Nature Rules: Outdoor Sculpture Exhibition
The work of Alfred Sculpture Professor Coral Lambert is featured in "Nature Rules," an exhibition of outdoor sculpture curated by the Brooklyn Waterfront Artists Coalition on Governors Island, located between Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Governors Island is a great place if you are visiting the city to escape for a stroll and have some ice cream. So if you are down in New York City stop on over and check out the art.
The show will be ongoing through October.

Strategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS) Deadline:
Friday, Sept. 24, 2010
Strategic Opportunity Stipends (SOS) provides grants designed to help individual artists of all disciplines take advantage of specific, unique opportunities that will significantly benefit their work or career. These are $200-$1,500 grants for forthcoming opportunities (not necessarily projects) that are distinct from an artist's ongoing work.
Please note that you may now request a maximum amount of up to $1,500 for your SOS opportunity.
There will also be a total of two SOS deadlines this year.
The next deadline is Sept. 24, 2010. This deadline is for opportunities occurring between November 1, 2010 and May 31, 2011.
To apply:
1. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and a full-time resident for the past year of one of the participating New York State counties (see step 3 or page 6 of the application. Alfred Community Dessert Social
Alfred Dessert Social Welcomes New and Old, Commuters and Residents
The Alfred Alive committee is sponsoring a dessert social and ping pong regatta for the Alfred community on Monday, Aug. 16th at 7 p.m. at the Village Bandstand.
The event is intended to welcome new residents and those commuting into our town while also serving to connect all residents with the community. Participants are invited to bring a dessert-to-pass but it is certainly not required as sweets are usually in abundance.
Local businesses and organizations are invited to create informational tables at no cost (just bring your own table) to share their opportunities and services with our community members.
The Ping Pong Regatta will award gift certificates to the person whose ping pong ball navigates through the mighty Kanakadea Creek the fastest. Free Ping Pong Balls can be picked up at participating businesses.
Questions can be directed to Mandy Burns at Alfred Alive [email protected] . Submitted by: Deborah Clark
