34;Club Clinic." which is a question and answer department for technical questions affecting Kiwanis clubs. It was called the "Kiwanis Club Federation." At this meeting the idea was born that a representative from each club would form a board of directors to operate Approx. at the same time that the Michigan county idea was being developed, the same subject was much thought and discussed in New England, but no organization was formed.

Also, the committee appointed at the Detroit Congress in May 1917 to prepare a new Constitution for the International Organization and to present it at the Providence Congress in June 1918, wrote in the preliminary draft of that Convention. - establishing a plan for district organization somewhat similar to the one already formulated in Michigan, but without knowledge of its existence. It appears, then, that the district idea received considerable attention independently in various quarters prior to the international convention at Providence, R. 34; Within the district and through the district clubs, we strive to achieve the goals of Kiwanis International as set forth in the Constitution.

This interim period is very valuable as it allows the international organization to prepare the program and policies of the administration for the next district and club year, which begins on January 1. The management and control of the affairs of the district, not otherwise provided for in the district constitution, are subject to the direction of the board. trustees of Kiwanis International, are assigned to a board of county trustees composed of the county governor. The district board of trustees meets regularly at least twice a year, in January and immediately before the fall district convention, but may meet more frequently if the district so desires.

In order to promote the International goals, District Committees are appointed by the Governor corresponding to the Standing Committees of International. Their work is to assist the international committees by helping the local clubs in the district to carry out the international program of Kiwanis work.

The club president then holds a similar conference for its club officers and directors and chairmen o. EACH DISTRICT holds a district convention sometime between August 1 and October 15, on a date mutually agreed upon by the board o. The host is a Kiwanis club or group of clubs in the district: whose local committees co-operate with the district organization in the convention arrangements.

Each district convention is visited by at least one official representative of the International Board of Trustees. Each chartered club in good standing in the district is entitled to three delegates, one of whom shall be the President. The district convention provides a wonderful opportunity for fellowship and the development of Kiwanis consciousness.

It is a rare chance for the new Kiwanian to quickly acquire a wide appreciation of the varied interests of the organization and a deepened realization of the appeal of its ideals to a multitude of men of superior quality of mind and heart. All the organization of the district and International exists to help the Kiwanis Club in the local community to function as perfectly as possible along the lines of Kiwanis objects and goals. THE OFFICERS of a Kiwanis Club are a President, the Immediate Past President, one or more Vice Presidents, a Secretary.

Kiwanis club members are expected to be mostly active members, paying their dues promptly and attending club meetings regularly. Each member must devote sixty percent of his professional time to the business or profession in which he is classified. He should also accept the ideals of the organization and be responsive to its spirit of service.

Before anyone can become a member, they must be supported by at least two active members in good standing; it must be approved by the club's classification and membership committees and passed by a two-thirds majority of the entire board of directors. Membership in a Kiwanis Club is intended to be representative of the best of the community's business and professional life. The success of Kiwanis depends on the intelligent loyalty and faithful activity of the members of the local club.

WHAT IT COSTS

The balance of the fund, after payment of prorated international fees and subscription and journal subscriptions, remains in the coffers of the new club. It is the policy of Kiwanis to operate a strict budget system in each of our organizational units and after careful auditing of the accounts, make them available for the information of each Kiwanis member. He writes to the General Office informing them of the committee's personnel and requests sponsoring instructions and supplies.

Before proceeding with the construction of a new Kiwanis club, a thorough investigation of the prospective city is made by the committee appointed by the club president. This survey shows the type of citizens, the general picture of the community, its progressiveness. The first task of the Sponsoring Committee is to interest a group of prominent men in a particular coma.

The small extra expense to each member adds wonderfully to the ability of the club to undertake many forms of efficient service and makes assessments for extras almost unknown in Kiwanis. Promote world peace through international understanding and the strengthening of the provisions of the United Nations Charter. According to the appropriation possible for committee meetings, certain of the committees were designated to hold meetings in the preparation of their programs and planning of their work.

Their task is actual fulfillment in the sense of a specific job and concrete expression of plans. The ultimate success of the entire work of the Kiwanis committee depends on the activity and loyalty of the club committee. The effective functioning of the club committee is the goal of this potentially productive correlation between the international.

Some of the Kiwanis publications have Jound a place of usefulness far beyond the limits of the organization. Many valuable pamphlets have been prepared by the officers of the organization as well as by the committees until there is a substantial and constantly growing library of informative and inspiring literature on various phases of Kiwanis. 34;How to be an Effective Club Secretary" are authoritative and comprehensive compendiums of information and instructions regarding the work of the officers of local clubs.

These describe the functions of the various committees and provide practical suggestions for committee work. It is listed as an activity in Convention Year 1 G23-24 and continued as such until the inauguration.
