moved into a high level after the test in the second cycle. From these findings, the researcher made conclusion that use of Short Movie was one of effective and interesting writing teaching strategy that could improve the student’s writing ability in case of grammar and content at the class of VII.A. of SMP Askari Pallanga, Gowa.
