How do I decide if I need more education after high school?
34; I think it's generally agreed that about 5 percent of commercial farmers in this country have personal computers now," says Aims Coney, agricultural marketing manager for Digital Equipment Company." , to provide answers to the many "what...?" questions farmers have about their operations. Operating an office in Washington Court House, Ohio, Roehm advises other farmers what they need to get started with their software - the.

In addition, after learning what the machines are and what they do, many senior students are directed to create their own programs for the family farm, taking input from their parents and developing flow sheets specifically for whatever operation they have—be it dairy, cotton, almonds or grapes - the main crops of the area.
But this worry should pass quickly. "The moment they're afraid they don't know what they're doing, they love it," says one junior teacher of his students' newfound interest in community. They are not as likely to feel threatened by the computer as their parents, - they say. They have grown up with it.
VALCOM LEARNING CENTER
To help farmers in Ohio's Fayette and Clark counties deal with this situation, Roehm and his partner, Jim Dayton, helped form cooperative "computer clubs." Several farmers go together and buy the necessary equipment and share its use. It has since expanded to include users in the continental United States, six provinces in Canada, and a few foreign countries. Other institutions, at state, regional and national levels, offer telecomputing services. These include, for example, the Farm Bureau, the Professional Farmers of America and the United States Department of Agriculture.

Whether in the field or in the office, angels Joan Cravens, top, or cowgirl Teresa Bryant, above, know how to get the job done. Meanwhile, at Ladner Farm's headquarters in Poplarville, angel Joan Cravens codes some accounts payable and enters them into the company's microcomputer, while angel Carol Magers finalizes a business deal over the phone.

Editor's Note: It's not often that Future Farmers of America is associated with major TV or movie personalities. He is probably best known for his role as the more polished farmer on the hit television comedy series "Green Acres," which ran on CBS from 1965 to 1971. FUTURE FARMER: While we're on the subject: how about "Green Acres?" Do you think it helped or hurt the farmer's image.
One of the big problems I'm trying to work on is that the general public views those farmers as "inferior". ALBERT: I think it was an outgrowth of my lifelong interest in conservation that led me into problems facing the farmer. He will, of course, take his share of the cost, but soil conservation is a national problem, not a farmer's problem. It is an economic problem for the whole for centuries to come.
America doesn't realize it, but what we do to the farmer, we do to ourselves. We are going to pay the bigmouth as well as the farmer, in production and. Chicago wouldn't be there if it weren't for agriculture. Our great universities, our art museums would not exist without agriculture.
