Open Enrollment for Non-Statutory and University Wide Benefits
Open enrollment for all non-statutory health benefits and for all University-wide benefits (Life, Accident and Vision) will be held from Monday, Oct. 19, 2015 through Friday, Nov. 6, 2015 for changes to take effect Jan. 1, 2016.
In order to comply with the Affordable Care Act you must complete an enrollment form or provide an affirmative waiver, providing a reason, if you do not wish to participate in a health plan. We will not be able to automatically enroll you in your current plan if you do not fill out and return a form and you may be subject to tax penalties for failure to maintain insurance.
All flexible spending accounts must also be re-enrolled to continue that benefit for 2016.
Enrollment Materials will be emailed to all eligible employees with an AU email address or will receive a hard copy for those without University email as soon as the materials are available.
Please do not hesitate to contact the Human Resources Office if you have any questions or if we can assist in any manner.

Pool Closing for Mid-Term Break
The pool will be closed for mid-term break following the 11:45 a.m.-1:15 p.m .swim on Friday, Oct. 9 and will resume regular hours on Wednesday, Oct. 14.

2016-17 Tuition Exchange Application Deadline is Oct. 15, 2015
Faculty and Staff - the Tuition Exchange Export Application deadline is Thursday, Oct. 15, 2015. If your child is planning to begin college (or transfer to another college) next year, 2016-17, you may wish to explore the schools participating in the Tuition Exchange (TE) Program. RENEWAL TE Export
applications are also subject to the deadline of 10/15/15.
Please read the attached TE Information Memo for application procedures and details on the program.
Two application forms are required; specifically, the AU TE Export Application and the AU Human Resource (HR) TR/TE form (links and attachments, herewith).

Course/Travel Opportunity to Italy, Germany Information Session
For students and faculty who may be interested in spring courses including a 13-day visit to Italy and Germany there will be an information session:
When: Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 5:30 P.M.
Where: Kanakadea Hall Rm 105
The trip, from May 30 to June 11, 2016, is a short course, part of two separate courses to be offered next semester. The courses: a History of Fascism (2 credits) to be taught by Prof. Chris Churchill, and a History of World War II (2 credits) taught by Prof. Gary Ostrower.
The trip will include visits to Rome, Florence, Bologna, and Munich. It will also include visits to Regensberg, Berchtesgaden (site of Hitler's mountain headquarters), and Dachau and Flossenberg concentration camps.
Students and faculty can travel even if they do not register for the course(s).

Please come and enjoy a genuine first for Alfred: the music, dance, and ceremony of the Mevlevi Order whirling dervishes from Konya, Turkey.
They will share their culture with us on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. in the Miller Performing Arts Center, thanks to the support of the Division of Performing Arts.
Free and open to the public.

Our area has a multitude of homes, dating from simple pioneer lodgings to elegant European stylings.
Craig will present this architectural identification program tracing the history of the many styles of homes in our area.
Homework: As you travel around our community, pay attention to the wide variety of housing in the area.
This library-sponsored lecture is free and open to the general public.

Diabetes Prevention Program Cuba Cultural Center

Ardent Solutions, in conjunction with the Cuba Cultural Center is sponsoring a Diabetes Prevention Program for anyone 18 years of age or older, at-risk or diagnosed with pre-diabetes.
The free program will begin Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015. The sessions will run from 6-7 p.m. and continue for 16 weeks, on Tuesday's through Feb. 16, 2016, at the Cuba Cultural Center, 38 E. Main St., Cuba.

Chi Peng and Yao Lu Visiting Artist Lectures Two Contemporary Chinese Digital Print/Photographers Date: Tuesday, Oct. 6

Sponsored by: Division of Expanded Media, The Institute for Electronic Arts, and The Fosdick Nelson Gallery
Two of China's most important contemporary digital print/photographers, Chi Peng and Yao Lu, will be visiting the Institute for Electronic Arts at the School of Art and Design over the week of Oct. 5.
International exhibiting artist Chi Peng's work is currently part of Typology/Morphology exhibit that is on display in the Fosdick Nelson Gallery. Professor Yao Lu is the Chair of the Department of
Photography at the Central Academy of Art in Beijing and is regarded as one of the most important photographers in China today.
Support for the IEA has come from the School of Art and Design, donations from individuals, private industry and grants from foundations and government art funding agencies, including the New York State Council on the Arts, the National Endowment for the Arts, and the Rockefeller Foundation.

Sherlock Holmes Sampler - Basil Rathbone: 'The Hound of the Baskervilles' Monday, Oct. 5 at 6:45 p.m.

Join us for a series of three Sherlock Holmes films - all with different actors portraying the sleuth! The first will be Basil Rathbone in his first appearance as Holmes. Unexplained murders take place at a mysterious mansion on the moors in this film based closely to the novel by Arthur Conan Doyle. Other actors in this film include Nigel Bruce, Richard Greene, Wendy Barrie, and John Carradine.
We'll see Sherlock Holmes films starring Robert Downey Jr. and Benedict Cumberbatch later in October and early November. Join us for ALL of them!
This library-sponsored film is free and open to the general public.
