Judul Skripsi: Improving Students' Reading Comprehension by Using Literary Work (A Pre-Experiment Study on the Eleventh of SMA Negeri 1 Gowa). This study aimed to find out students' literal reading comprehension by using literary work as a medium. The researcher used a pre-experimental design, using pre- and post-test comparisons to find out whether the literary work Media used enhanced the students' reading skills. The population of the study consisted of all eleventh grade students. from SMA Negeri 1 Gowa which consisted of three classes.

The sample was class XI Bahasa which consisted of 28 students using cluster sampling technique. To analyze the score of the students' performance on the pre- and post-test, the researcher used t-test analysis. The results of the data showed that there was a significant difference between the pre-test and the post-test.

It means that there was a significant difference between the students' reading skill before and after using the literary work as a medium, or it can be argued that the use of the literary work as a medium was effective in improving the students. Improving students' reading comprehension through literary work in terms of main idea and supporting details.

Reading comprehension can be improved with a variety of materials, one of which is certainly literary work. Using the substance of a literary work allows bridging the space between the knowledge of elegance and the students' ability to panic within the actual global. Combining literary learning materials in exceptional phrases enables students to achieve effective communicative competence in reading comprehension.

From the above considerations, the researcher decides to investigate the improvement of students' reading comprehension through the use of literary works. Based on the background explained by the researcher, the researcher formulated the problem statement as follows: "Does the implementation of literary work improve students' reading comprehension?". Readers are welcome to use this research because information about a literary work can improve reading comprehension.

The researcher can inquire which literary work improves students' reading comprehension. The limitation of this study is that we find that the implementation of literary work improves students' literal reading comprehension.

According to Barnes and Burgdorf in Agus Rahmat (2014:12) that the purpose of identifying the main idea is to help students find the thesis or main idea of ​​the paragraph. Burn in Kamran (2011:13) stated that the main idea is the most important piece of information that authors want you to know about the concept of the paragraph. The main idea of ​​the entire selection can be determined by examining the main ideas of individual paragraphs and deciding what topic they relate to.

According to Baiz in Sahriana (2010:12), the main idea is one of the basic skills that a reader must develop in order to understand and enjoy the essay. The main idea can therefore be stated at the beginning, in the middle or at the end of the paragraph. The last two sentences develop the main idea by giving specific details of the relevant research.

Nurmi (2012:28) defined that supporting details are a paragraph that contains facts, specific examples, statements that lead us to a full understanding of the main idea. This literary work is the result of the creative work of its presentation including many things.

Conceptual Framework

THE METHOD OF THE RESEARCH

Population and Sample

The population of this study consists of the students of SMA Negeri 1 Gowa, which had a population of all eleventh grade students. The total number of eleventh grade students was 410 and they constituted the population in this study. The sampling technique was chosen by comparing a number of aspects, so they are; the first, the researcher knows the students' circumstances well and the second is based on observation steps.

Next, the researcher gave the students a narrative text and the students were given a few minutes to read it. In general, the teaching and learning process is the same as in the first meeting to the last meeting. The teacher explained the background information, share the lesson video, the importance of the lesson, and the students expressed their knowledge of the material discussed, and then the teacher tells the students the purpose of the lesson, what should be achieved.

After the treatment, the researcher does the same thing as in the pre-test to measure the reading comprehension of the students.

Hypothesis

The application of literary work is not effective in improving students' literal reading comprehension. This research finds that students' reading comprehension using literary work showed improvement in students' reading comprehension in the teaching and learning process, especially in students' literal reading comprehension in terms of main idea and supporting details. . Improvement was supported by students' pre-test and post-test mean score and percentage score.

Improving students' reading comprehension by using a literary work as a learning medium in terms of main idea and supporting details. Initially, student pretest scores were low, especially for the main idea and supporting details. Table 4.1 shows that the mean score of students' verbatim reading comprehension for main idea comprehension in the pretest was very poor at 3.55, and students' verbatim reading comprehension for supporting details was 4.18.

The improved average score of the students after the exam was higher than the average score before the exam from 3.55 to 6.84. Students' achievement in literal understanding of the main idea improved by 92%, and their score on supporting details improved from 4.18 on the mean pre-test to 7.23 on the mean post-test. After calculating the mean score between the pretest and the posttest, the researcher found that the improvement of students' achievement in literal reading comprehension in terms of supporting details became 72%.

The use of literary works is one of the creative media in the teaching and learning process to improve students' reading comprehension in literal reading comprehension among the eleventh grade students of SMA Negeri 1 Gowa.
