Judul Skripsi: The effectiveness of using scanning technique in reading comprehension (pre-experimental study on eighth grade at SMPN 1 Tibussan Satap Kabupaten Luwu). The effectiveness of using scanning technique in reading comprehension (pre-experimental study on eight grade of SMPN 1 Tibussan Satap Kabupaten Luwu). Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, Makassar Muhammadiyah University (supervised by Ummi Khaerati Syam and Muh.Saeful Said). This study aimed to find out the improvement of the students' reading comprehension by using a scanning technique that focused on literal comprehension. This study consisted of a pre-experimental design with a pre-test and a post-test design by one group.

There were two variables. The independent variable was the use of scanning technique and the dependent variable was students' literal comprehension in reading activities in the second grade of SMPN 1 tibussan kabupaten luwu. The findings of the research showed that the students of SMPN 1 tibussan kabupaten luwu had a low score in the pre-test. The result of the research was the average score of literal reading that the students obtained with the pre-test was 69 and the post-test was 77.2 with the Literal t-test value being higher than the t-table (7.8> 2.08 ).

This indicated that the alternative hypothesis (H1) was accepted and the null hypothesis (H0) was rejected. It was concluded that the use of scanning technique in reading English activity increases the students' reading comprehension in report text precisely in identifying specific information. Saeful Said, S.Pd., M.Pd, for their time, guidance, valuable help, correction and suggestions for the completion of this thesis.

Laila et al (2011) When learning English, reading is one of the most important skills that students need to master to acquire a language proficiency because; the success of learning any subject depends on the reading skills. The same applies to the English language: understanding the text or books will facilitate students' English language. A handbook is a medium for transferring knowledge that is very commonly used at an academic level (Djiwandono, et al. 2009).

The first find out what is contained in the book, read the table of contents and conclude about the content of the book according to the topic you are looking for. Second, to determine more clearly the charge content of the books, could be the first condition above, you still want to know more specifically if the topic you are looking for will be discussed in the book. Follow the reference pages in the index and read the page to determine if it really is the information you are looking for.

These paragraphs, especially the last sections, generally guide the content overview in the following sections of the chapter. On subtitles you will get a more complete picture of the contents of that chapter.

Review of reading

Encourage students to respond to the content of the text (reading explores their feelings about it). In addition to giving the students a chance to practice and understand the content of the text. The average score of the students in pre-test was 69 and post-test that would be 77.2.

The findings of the research showed that in the reading comprehension of the students using the scanning technique, the improvement of the reading comprehension of the students in the text is shown. This can be shown from the students' reading tests in the pre-test and post-test. However, the student's reading comprehension is in the posttest that the reading comprehension content could understand.

Average score of students in pre-test and post-test in reading comprehension Pre-test: = Σ. The average score of the students in the pre-test and post-test in reading for interpretive comprehension Pre-test: = Σ.

Reading comprehension

After the pre-test was given, the researcher administered treatments to the students using the scanning technique. The students' reading score in the pretest was low, especially in finding the main idea of the test. Description of the data collection through the reading test as explained in the previous section of the findings of the students' achievement after using the scan.

The students' mean score of pre-test and post-test in reading for literal comprehension and interpretive comprehension. The students' scores from pre-test and post-test, gain/difference between the matched pairs (D), and square of the gain.

Technique of data analysis

The research findings that teaching reading comprehension through scanning technique used scanning technique in reading comprehension and literal comprehension and also could increase students' reading comprehension in interpretive sense. Students' literal reading comprehension using the scanning technique was different in the pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test, the students' achievement in reading comprehension was less in understanding the main idea, but after applying the scanning technique used, the students were more understanding in the main idea, this can be clearly seen in table 4.1.

Discussion

Based on the above problem, the writer addressed by using such a scanning technique that the students could show improvement after the test. Almost everyone was confused and spent a lot of time thinking about the meaning of the word in the text they read. When using the scanning technique in a reading activity, the writer found that the average achievement score of the students after the test was higher than before the test.

Therefore, the author indicated that there was a significant improvement after the use of scanning technique in the treatment. I kept thinking she was a ghost at the end of the bed, so I stayed for my mom then. My cousin and I played soccer in front of the house to pass time with us.

Then the owner of the house came out of the fence, he shouted at us.
