The Birth of the Saviour, its Annunciation by the Angels and its Verification by the Shepherds. A patient and righteous student of the Third Gospel will not be at a loss for an answer.
Introduction
1. The Author
But is not the external evidence for the Lukan authorship of the Third Gospel and Acts equally strong? Thus we have three classes in favor of Luke as the author of the third Gospel.
3. The Sources of the Gospel
Oracles" or "Words of the Lord"; and hence the great quantity of matter, chiefly discourses, common to Matthew and Luke, but not found in Mark. Thus, in the description of the Baptist, Matthew (3:4) and Mark (1:6) tell us about John's ascetic clothing and food, which Luke is silent about.

7. The Integrity of the Third Gospel
It should be noted that Marcion's Gospel not only contains almost all the sections that are Luke's own, but contains them in the same order. This applies especially to "large intercalation as well as to smaller insertions; and this minute agreement, step by step, between Marcion and Luke renders the hypothesis of their independence improbable. The only possible alternative is that Marcion excised our third gospel, or that our third gospel is an expansion of Marcion's; and it can be. proved the second of these untenable.

8. The Text
Corrector B2 is of about the same date and used a good copy, though not as good as the original. If these uncials were placed according to merit for the textual criticism of the Gospel, we would have B as an easy principle, with א just as easy. The Western element, which sometimes disturbs the text of B, is almost entirely absent from the Gospels.
We are not yet in a position to determine the relation of the recently discovered Sinaitic Syriac (Syr-Sin.) to the other Syriac versions and to other representatives of primitive texts: and it would be rash for one unacquainted with it Syrian would attempt a solution to this problem. Lewis, are often quoted in the notes, so that the reader can judge how far they support the text adopted in this commentary. It should be noted that four of the seven examples of Conflate Readings cited by WH.
9. Literary History
The Didaché seems to give the content of the Sermon on the Mount. However, what has been quoted above is enough to establish the fact that Luke's influence influenced the Didaché. It is generally accepted that the fragment of the Gospel of Peter is sufficient to prove that the writer of this apocryphal narrative knew all four canonical Gospels.

But just as in the interpretation of the four symbolic creatures the calf has been uniformly taken as a signifier of S. Luke, so in the arrangement of the Gospels his has almost invariably been placed in the third place.
10. Commentaries
Only parts of the original Greek exist, but a Syriac version of the whole was edited by Dr. Canon of Christ Church, Oxford; "the Father of English commentators." The Title of the Gospel
The Prologue or Preface
Ewald observes that "in its complete simplicity, modesty, and brevity, it is the model of a preface to a historical work." Its grammatical construction should be compared with that of the introduction to the synodical letter in Acts 15:24, Acts 15:25: Ἐπειδὴ ἠκούσαμεν. On the other hand, of the more classical types, (γ) is much less common in the Gospel than in Acts, while the forms grouped under (δ) do not occur at all in the Gospel.

Shepherds

This is very strained, requires the insertion of the article, which is almost certainly an interpolation, and assumes that the record of the d.d.
