UNDERSTANDING ON THE TEXT FIFTH SEMESTER COUNTING OF METRO STATE INSTITUTE FOR ISLAMIC STUDIES (IAIN). Therefore, this research focuses on why students find it difficult to understand the unclear meaning of the recount text in the fifth semester of the Metro State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) in the academic year 2016/2017. In conclusion, students find it very difficult to understand the ambiguous meaning of the renumbered text, especially the lexical ambiguities.

My almamat from the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of METRO My friends in Forum Lingkar Pena (FLP) all over Lampung. First of all, the writer would like to express my gratitude to Almighty God, Allah, for His blessing and wonderful bestowal in the completion of this undergraduate thesis titled “Analysis of Students' Difficulties in Ambiguuous Meaning on Recount Text at the Fifth Semester of the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro in academic year 2016/2017".

The focus of the study is in the form of examining difficulties in ambiguous meaning that often appear in the recount text in Metro's State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) in academic year 2016/2017. What are the student problems with the ambiguous meaning of the recount text in Metro State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) in academic year 2016/2017. Why do the students feel troubled by ambiguous meaning of the recount text in Metro State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) in academic year 2016/2017 in academic year 2016/2017.

Semanticist Geoffrey Leech points out that linguistic competence consists of a phonological representation, a syntactic representation, and a semantic representation for sentence analysis.2 The word semantics itself denotes a range of ideas -- from the popular to the highly technical. Based on the above result, the average percentage of students' difficulties in understanding the ambiguous meaning in the recount text began in .. question number 1 to 5 is 76% for lexical ambiguity and grammatical ambiguity.

Parts of a sentence is a set of terms to describe how people construct sentences from smaller pieces. A string with exactly one interpretation is unambiguous, one with no interpretation is anomalous, and one with multiple interpretations is ambiguous.5 It is concluded that ambiguity is one of those kinds of sense relations that have more than one meaning. There is more than one meaning, can mean: (1) John went to the edge of the river yesterday. 2) John went to the place to save or take his money.

Sometimes, because the sentence utters so quickly, people who hear it to doubt the purpose of the sentence uttered. To avoid ambiguity of this type, it is important to clarify the context of the sentence.10 Therefore, it is important to consider not only the structure of the sentence, but also the context of the sentence.

In this research, students' difficulties with the ambiguous meaning of the text were observed. Students of National Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Metro Total number of students of National Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Metro. The test involves repetition of the text, which must analyze the ambiguous meaning well.

The description of student's mistake in ambiguous meaning by the students of the fifth semester in the state Islamic Institute (IAIN) Metro. Based on the analysis above, the mistakes that mostly happened in student's problems in ambiguous meaning on retelling text. The total of common errors in ambiguous meaning by the students of the fifth semester in the State Islamic Institute (IAIN) Metro.

In addition, the researcher conducted an interview for the students by giving them ten questions related to ambiguous meaning. Ambiguous meaning is the meaning in a context not context from one sentence to another sentence. Ambiguous meaning is the meaning in a context that does not connect from one sentence to another sentence.

Referring to the result of the interview, the researcher got the student's problems in the ambiguous meaning of the narration text. Students said that ambiguous meaning is difficult because we have to analyze the whole sentence without mistakes. The conclusion of the data analysis describes that most of the students find it very difficult to understand the ambiguous meaning in the narrated text.

The average percentage of students' difficulties in understanding the ambiguous meaning in the recount text starting from question 1 to question number 5 is 76%. After conducting this research, we could recognize the difficulties faced by the students in a vague sense. In addition, the researcher focused on studying the analysis of students' difficulties in ambiguous meaning in the recount text.

It means that students' knowledge about ambiguous meanings should be greatly increased to know kinds of ambiguous meanings, and be able to explain ambiguous meanings in the sentences, especially in recount text.

The quality more that has the character of understanding to the symptom of the social phoneme or, because it has the character of learning about people (society as a subject). According to Sugiyono, there are two types of data sources, the primary source and the secondary source.15 The primary source is the data source that provides the data directly to the researcher at the Metro State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) in the academic year 2016/2017 In this research, the primary source is the teachers and students of the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro in the academic year 2016/2017 in the fifth semester.

Observation is an activity in which the researcher takes field notes on the behavior and activities of individuals in the research location.16 Here the researcher will use non-participant observation in which the researcher does not directly interact with the participant. It is used to recognize casual relationships between aspects of the research.17 This means that participants can freely answer the given questions in their own words. In the interview, the researcher conducts face-to-face interviews with the participants, interviews the participants by phone, or engages in focus groups with six to eight interviewees in each group.18 In this case, the researcher will interview the students to obtain data on understanding. of meaning ambiguity in the recounting text.

The author used this method to obtain data on the organizational structure of the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) in Metro during the academic year.

Data Analysis Technique

Research Approach

The sentences above have an ambiguous meaning, and the entire paragraph from the text above in the student's worksheet. Yes, because an ambiguous meaning has 2 or more meanings, so we can determine the right meaning when confused. Thus, it is sometimes difficult to understand an ambiguous meaning, and one of the factors is the lack of vocabulary that we have.

It should be understood that this research was only limited to the administration of the study on the problems faced by students in ambiguous meaning. The lecturers should explore more about ambiguous meaning and make innovation in teaching technique so that the learning process can be interesting and easily understood by the students.

RESULT AND DISCUSSION

Description of Research Setting

Metro State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) is located in Metro City, Lampung Province. As an Islamic college which is one of the preferred universities, State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro has vision and missions. In the same way, as an Islamic institute, the State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro prepares the academic culture not only in the development of Islamic religious science, but also in the development of general science.

To summarize in a nutshell, State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro has an education system based on the Islamic values. State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro was built on 23 to 25 April 1997 based on the decree of President RI No. This was the history of the establishment of the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro.

Now the National Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Metro three faculties namely Syari'ah Faculty, Tarbiya Faculty and Islamic Announcement and Communication Faculty. The number of lecturers and clerks at the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Metro in the academic year 2015/2016 is 152. So the total staff of the State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) Metro in the academic year 2016/2017 is 246.

The total of students in State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro No Academic Year Students. English Education Program (TBI) is one of Strata 1 (S1) majors of Tarbiya Faculty in State Institute of Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro established in 2007. According to the Implementation License of Study Program of the General Director, TBI is located in State Institute for Islamic Studies (IAIN) of Metro in Jl.

General Description of Research Data

My friend chose one of the books and sat down in the corner of the library. I think the sentences of "she read the bloody story with "red eyes" are ambiguous sentence. My friend chose one of the books and sat down in the corner of the library.

According to the students' statements, the students know about the ambiguous meaning, although some students misinterpret about ambiguous. In my opinion, for some time to. analyze ambiguous is difficult because we need detail to analyze all the sentence without any mistakes. Sometimes it is a difficult topic to analyze ambiguous because we need detail to analyze all the sentence without any mistakes.

Discussion

It can be said that students need to improve their understanding of the type of ambiguity and the reason why sentences can be ambiguous.

Limitation

Students need to increase their learning about ambiguous subject matter, especially the type of ambiguity, the concept of meaning, and the causal factors of ambiguity. Students need to increase their awareness of checking meaning words in the dictionary and understanding it.
