Previous Related Findings

Omissions, additions, distortions and misordering could be found in the summaries; the most common errors were malformation (19 errors), while the rarest were misordering (1 error). In her research, Lanteng (2014) analyzes the types of errors found in the summaries of Faculty of Arts graduates. Her research result shows that there are three types of errors: seven omission errors, five misinformation errors and two distortion errors.

After finding several studies on error analysis above, researcher can conclude that there are similarities and differences. The similarity is all collected grammatical errors, although Rifqi took it from midterm and final test writings, Iamsiu assigned students to write a specific topic first, Hourani brought English essay writings together to be examined, and Aperocho studied the argumentative essays. But the similarity does not apply to this research because the thesis abstract will be the primary analyzed object; the only one that counts as the same object is from Hidayati, who also observed the treatise's abstract.

Some Pertinent Ideas

Meanwhile, it is a mistake to deviate the students when they perform an exercise or talk about something. Some of the changed structures are removing necessary articles and adding unnecessary ones to a sentence. This section deals with the misunderstanding listeners and readers get from what speakers say or what writers write.

Day and Gastel (2012:53) gave a simple illustration for a summary that should be considered a miniature of the paper. This is a precis of the thesis (research) that is usually bound into the thesis immediately after the title page. Therefore, from several definitions above, it can be deduced that a summary is a text written at the end as the short summary, but it will be found to start reading the content of the paper.

It is widely known that the abstract is an important part in the scientific writing, which realizes the information of the whole writing. Because of it, a researcher should write the research result in an abstract way. Paltridge and Starfield provided the typical scope of the abstract with its many questions pertaining to the content of the abstract itself.

From the purposes we mentioned above, it is concluded that abstracts aim to summarize the paper to give the readers the idea, Paltridge and Starfield gave the typical purpose of the abstract with some questions related to the content of the abstract itself. To begin, here is the typical structure in a review of the study by Paltridge and Starfield; the purpose of the study; the reason for the study; Some background comments may be inserted, but readers are primarily interested in the particular piece of research or results.

The abstract writing is started with a new paragraph, and each paragraph is written with five characters from the margin to the left of the text. On the other hand, Crystal also gave his opinion that grammar is absolutely central to the study of language, in any of its dialects, standard, all contrasts of meaning or otherwise. Therefore, to write an abstract as one of the academic writings, it should be formal writing and in the third person. 2010:36) defined this element as how easy it is for the reader to understand the writing.

Discussions

The second question of this research was about the causes in the thesis summary in English department students. And translation was also one of the causes of the error, it happened because the student translated his first language sentence into the target language word for word. This cause of error was closely related to the earlier cause of first language interference error.

When student or someone tries to translate the first language into the target language, the first language will mix the target language in their translation. Omission was characterized by the absence of item that should appear in a correct form of utterance. This type of error usually occurs when the learner has already acquired few target language basics.

The lectures are also suggested to facilitate the students to improve their English, at least look at the students' English version of abstracts. Finally, the future researchers were recommended to explore more about research findings related to this problem. Moreover, the researcher expects that this result of study can inspire future researchers to do other research related to grammatical error analysis to enrich the existing studies.

Suggestions

For the lectures, the researcher expected them to provide information and perform more in the teaching and learning process, especially in drafting an abstract.
