Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendeskripsikan resepsi penonton terhadap Noah dalam film Noah. Lebih lanjut, penelitian ini menunjukkan bahwa penerimaan penonton dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang akademisnya. Responden dalam penelitian ini berjumlah empat orang yang dipilih secara purposif (yaitu, seorang mahasiswa studi Al-Quran dan Tafsir, seorang mahasiswa pendidikan Islam, seorang mahasiswa pengembangan masyarakat Islam, dan seorang mahasiswa sastra Inggris).
Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah penerimaan penonton terhadap Noah dalam film Noah berbeda-beda. Penelitian ini lebih lanjut menunjukkan bahwa makna dalam film diberikan oleh penontonnya yang dipengaruhi oleh latar belakang pendidikan. Stuart Hall introduces the terms decoding and encoding in how meanings and messages are received by audiences. In the process of watching a film, the audience brings contextual factors such as identity, perceptions of the audience's social background, history and political factors that can influence how the audience receives the film. The movie Noah is inspired by the story of Noah's Ark in The Book Genesis, with some dramatization. The movie Noah has good moral values because the audience continues to preserve nature and obey the God. In Islam, Noah is known as the third prophet of the twenty-five prophets after Adam and Enoch.
