First, individuals must have a heart that submits to God (Deuteronomy 6:1-5) and second, a desire to form their minds biblically (Rom 12:1-2).1 The connection between heart and mind can be traced throughout Scripture. One of the main areas of ministry in which the church had become stale was spiritual formation or discipleship. History, nostalgia and habit have long been healed in the spiritual bones of the oldest saints.

One of the main environments where their obedience would be lived was in the Promised Land. This belief is a distinguishing feature for the Israelites compared to the rest of the religions seen in the land around them. Moses makes a statement about God that contradicts the duplicitous beliefs of the people of the land.

1 James Houston, "The Future of Spiritual Formation," Journal of Spiritual Formation & Soul Care 4, no. Spiritual formation for the Christian is the growth of the whole person towards maturity in a loving relationship with God, with oneself, with other persons in society and to. Boa writes: "The New Testament often emphasizes the importance of unity among brothers and sisters in Christ.

Barriers to spiritual formation were the content of the second half of the class. In its original form, Taylor simply called the model "The Seven." This model had seven different areas of spiritual formation that were named and described. These terms were associated with the assessment and used throughout the teaching of the course.

The first goal of the project was to assess the current level of understanding of spiritual formation with members who participated in the equipment class. This chapter focused on the implementation of the device class and the design and evaluation results of the spiritual formation used for the project. The goal of the project was to create a holistic model of spiritual formation to influence the personal growth of SBC members.

The pre- and post-class assessment helped members assess their current spiritual formation compared to the model sections.

Would Do Differently

Encouraging new converts to work through this course material would help them identify and navigate obstacles to spiritual formation and aid in their progressive sanctification. This would create SBC members to have a stronger understanding of who and what initiates spiritual formation. Finally, I would remove the phrase spiritual formation from the material and replace it with a better descriptive phrase.

It began with praying through a project proposal, building the initial context and scope of work, writing chapters on the Bible and spiritual formation literature, and implementing the project itself. At times, while teaching the course, I may have relied too heavily on the information and presentation to complete the work of spiritual formation in the student. Regularly reminding SBC members of this truth as a reality in their spiritual formation will be helpful in their personal growth.

I was reminded that pastors can study, practice, and teach (Ezra 7:10), but unless the Holy Spirit works in the hearts of SBC members, there will be no lasting change or true spiritual formation. My final theological reflection was to deal with the interconnectedness of human hearts and minds in spiritual formation. I was able to look back on the project and see that I was setting up SBC members to model the sailboat idea in their own spiritual formation journey.

The goal of the project was to create a holistic model of spiritual formation for SBC members that would influence their personal growth. The goals of this project were achieved and hopefully continued growth in spiritual formation will occur for the church at large. The goal is to help you develop a holistic model for spiritual formation, and the learning materials will hopefully help you grow in a positive way about transformation.

The research that you are about to participate in is designed to help you develop a holistic model of spiritual formation and discover how you can grow in. This research was initiated by Jerrod Rumley for the purpose of assisting our life group leaders in Shadowbrook Church to grow in their understanding of spiritual formation process. This syllabus deals with the inner components of spiritual formation that exist at the core of a person.

How People Change

Equipping Class

12 Exodus 20

Have people read and discuss what aspects of the heart are shown in these texts Joy - 1 Samuel 2:1. Soul – the part of you that is the deepest connection to your (inner) Power – will (nod to discipline coming in week 5). Spiritual formation is the grace-filled process by which people mature and conform to the image of Christ.

Mounce suggests that this discontinuity "marks the transition from the theology of God's redemptive action in Christ Jesus to the ethical expectation that logically follows form that theological foundation." It is clear to see that Spiritual Formation is a grace-driven process. chapters 1-11 argue for the mercies that have occurred. Scripture is the primary way God speaks to His people Connect with our definition of Spiritual Formation.

Summary of spiritual formation (weeks 1-4) – this is due to the time gap in the corona virus pandemic. It is this will that the apostle Paul discusses in Romans 12, where he clearly connects discernment with God's will. 1 James Strong, The Exhaustive Concordance of the Bible: Showing Every Word in the Text of the Common English Edition of the Canonical Books, and Every Occurrence of Each Word in Regular Order, Electronic Ed.

One of the great tragedies of contemporary Christianity is the preoccupation of so many Christians with the secret decretive will of God to the exclusion and neglect of the preceptive will. It is easier to engage in wicked pursuits of the secret counsel of God than to apply ourselves to the practice of godliness. We can flee to the safety of the sovereign will and try to turn our sin over to God, placing the burden and responsibility for it on his immutable will.

We take refuge in our precious doctrine of justification by faith alone, forgetting that the doctrine must be a catalyst for the pursuit of justice and obedience to the prescriptive will of God.”1. It is the hardworking farmer who should have the first part of the crops" (2 Titus 2:4-6). The chapter includes the spiritual formation survey used, a teaching schedule and curriculum reviewed by an expert panel, and explains the subtle nuances of the project.
