The primary data of this research was taken from thirty summaries of students' undergraduate thesis of English Education Study Program in State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro in the year of 2014. The data was collected through observation and documentation. In this research, the author will focus on the analysis of grammatical structure of students' undergraduate thesis.

INTRODUCTION

Focus of Study

In order to get a good product of student writing, students need to enrich their identification of grammatical aspects in the writing process. In accordance with the above explanations, the writer focused the research on the analysis of the summary of the undergraduate thesis of the students of the English Education study program in STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in 2014.

This research could hopefully contribute to additional knowledge and awareness of the importance of mastering grammatical aspects when compiling summaries of scientific texts. The writer emphasized the practical benefit of this research as a reference of the common mistakes for the students to compile a good summary of scientific writing using the best grammatical aspect.

REVIEW OF THE LITERATURE

General Description

Because, it can be used to guide the researcher in the right direction by answering the question related to the topic area. Therefore, the researcher provides some supporting theories about the topic to simplify the understanding of the content of this research.

The Nature of Writing

Nowadays, in higher education, writing is the most dedicated, although it is considered a problematic skill for all writers. In determining the topic of the writing, writers must consider who the reader of the writing will be. In addition, reading a common book can make it easier for writers to find ideas for their writing.

Revising makes writers correct the writing product on the side of the reader who expects a perfect piece of writing17. The sentence is arranged so that the reader can easily understand the writers idea.

The Concept of Scientific Writing

In writing, there are different types of scientific writing, such as: scientific papers, research reports, scientific essays, and so on. Consistent with this, good scientific writing should be based on the ideas that the readers can easily understand. In addition, the writers must be able to compose the scholarly writing in the correct format and with proper guidance.

The title is the most important point of the scientific writing that must be read. It is the way the writers use when conducting their scholarly writing to steer the research in the right direction.

The Concept of Abstract

This section includes theories or opinions of some experts that the writers cite to reinforce the truth of the research. In addition, the abstract is a summary of the scientific writing written after conducting the research. Meanwhile, not all writers read the entire scientific writing but read only the abstract.

Finally, a good summary should be written in a good structure that contains purpose, method, result and conclusion of the research. Therefore, a researcher must write down the result of the research in the abstract.

The Concept of Error Analysis

In fact, learner errors made during language learning can be detected, evaluated, and classified to reveal part of the system at work through error analysis. They describe what the errors are, classify what types they are, and correct and evaluate the errors that need to be corrected. The progress and application of language learning can be easily identified by defining the success rate of the error analysis result.

Meanwhile, it is a mistake to deviate the students when they perform an exercise or talk about something. Misinformation errors can be characterized by using the wrong word form or structure.

Background Description and Role of the Researcher

It means that researchers act as the main instrument that they can work thoroughly in their research. They can change their search or their data when they find difficulty in working on their search. Eventually, they composed their abstract as best they could, which had less coherence and grammatical structure.

The writer wondered how readers can understand the content of the research if the summary is less grammatical. In conducting the research, although the writer would strive to ensure objectivity, biases were expected to shape and sharpen the writer's research in understanding and interpreting the data collected.

Data Source

Data Collection Technique

Because the scientific writing that was done was in the university thesis, the abstracts were taken from the students' university thesis. In much qualitative research, researchers collect data and spend considerable time in the natural environment gathering information.52 In this case, the writer collected data using steps that are applied in research techniques. In addition, the researcher may engage in roles that vary from non-participant to full participant.53 In this research, the writer conducted observation in the library and reviewed several abstracts of students' university theses.

During the research process, each researcher collects different documents to be the source of data. The data can be public documents, such as a newspaper or official report, or private documents, such as private diaries, e-mails or letters.54 Because of this explanation, the author immediately collected thirty summaries of the bachelor's thesis of students of the English Education Study Program of State Islamic College (STAIN) Jurai Siwo Metro in the year 2014.

Data Validity Procedures

This type of triangulation is used to collect data using different approaches so that the researcher gets more accurate data. In this research, the writer applied theoretical and methodological triangulation to collect and enrich the data.

Research Procedures

In this case, the writer had identified the research problem and specified it in the error of using grammatical aspects in the drafting of the abstract of the university thesis. In this step, the writer obtained summaries, books, journals and indexed publications on a topic. The writer chose which literature to include in the research and summarized the literature in a written report.

In this case, the main purpose of the author in this research was to discover how many kinds of common grammatical errors appear in the abstracts of undergraduate thesis of students of English Education Study Program of STAIN Jurai Siwo Metro in the year 2014. data was the accurate and recognized data so they could be analyzed well.

Data Analysis Technique

It was to ensure that all the data was complete so that the researcher could analyze and interpret the data. After having all the data, the writer reads it to get as much information as possible about the main point. It is used to generate a description of the environment or people, as well as categories or themes for analysis.

It was about how the description and theme would be represented in the qualitative descriptive. The final step of data analysis, author interpreted the result of the research after all the steps were completed.

DATA PRESENTATION

General Description of Research Data

Scientific writing is a piece of writing that provides information about a topic the writer has researched. While completing the research, they will report the result through scientific writing in an undergraduate thesis. In addition, the student's undergraduate thesis must be written in a well-structured way, as scientific writing needs good writing.

Undergraduate work that is involved in scientific writing requires important elements that students must write. In their scientific writing, they should summarize the most important points such as aims, materials and methods, discussions, results and conclusions.

Data Analysis

In this case, the author specifically analyzed the error phenomena in the students' abstract of their bachelor thesis. Then, in the second example, there was an error in the use of preposition (any positive). So, in the second example, there were two errors in the use of the verb (can stimulates and to find).

In the last example, the writer found the error in the use of conjunction (with). From the data analysis above, the author obtained the frequency of the errors commonly found in the abstracts.

Interpretation

Furthermore, the most grammatical errors found in the undergraduate thesis abstracts of the students of the Study Program of English Education at the State Islamic College of Jurai Siwo Metro (STAIN) were malformation errors with 213 items or 65%. Based on the result of this research, the writer realized that his research was positively compatible with the previous research from Semarang conducted by Haryo Laksono. On the one hand, the writer assumed that the result of Haryo's research was quiet in case he found errors in the nursing students' abstract.

On the other hand, the writer assumed a lot that he should not find many mistakes in the students' abstract in their university thesis. Ideally, English Education Study Program students' abstracts should not have grammatical errors because the students had intensively taken the English material, especially in terms of grammar.

Limitation

Accordingly, the limitation of this analysis focused on the types of grammatical errors, which included addition errors, omission errors, malformation errors, and misordering errors. Most graduate students from the English Education Study Program in the year 2015 lack English grammar. Students need to improve their grammatical mastery so that they can avoid the grammatical errors in their writing.

The institution should offer several programs to improve students' ability not only in understanding grammatical aspects, but also in drafting scientific writing. The writer hopes that in the future there will be students who want to do research on grammatical analysis in the abstract.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Suggestion

The lecturer should give a clear elaboration about the grammatical aspects in the lecture activity because there will be many grammatical aspects used in the writing.
