On his way home he passed a wide river. That’s where he threw the ducks in to the river in order to make sure if the ducks were bad or good. After throwing the ducks he saw the ducks were floating on the water. Suddenly, he remembered what his mother had said to him “if you see the egg floating on the water it means that egg has bad quality”. “damn, that old man successfully deceived me he gave me bad ducks, well maybe this is not my day” said I Belog.

After finding out the ducks were not good he left the ducks swimming in the river.

When he got home his mother ask him “Where are the ducks” asked his mother “When I threw the ducks in to the river I saw they were floating, so that I assumed the ducks were bad and I left them. I remember what you said to me before if the egg is floating on the water, it means that egg is bad” replied I Belog. Then his mother nagged at I Belog because I Belog was very stupid. He compared the eggs with the ducks. Then I Belog got his bottom kicked by his mother.

Siap Selem

There’s a story of a hen named Siap Selem. She has a lot of children, which has a unique name.

One of them, I Doglagan which means no feather. As a parent, she is very protective towards her children and very cunning. One of the enemies of this family is a mongoose named Men Kuwuk.

One day, the chicken family wander here and there searching for food until evening. It’s raining so they seek shelter and eventually they arrive at Men Kuwuk’s house.

The arrival of Siap Selem and her family made Men Kuwuk very happy. On her head she imagines her eating the chickens. Men Kuwuk invites the chicken family to stay in her house.

The day is turning night, Siap Selem is very vigilant. She knows something is not right behind Men Kuwuk’s kindness because she knows what Men Kuwuk did to chickens.

When the rain stopped, Siap Selem immediately commanded her children to run away through the fences in Men Kuwuk’s house. One by one, her childer ran away from Men Kuwuk’s house until there’s only I Doglagan left. Because I Doglagan is still very small and didn’t have feathers yet, Siap Selem leaves him unwillingly.

“Doglagan, I trust you to deceive Men Kuwuk and her family, because you are the smartest.”

Men Kuwuk quietly observes Men Kuwuk’s family from afar. She felt confident that there is no other way that the family could escape. The fence is simply too tall to be passed. Meanwhile, I Doglagan is in the middle of moving black stones that looks like chickens.

When midnight came, Men Kuwuk is getting ready to eat Siap Selem and her family. She called Siap Selem. No Response. Men Kuwuk is sure that Siap Selem and her children are already asleep. Then she sneaks around and approaches the place where the chicken sleeps. With lightning speed, she ate the stone, not Siap Selem. All of her teeth fall off. I Ulagan saw

Suddenly, her daughter's legs turned into stone. The daughter realized that it was because she had hurt her mother's feelings. She begged her mother to forgive but it was too late.

Cases of Child Bullying in Cilacap

The Indonesian public has recently been outraged by a case of bullying of junior high school children that occurred in Cilacap. The perpetrator was also recorded as being underage.

Many doubted that the perpetrators received inappropriate and less severe punishment. Then how exactly does the law address crimes committed by children and why do the sentences given tend to be considered light?

Faculty of Law lecturer at the University of Muhammadiyah Malang (UMM), Ratri Novita Erdianti, emphasized that there is still criminal responsibility for children. One of the consequences is the existence of special imprisonment for children.

This final effort is made if there is no other way or various ways have been tried for children as perpetrators of criminal acts. In the eyes of the law, this system is called ultimum and remedium.

Prison sentences for children are not easy to impose. This is because prison generally has many negative connotations. Psychological exposure and stigmatization from the community will affect the child's growth and development.

The age of children who can be given punishment is limited, namely in the range of 14 to 18 years. Under this age, they cannot be given sanctions or the final punishment of imprisonment.

They will only be given sanctions that can deter the perpetrator.

According to him, criminal acts on children must be very careful. If they are not classified as perpetrators of serious crimes such as murder and immorality, they will be given other criminal options.

"One of them, such as fostering in an institution regulated in the Juvenile Justice System Law, can be an option taken by the judge."

Ratri also said that sometimes children do not realize that there are some actions that can be punished. For example, persecution that hurts others.

Therefore, prison sentences for children are avoided and cannot be given immediately without

much consideration.

He stated that the length of detention for children has also been explained in the law. There is no life imprisonment and the maximum prison term will be half of the prison term of adult prisoners. In addition, the prison provided is also specifically for children.

Child offenders will have their identity protected, from the investigation process to the judge's decision. This is done so as not to cause traumatic effects for children.

If considered, it may be possible to optimize other options besides prison. But not according to the possibility that the choice is prison.

What is certain, he said, is that the public must understand that the principle of the best interests of children is a priority for obtaining appropriate criminal considerations. Especially considering the long-term effects that have a positive or negative impact on their growth and development.

Indonesia earthquake topples houses in Java; death toll rises to 162

At least 162 people were killed and hundreds more injured as a 5.6 intensity earthquake shook Indonesia's main island of Java on Monday, reports said.

The quake struck Cianjur town in west Java, at a depth of 10 km, according to US Geological Survey data.

The area where the quake struck is densely-populated and prone to landslides, with the makeshift houses reduced to rubble in many areas, the BBC reported.

Rescuers were working into the night to try to save others thought to still be trapped under collapsed buildings.

Regional Governor Ridwan Kamil said 162 people were killed, over 700 injured, and more than 13,000 people displaced by the disaster, the BBC reported.

He apprehended that the numbers of injuries and fatalities were likely to increase because there were "a lot of people" still trapped at the scene.

Earthquakes are common in Indonesia, which sits on the "ring of fire" area of tectonic activity in the Pacific, with a 2018 quake in Sulawesi leaving over 2,000 dead.

Flooding in Jakarta

The flooding, caused by days of heavy rain at Jakarta, has blocked roads and forced businesses in the capital to close. The governor of Jakarta has declared a state of emergency. He also said he was committed to making a "breakthrough" in efforts to tackle the flooding. Jakarta resident, Wildan, urged the government to do more to stop floods in the future. "The dams are no longer sufficient to hold the water," he said.

Yayat Supriatna, an urban planning expert, told the BBC that Jakarta's drainage system "is still the same as it was in the Dutch colonial era" and should be rebuilt. "The floods are caused by the failure to manage and sustain the rivers as water reservoirs. I suggest the governor dredge the rivers because if the rivers are deeper the better [the system] will function."

The Jakarta Post said two of the people killed in the capital were children, aged 13 and two.

State funds are available to help those affected by the flooding following the declaration of a state of emergency, which will remain in effect until 27 January.

Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19)

Coronavirus disease (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a newly discovered coronavirus. Most people infected with the COVID-19 virus will experience mild to moderate respiratory illness and recover without requiring special treatment.

Older people and those with underlying medical problems like cardiovascular disease, diabetes, chronic respiratory disease, and cancer are more likely to develop serious illnesses.

The best way to prevent and slow down transmission is be well-informed about the COVID- 19 virus, the disease it causes, and how it spreads. Protect yourself and others from infection by washing your hands or using an alcohol-based rub frequently and not touching your face.

The COVID-19 virus spreads primarily through droplets of saliva or discharge from the nose when an infected person coughs or sneezes, so it’s important that you also practice respiratory etiquette (for example, by coughing into a flexed elbow).

At this time, there are no specific vaccines or treatments for COVID-19. However, there are many ongoing clinical trials evaluating potential treatments. WHO will continue to provide updated information as soon as clinical findings become available.
