Background of the Problem
They added that collocations are word pairs or phrases that are often used in speech, but do not follow any general syntactic or semantic rules.10 Then a definition of collocation is given, focusing on its appearance. Guven, Atakan Kubilay and Yasemin Kubilay said that collocations are different from other types of conjunctions and are listed in the order in which they appear in the text.11 Dardane Bojaxhi also gave a simple definition of collocation saying that collocations are seen as word combinations ( connections), formed in syntactic and semantic consonance.12 From the above ideas, it can be concluded that a collocation is a word pair or group of words that occurs and when combined sounds natural. As we know, the structure of the language in Indonesian is different from English, for example, in the sentence membuat kelaht, when translated into English, it should be "make a mistake", but in English there is something called the concept of collocation, so it should be followed translation rules from Indonesian to English membuat kelaht "make a mistake" is changed to "make a mistake".
Public opinion often thinks that the translation of the word membuat as "do/make/make". This often happens even to English education majors who should already understand and be able to match word for word in English. The researcher's own experience during the process of teaching and learning activities in the classroom, students when making presentations often use the word "attention".
As discussed above, some words in English have pairs of words that can no longer be disputed. It turns out that someone arranged the words so that they become pairs of words that sound natural. Collocation is usually divided into lexical collocation and grammatical collocation.13 This will be discussed later in this study.
The composition will be evaluated using essays written by Raden Intan State Islamic University English Education Program students. 11 Guven, Ibrahim Atakan Kubilay, and Yasemin Kubilay, "The Study of "Oath, War and Booty" Concepts in Seyitbek Epos concerning Collocation with Computational Linguistic Methods. Accordingly, this study will discuss what makes collocations difficult for university students in the English Education Program to produce and what types of collocations students frequently make mistakes.

In qualitative research, the research instrument or tool is the researcher himself.16 Because the researcher is the instrument itself. The researcher found the data based on several theories to get the data about the factors that affect the students in learning speaking skills. Then the researcher distributed the questionnaires to the students online and asked the students to answer several questions from the researcher. The researcher used an offline questionnaire because they are fourth semester students of English Education Department at Islamic State University Raden Intan Lampung.
The researcher got the theory from some experts, they are Yang and Hendrick in Boonyasaquan, Carl James, Li-sw Huang, Muhammad Badea Hamed, Ronald Carter about the difficulties in producing collocation. The researcher took some students based on who failed the essay writing course in the fourth semester and got the lowest score. In this research, the researcher used questionnaires to collect data on students' difficulties in essay writing and the questionnaire on students' difficulties in using collocation.
In this research, the researcher used an interview to collect data on students' difficulties in using collocation in an essay. A structured interview was used as a data collection technique if the researcher knows what information he wants to get. In this research, the researcher used a structured interview to obtain information from several students about the problems students face in making collocation.
The reliability of the result of the data analysis is necessary to reduce the biases and prejudices of the researcher. In this study, the researcher will use triangulation to check the reliability of the data analysis. Miles and Huberman explain that triangulation identifies several types, including (1) data source triangulation, (2) investigator triangulation, (3) theory triangulation, and (4) methodological triangulation.31 In this study, the researcher used investigator triangulation.
Following a question from a lecturer in a class teaching essay writing, the researcher asked the students to complete an assignment sheet. In this step, the researcher notes the conclusions and checks the assignment, questionnaire and interview answers to the research questionnaires that the researcher has for the students.
Introduction
Number of population in the fourth semester of the English education program at Raden Intan State Islamic University Lampung. Source: Data on the fourth semester of the English education program at the State Islamic University Raden Intan v. Sugiyono says that the sample is representative of the size and characteristics of the population.35 In sampling, purposive sampling is used, where the data is selected according to the purpose of the study.
Sugiyono stated that purposive sampling is a data sampling technique that considers certain factors. For example, this consideration can be a person who is assumed to know the most about what we expect, or it can be a ruler who makes it easier for the researchers to explore the subject/social situation they are investigating.36 The researcher used this purpose sampling technique is also known as a judgmental, selective, or purposive sampling technique, where units are investigated based on the researcher's judgment. The researcher took several students based on those who did not pass the essay writing course in the class from one of the lecturers of the fourth semester, because the researchers had permission to access the data in those classes, while the researcher did not have access to conduct research in other classes. who got the lowest score. Thus, the lowest grade a researcher needs is a class of students who received a final grade of mostly D (quality score of 1.00) and E (quality score of 0.00).
The admission consideration of students who have received final grades D and E are students who have studied the writing course from the first semester to the third semester. Therefore, students' writing skills can be analyzed to determine the factors that influence them to learn collocation and the supporting and inhibiting factors.

Description of the Research Object
Students as Writer
Students need to engage in more active writing practice, especially in writing collocation, to overcome their difficulties in producing collocation and get used to writing collocation in some literature. They also need to expand their English vocabulary, which they can do by listening to English songs, watching TV, YouTube, reading articles or engaging in other media. After the lesson, students can ask for the correct answers to the exercises they completed while writing the casts.
Next, remember to use a writing strategy that is essential if you want to succeed in collocation writing. During the learning process, the lecturer should pay attention to the distinction between collocations with an idiom and others. A lecturer should come to teach a collocation that is more complex than an idiom or an expression.
More than that, the researcher predicts that it will be useful to use more methods or strategies, especially in the collocation of teaching in semantic study. It is hoped that it will help the lecturers in carrying out their responsibilities in the teaching and learning process.
