Accruals quality and earnings persistence around IFRS adoption: Empirical evidence from manufacturing firms in Indonesia

(Article)

, , ,

Department of Accounting, Universitas Diponegoro, Semarang, Indonesia

Abstract

This study aims to examine the impact of IFRS adoption on earnings quality in Indonesia. To achieve this objective, this study analyzes the earnings changes as proxied by accrual quality and earnings persistence before and after IFRS adoption. A total sample of Indonesia listed firm spanning the period of – that constitutes

observations was used for analysis. The result of this study supports proposed hypothesis that there is a difference in accrual quality before and after IFRS adoption. In addition, there is an empirical evidence that accrual quality increases after IFRS adoption. However, this study does not find the difference of earnings persistence before and after IFRS adoption. This study contributes to accounting literature by providing an empirical evidence of the impact of IFRS adoption on earnings quality in Indonesia as an emerging economy. © IAEME Publication

ABSTRACT

This paper titled “Effective Writing Skills – Essential for Civil and other core Engineering Graduates” begins with an introduction on the importance of English in the global market and moves with a brief discussion on teaching of English in engineering colleges. The paper throws light on the necessary steps that need to be taken in enriching written communication of engineering graduates. It, with authentic surveys, pinpoints the deficiency level of many of our engineering graduates in written communication. Besides highlighting the major differences between technical English and general English, the paper makes a sincere attempt to emphasize the role to be played by language teachers and to distinguish approaches and methods that need to be effectively and meaningfully adopted to serve the objectives. The paper ends with some suggestions that can be incorporated in the syllabus in English for engineering students.

This study aims to look at the lecturers’ perception of the dimension of the study

centers chairperson's leadership style. Therefore, this study seeks to identify two

dimensions of chairperson’s leadership style, namely task-oriented (leader focuses on

the tasks) and relationship-oriented (leader focuses on human relations) leader which

promote motivation to lecturers. The researcher conducted a survey in three study

centers at Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM) which involved 75 lecturers as

respondents. The questionnaire comprises two dimensions of chairperson’s leadership

styles and lecturers’ motivation level. Data from this study were analyzed using SPSS

version 23.0 to obtain descriptive analysis and statistical inference (Pearson

correlation coefficient). Descriptive analysis allows the researcher to identify the

chairperson's leadership style either the dimension of task-oriented or relationship

oriented being practiced. Meanwhile, statistical inference (Pearson correlation

coefficient) is used to determine the relationship of chairperson's leadership style with

ABSTRACT

Platform Industry 4.0 combines industrial technologies and the global network into a single Internet of Things. Cyber-physical systems will increase manufacturing efficiency and resource performance, and will also induce more flexible work management models. Every year, mankind has to work with increasing volumes of information. Therefore, the developers of interfaces and specialized software invent new ways of data display. But the work of a human-operator is still needed, as the specialists in this field know the mathematical environment, and therefore, they study the customer's business and help to compose the necessary algorithm of data analysis for the customer, which is still impossible for the computer. Thus, the aim of the research is to analyze the prospects for the development of post-NGN network technologies (environmental management, the creation of an integrated info communication space, the interpenetration of ideas and technologies of automation and telecommunications) in the era of the technology platform Industry 4.0.

ATTITUDE OF CUSTOMERS TOWARDS MADE IN NIGERIA TEXTILE INDUSTRY PRODUCTS

IYIOLA Oluwole, BORISHADE Taiye T, OGUNNAIKE Olaleke, KEHINDE Oladele J, FALOLA Hezekiah, OMOTOYINBO Charles, OGAZI Jeremiah

Department of Business Management. PMB 1023, Ota, Ogun State, Nigeria ABSTRACT

The primary duty of any nation is to seek secured sustained economic growth in other to be independent and must also put structures in place to ensure that importation is reduced, and local resources are effectively utilised in the production process. However, when citizens of a nation do not consume products produced in their country, it may lead to economic disaster. The globalization of world trade has led to local markets being flooded with many foreign made products; hence, widening the range of alternatives of consumers and as well increasing the competition in local markets while grave threats are posed to the marketability and sales of locally made products. Over the years, the Nigeria manufacturing sector which includes the textile industry as a subset has been afflicted with intermittent power supply, huge scale under-use of manufacturing capability and a poor and unhealthy customer patronage of locally produced products. Based on these premise, this study seeks to investigate why there are low patronage of made in Nigeria goods by its citizens. Two hundred and two (202) copies of questionnaire were distributed to respondents in Lagos. Data were analyzed using regression analysis for the hypothesis testing. The result reveals that quality of made in Nigeria products is a major factor for consumers at F = 143.078, β= 1.004 and p=.000. In conclusion, it is recommended that Nigerian manufacturers must strive for excellence in quality of made in Nigeria product with respect to their textile products and brands in order to compete successfully against foreign competitors
