History
India is a federal country consisting of 28 states, six Union Territories, and the National Capital Territory of Delhi. Before independence in 1947, India was part of the United Kingdom. After a national struggle led by Mahatma Gandhi, India became independent and became the Dominion of India in 1947. The country has a diverse culture, including national sports such as hockey and cricket, as well as national symbols such as the tiger, peacock and lotus.
