AU men's swimming and diving team glides past RIT 12/01/01
ALFRED The Alfred University men's swimming and diving team cruised to an easy 142-92 victory over RIT in the team's first home meet of the season on Saturday afternoon at Lebohner Pool.Senior Patrick Kerwin
(Canandaigua/Canandaigua) and junior Brian Matt (New Hartford/New Hartford) led Alfred with two first place finishes each. Kerwin placed first in the 50 freestyle (21.69) and the 100 freestyle (49.40), while Matt captured first place in the 200 IM (2:10.92) and 200 fly (2:12.45). Rounding out AU's impressive list of individual first place finishers was senior Drew Harrington (Bethesda, MD/St. Andrew Episcopal) in the 1000 freestyle (10:38.84), senior Dave Berman (Auburn/Auburn) in the 1-meter dive (232.0), senior Steve Harvey (Appleton/Barker) in the 500 freestyle (5:13.22), sophomore Matt Weems (Arlington, VA/Washington & Lee) in the 200 freestyle (1:51.12) and sophomore Mike Dube (Williamsburg, VA/Lafeyette) in the 200 backstroke. The 200 medley relay team of junior Justin Healy (Fayetteville/Jamesville-DeWitt), freshman Kevin Martin (Conesus/Livonia), junior Carl Schwarting (Weedsport/Weedsport) and Kerwin also posted a first place finish in the meet's first event.The Alfred team as a whole secured first place finishes in 10 of the day's 13 events.The Saxons are in action again on Tuesday, December 4, at 6 p.m., when they travel to the Ithaca.
