The Division of Allied Health Sciences was established in 1959 at the initiative of the Indiana University Board of Trustees. The Allied Health Sciences Department, an integral part of the Indiana University School of Medicine, has a long tradition of academic excellence.
Change of Educational Objective for Preprofessional Students
With the exception of those applying to the associate degree programs in occupational therapy technology, medical laboratory technology, medical record technology, and radiologic technology, all students remain in the University Division or other academic units until admitted to the Allied Health Sciences Division.
Admissions
Application to Indiana University must be prior to or concurrent with application to a Division of Allied Health Sciences program. The Department of Allied Health Sciences reserves the right to determine the acceptance of transfer credit to fulfill degree requirements.
Academic Regulations
Each degree in the Department of Allied Health Sciences is a separate academic curriculum and students may not take a double major. Program faculty evaluation and recommendations regarding probationary status will be forwarded to the Director of the Division of Allied Health Sciences.
Honors
Students who fail to re-enroll as specified in the continuation agreement are subject to dismissal from the Division of Allied Health Sciences. Unique cases and complaints should be forwarded to the Director of the Division of Allied Health Sciences for review.

The student may also release the record to others by signing a written release available in the records keeping offices. 34;Intent to Graduate" form in the program office one semester before the one in which they intend to complete degree requirements.

General Degree, Education and Academic Requirements
Students who withdraw through the third quarter of each semester will receive W or WF depending on student performance in the course. In the last quarter of each semester, students may withdraw with the grade of either W or Fat at the instructor's discretion, with his approval and the Dean's approval, and dependent on student performance at the time withdrawal is requested.
Medical Center-General Information
Withdrawals from Courses With the approval of the faculty advisor, withdrawals are permitted on or before mid-semester with an automatic WX grade. Honors Program Each program will recommend honors degrees to university students with excellent academic standing.
Housing at Indianapolis
This campus is one of the few medical centers in the country that has its own Union Building. Part-time students may be seen in the Health Service for a $5.00 per visit fee or Jess.
Financial Aid
After hours, weekends and holidays, full-time students will be seen in Wishard Memorial Hospital's emergency room. The University has also provided an optional insurance plan that covers students in the event of hospitalization or treatment in an emergency room for accidental injury.
Academic Programs, Medical Center Cytotechnology
Curriculum The following prerequisite courses must be completed to be eligible for enrollment. Animal cell physiology with laboratory (4-5 er.) Histology with laboratory (4-5 er.). With the permission of the program faculty, alternative junior or senior level biological science courses may be taken as a substitute for one of these.).
Health Services Management
Electives; 6 hours selected from: anthropology, economics, history, labor studies, political science, psychology, public affairs, social work, extracultural studies, forensic studies, geography, journalism, minority studies, telecommunications, and sociology, as approved by the program faculty. Electives; 6 hours selected from: astronomy, biology, chemistry, computer science, geography, geology, mathematics, microbiology and physics, as approved by the program faculty.
Medical Record Administration
Because some corequisite courses are not currently offered on every campus, students must request specialized program scheduling and course substitution approval from the program director. Introduction to accounting I and II (6 ers.) Management and behavior in organizations (3 ers.) Business communication (3 ers.).
Medical Technology
Qualified students who wish to complete the academic year at one of these hospitals must apply directly to the hospital. Students enrolled in a professional year program at one of the hospital schools are not Indiana University students during the period of this clinical training.
Occupational Therapy
Upon completion of the clinical year, the hospital school in which the student is enrolled will submit evidence of satisfactory completion of the hospital program to the University. A list of the hospital-accredited programs with which the Division affiliates may be obtained from the Division office in Indianapolis or Gary, and from any University Division counselor in the Indiana University system.
Baccalaureate Degree Program
Curriculum
Graduates of the associate degree program are eligible to take the certification exam leading to enrollment in the Occupational Therapy Assistant Registry administered by the American Occupational Therapy Association. The Associate Degree Program in Occupational Therapy Technology is approved by the Accreditation Board of the American Occupational Therapy Association.
Physical Therapy
The Constance Brown Memorial Scholarship, established in memory of a deceased classmate, is awarded to an outstanding junior physical therapy student. Ekstam Scholarship, in honor of the first director of the Physical Therapy Program, is awarded to an outstanding senior physical therapy student.
Radiologic Sciences
Admission to the Associate Degree program is based on consideration of each applicant's high school and/or college grade point average, SAT scores, and personal interview. Applications must be submitted between September 1 and December 31 of the year before the planned enrollment in the program.
DIAGNOSTIC CLINICAL SPECIALTY
The Bachelor of Science in Radiological Sciences degree is awarded upon successful completion of the Diagnostic Clinical Specialty or Nuclear Medicine Technology options. If students satisfactorily meet these requirements, they may apply for admission to the Radiological Technology Baccalaureate program.
OPTION II: NUCLEAR MEDICINE TECHNOLOGY
The amount of elective hours will vary for each student to complete a total of 90 semester hours of prerequisite coursework. Life and Physical Sciences Elective-to complete the total 40 semester hours; elective areas include: Selected Allied Health, Anatomy, Biology, Chemistry, Genetics, Mathematics, Microbiology, Nursing, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology and Physics.

Students may be eligible for an interest subsidy (the federal government will pay the interest on the student's behalf) while the student is in school. The Student Employment Program is a service for students who wish to work (part-time and full-time) during the year (both on and off campus) to help meet college expenses.

The Medical Records Technology Program offices and classrooms are located in Hawthorn Hall on the Northwest Campus. It is the policy of the Medical Records Technology Program to require a minimum grade point average of 2.0 on a 4.0 scale for admission to the program.

Student Status for Indiana University Fee Purposes
An individual shall be classified as a "resident student" if he or she has continuously resided in Indiana for at least twelve (12) consecutive months immediately preceding the first scheduled day of instruction of the semester or second session in which the individual enrolls in University, subject to the exception in (c) below. (a) The residence of an unemancipated person under the age of 21 years follows the residence of the parents or of a guardian who actually has custody of such person or administers such person's property.
