Parenting Sense of Competence and Smartphone Addiction on Mother with Early Childhood Child in Indonesia

ABSTRACT
This study aimed to examine the relationship between parenting sense of competence (PSOC) and smartphone addiction (SA) on mother who have early childhood child in Indonesia. In addition, to see the differences between parenting sense of competence and smartphone addiction on mother, in terms of age, education level, and different professions. This study used quantitative methods with the Pearson correlation test analysis technique and ANOVA test. Data was collected through a survey using a measuring instrument in the form of a questionnaire, namely the PSOC-scale from Gibaud-Wallston &
Wandersman (1978) and SAS developed by Kwon et al.(2013). Self-report to collect socio- demographic data of age, income, education, number of early childhood children and profession, was also carried out in data collection. A total of 217 mothers who have children aged 3-8 years old participated in this study. The result of the correlation test showed that there was a negative and significant relationship of 0.427 between PSOC and SA. The results of the ANOVA test showed that there were differences between PSOC and SA by age category. Then, there was a difference in SA on the work side, and finally, there were no differences between PSOC and SA when it comes to the level of education of mother. The result of this research can be used to improve the quality of parenting in Indonesia.
