Explain the natural product medicines especially from medicinal plants including all aspects of pharmacological use, active compounds which are responsibility for the pharmacological activity, and concept of standardization of herbal medicines

Examine the quality of herbal medicines products and give information to the patients and other health profession about herbal medicines

Analyze herbal medicines in all aspect for clinical and community application

Content 1. Introduction, syllabus, lecture topics, references. Literatures/references 2. Definition, history, and development of pharmacognosy, history and

the development of natural product drug in Indonesia,

3. Classification of natural product drug in Indonesia and those legal aspect;

4. Definition of crude drugs and extract used as natural product drugs, 5. Factors that influence the quality of natural products;

6. Important medicinal plants family with its characteristics;

7. Chemical constituent responsible for biological activity; standardization of crude drug and natural product,

8. Quality specification of crude drugs based on organoleptic, macroscopis and microscopic, physical, biological, chemical and physicochemical

Explain the concept of phytotherapy and all realted aspect including the pharmacological uses of medicinal plants, indications, side effects, interaction.

Apply herbal medicines for medicinal purposes and to give information about medicinal plants to patients and other health profession

Competence :

Conclude medicinal plants for curing and preventing disease and maintain the health with rational phytotherapy especially for self medication

Content 1. Introduction, syllabus, lecture topics, references.

3. Problems related to medicinal plants, holistic medicine concept, and regulation of plant usage in the health.

4. Medicinal plant in Indonesia traditional medicine,

5. Chemical substance in medicinal plant with its biological activity (phenol, cyanogenic glycoside, mucilago, volatile oil, glucosynolate, flavonoid, tannin, resin, alkaloid, coumarine, anthraquinone, saponin, cardiotonic glycoside, etc.).

6. Pharmacokinetic substance from of medicinal plants,

7. Drug interaction of herbal medicine, dosage and formulation of herbal medicine, selected plants for certain pathological condition, selected plants for certain system disorders, and also materia medica of selected plant (especially Indonesian plant)
