Candlelight Vigil for World AIDS Day

Please join the Wellness Center for a Candlelight Vigil in honor of World AIDS Day. World AIDS Day is held on the 1st of December each year and is an opportunity for people worldwide to unite in the fight against HIV, show their support for people living with HIV and to commemorate people who have died.

The vigil will entail a short prayer by Laurie DeMott, a walk through campus holding red LED candles, followed by hot cocoa and doughnuts back at Powell.

Date: Dec. 1 Time: 6 P.M.

Location: In front of Powell Campus Center

2016 Japan Trip Informational Meeting

Are you interested in experiencing the business, art, history, and cultural aspects of Japan?

There will be an informational meeting for the B Block course and trip component of this educational and fun perspective of Japan. The trip part of the course will take place May 16 - 27, 2016.

If you are interested in this course and the trip to Japan, please plan to join Dr. Bruce Rosenthal on Tuesday, Dec. 2 at 5:30 P.M. In Olin 301.

The Bergren Forum sponsored by the Division of Human Studies, College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, and the Provost's Office will be meeting at 12:10 P.M. on Thursday, Dec. 3 in the Nevins Theater,

Bring a brown bag lunch; coffee and tea will be provided.

Speaker: Karen Donnellan

Topic: "The Circle Extends to the Tips of the Fingers"

Karen Donnellan, assistant professor of Sculpture and Dimensional Studies, will discuss her art practice integrating sound, glass, and the circle motif as it relates to Zen Buddhism and energy healing.

Informal Dance Showing

Come see what we have been working on in the dance department this semester. Two nights of performances and choreography -Thursday and Friday, Dec. 3 and 4 at 7:30 p.m., C.D. Smith Theatre.

Each night of the informal dance showing is a different program.

There will be solos created by the Composition 1 students; dances performed by Fundamentals of Dance and Modern 1; and class material generated from Ann Carlson's residency.

Independent choreographers - Julia Duncan, Michael Downey, Kira Oglesby, and Danielle Heyder - will also perform new works as well as faculty members Colleen Culley and D. Chase Angier.

Its free, its fun, and its inspiring!

CEMS 484 (Engineering Operations) Poster Session

Three teams of CEMS 484 students will hold a final poster session in Binns-Merrill Hall 106 on Friday, Dec. 4 from 3:20 - 4:10 pm. The three teams are designing and developing the following:

-Novel Boomerang

-Comfortable Chair for Classroom -Snow-free Dry Outdoor Seating

Refreshments will be available. This event is open to the public.

Stargazing Friday Night Hike

Meet at 7 p.m. on the first floor of Powell Campus Center (near the mailroom) for a constellation walk then end up at AU's Stull Observatory for a bonfire and s'mores made with Milkyway and Galaxy candy bars!

Nominations Sought for 2016 Spirit of Service Awards

Spirit of Service Awards recognize those in the greater Alfred community who demonstrate a strong commitment to serving others. These awards honor those who are actively living out the principles that Martin Luther King, Jr. stood for, including equality, social justice, community, and service.

Eligible nominees include students, faculty, and staff at Alfred State and Alfred University as well as community members.

Submit a nomination to celebrate someone you know who is engaged in the community. The nomination deadline is Wednesday, Jan. 20. Nominees and award winners will be honored at the Celebration of Service at 5 P.M. Thursday, Jan. 28 at the Alfred Village Hall.

Umoja is selling ALF(RED) t-shirts in support of HIV and AIDS awareness, education, treatment, and prevention. All proceeds from shirt sales will be donated to a local service provider.

You can order your t-shirt online using a debit or credit card by following the attached link. It will take you to the Alfred University eStore, once you are there click Student Activities and you will see the option to order a shirt.

You can also purchase a shirt with cash by visiting the Institute for Cultural Unity on the 1st floor of the Powell Campus Center (Monday - Friday between 9:15 a.m. - 5:15 p.m.).
