HISTORIC COURSE NOW IN 2ND WEEK
Participants are now in their second week of a two-week course, the 62nn edition of the oldest medical continuing education course in the countrY.
at the I.U. School of Medicine. ~
This historic course, begun in 1915 by the late Dr. John F. Barnhill, professor and chairman of the I.U. Department of Pathology, was for many years known
throughout the country as the "Barnhill Course." Now called "Head and Neck Anatomy and Clinical Otolaryngology," it is a cooperative effort by the faculty of the School of Medicine co-ordinated and directed by the Department of
Otolaryngology.
The most comprehensive course in anatomy and histopathology of the head and,, neck in the country, it is useful for preparation before the board examination in plastic surgery and oral surgery as well as in otolaryngology. It also serves as a review of current practice for board-certified otolaryngologists and for residents training in this specialty.
A maximum enrollment of 30 physicians has been established for the course, and advance registration is required because of its popularity. Its concentrated lectures and laboratory work extend from 8 a.m. to 10 p.m. with time out for lunch and dinner every day for two weeks.
Course director is Dr. Raleigh E. Lingeman, chairman and professor of the Department of Otolaryngology. Other members of the core faculty for the course are Drs. David E. Brown, Lewis E. Morrison, Ronald C. Hamaker, Laverne B. Tubergen, Mark I. Singer, Robert H. Shellhamer and Garry L. Bolinger.
