AU swimming and diving teams compete at RIT Invitational 12/02/07

ROCHESTER, NY -- The Alfred University men's and women's swimming and diving teams competed at the RIT- hosted Don Richard Invitational Friday, Saturday and Sunday. The AU men finished in first place of five team

competing, with 901.5 points, edging runner-up Ithaca (875 points) The AU women were fifth of five teams, with 377 points.Earning wins for the Alfred men were junior Matt Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) in the 200-yard and 100- yard backstroke, senior Page Beecher (Scarborough, ME/Scarborough) in the 200-yard butterfly, 200-yard individual medley and 400-yard individual medley, junior Brian Agro (Gray, ME/Cheverus) in the 100-yard and 200-yard breaststroke, and sophomore Andrew Brisson (Greenwich, CT/Greenwich) in the 200-yard freestyle.Alfred also won the following relays: Beecher, Brisson, Matt Baker and freshman Tyler Olsen (Saratoga Springs, NY/Saratoga) in the 800-yard free relay; Matt Baker, Beecher, Agro, and junior Mark Baker (Weedsport, NY/Weedsport) in the 200-yard medley relay; Mark Baker, Olsen, Brisson and Matt Baker in the 200-yard free relay; Matt Baker, Agro, Beecher and Brisson in the 400-yard medley relay; and Mark Baker, Beecher, Olsen and Brisson in the 400-yard freestyle

relay.Other top performers for the AU men were: Mark Baker, second in the 100-yard and 200-yard free and third in the 50-yard freestyle; Agro, second in the 200-yard IM, Brisson, third in the 100-yard and 500-yard free; sophomore Kameron Chambliss (Alfred Station, NY/Alfred-Almond), second in 1-meter diving.Top performers for the Alfred women included: junior Brynja Seagren (Bradford, PA/Bradford), second in 1-meter diving; freshman Cailin Asmo (Johnson City, NY/Johnson City), 10th in the 200-yard butterfly; senior Kim Covino (Derby, NY/Lake Shore), 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke; junior Jessie Caccamo (Ballston Lake, NY/Shenendehowa), seventh in the 400-yard

individual medley, eighth in the 1,650-yard freestyle and ninth in the 500-yard freestyle; sophomore Meghan Jones (Beaver Falls, NY/Beaver River), 13th in the 100-yard backstroke; freshman Sarah Blair (Auburn, NY/Auburn), seventh in the 100-yard breaststroke and 50-yard free; freshman Elyse Caldwell (Endwell, NY/Maine-Endwell), 10th in 1-meter diving; and freshman Calista Merritt (Conesus, NY/Livonia), 11th in the 1,650-yard freestyle and 13th in the 500-yard freestyle.Caccamo, Asmo, freshman Merritt, and freshman Kate Cohen (Bradford, PA/Bradford) were eighth in the 800-yard freestyle relay; junior Anne Sheehy (Staatsburg, NY/FDR), Seagren and Merritt were 10th in the 200-yard medley relay; Blair, Caccamo, senior Lyndsay Scypta (Plymouth, MI/Cranbrook-Kingswood) and Seagren were seventh in the 200-yard freestyle relay; Jones, Covino, Asmo and Blair were seventh in the 400-yard medley relay; and Blair, Caccamo, Covino and Asmo, eighth in the 400-yard free relay.The AU men's and women's teams are in action next on Saturday, Dec. 8, at 1 p.m. for a dual meet at Empire 8 rival Ithaca.
