Further details on the development of the chapter's wildlife refuge can be found on page 14 in the article "AWildlife Refugeonthe Prairie." I read the stories and was particularly interested in the article called "He Works with the Youth." I think this man, Mike Read, should be beat back for the good jobs he has done for the Peace Corps. At the end of the year I had another comprehensive examination on the FFA, and Doyle was the top student with 150 points out of a possible score of 154."

A man of lesser qualities would have changed his to mine to win the competition." Jones, "All the work was done on the farm site to give both children and adults from an urban environment the opportunity to see animals and pets to give."

Traveling in a near-polar orbit 560 miles high, the spacecraft takes pictures of Earth every 18 days, an average of about 190 scenes a day. And despite the failure of one of the spacecraft's two tape recorders and the shutdown of the RBV system, ERTS-1 is still sending back valuable information. 34;One of the greatest benefits for agriculture, natural resources and forestry is the repeated coverage of ERTS,".

The forecasts were within 3 percent of pre-harvest estimates prepared by the Statistical Reporting Service (SRS). ERTS images of Alaska's Seward Peninsula were used to identify seven types of vegetation, of which only four species were previously known. Range condition data obtained from ERTS will be especially valuable to the 400,000 farm and ranch owners in the Great Plains, which produce more than 40 percent of the nation's beef.

Since geology depends almost entirely on maps, features of the Earth's crust – folds, faults, intrusions – are unknown. NASA engineers in the control center at Goddard Space Flight Center monitor the status of the ERTS-I orbit. As far as one can visualize, space exploration of Earth's natural resources will have a great impact on yours.

34;We are looking for Galen to become one of the outstanding purebred Chester White breeders in the Midwest," said Norris FFA Advisor Larry Viterna.

Your tractor loader, one of the most commonly used pieces of equipment in the livestock industry, will last longer if you use these suggestions. When the loader is in use, the weight is transferred from the rear wheels to the front wheels of the tractor. Make sure the basket can accommodate concrete blocks, wheel weights or any other heavy items you have at your disposal.

The total weight of the trailer basket will be limited by the capacity of the tractor's trailer hitch. With this arrangement, all that is required to add the last weight is to lift back onto the basket, attach the drawbar and lift the basket as if it were. The tractor tread should be set as wide as possible in line with the shed door or other openings through which you will be driving.

Hydraulic System. Machinery specialists point out that dirt is one of the biggest enemies of a loader's hydraulic system. There are some small passages in the control valve. It only takes a small amount of dirt to block these passages enough to cause the charger to malfunction. Clean the hydraulic connections before mounting or dismounting when installing or removing the loader from the tractor.

This has the same effect on the pump as when the system contains little liquid. Therefore, consult your manual to determine if your charger has an inlet screen.

WE'RE LOOKING FOR A FEW GOOD MEN

In the fall of 1972, the chapter began to fill this need in its area by organizing the StetJunior pig farmers' association. After the organizational meeting, the Stet Junior Swine Breeders invited their sires to the next meeting to set the standards for the pigs in the test. Requirements for boars and gilts include eligibility for registration, a starting weight of approximately 60 pounds, records of birth dates and test dates, feeding regulations and a final weight of approximately 220 pounds.

Ronnie Brock, the Missouri star farmer of 1973, and his brother Kerwin, working in partnership, tested 26 pigs that first year. Other members with a large number of pigs tested that first year were Terry Vantrump with 12 and Randy Flickwith 11. About two months after the testing program was completed, the StetJunior Pig Breeders Association held their first auction. The results of the September auction illustrate the enthusiasm shared by breeders in the area.

The bear had an adjusted waist circumference of 5.51, an average daily gain of 1.95 pounds between 60 and 200 pounds, and an adjusted back fat thickness of 0.83 inches for an overall index of 207.5. The gilt gold, sold by RandyFlick with a back fat thickness of 0.95 inches, also sold for $360. Brock, for example, reports: "The tests helped decide which of the pigs would offer us the best potential for improvement."

Rex Layman, who tested three boars and sold one in the first sale for $225, emphasized the importance of continuing the sonoray testing program.

The pivot points of the link that controls the bucket throw should be adjusted regularly for ease of operation. All bolts and screws connecting the loader to the tractor should be checked regularly.

This can cause the loader to actually push the front and rear of the tractor apart. Stopping a heavy load suddenly after it has gained momentum can cause damage to the loader or tractor. Bluff High School in Tennesee, Phillip Blankenship was interested in attending college while also wanting to start farming full-time.

His love for farming prevailed and Phil, an American Farmer diploma holder, is now a full-fledged dairy farmer. Another of his high-yielding animals was named grand champion of the open show at the Mid-South Fair, where he competed with cattle from Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Arkansas, Kentucky and Tennessee. Phil was a member of the Beech Bluff Dairy Judging team, coached by consultant David Crossno, that won first place in the district and West Tennessee and second place in the state competition.

In 1874, Joseph FarwellGlidden of DeKalb, Illinois received a patent for "barbed wire," an invention farmers used to protect their crops and homesteads from cattle and buffalo roaming the plains, and the Old West was never the same. All three of the three barbed wires shown below were patented five years later, in 1879 — the same year that the Justin company was founded.

Baity Chapter of Pylesville, Maryland, hosts what they call an "outing." The outing begins with tours of the department's farmland, with FFA members serving as guides and speakers. The tours end at the school pond, where a picnic meal is provided and games are held between classes.

Therefore, theme, decoration, and special event committees will need to work with other committees—especially invitations and public relations. Banquet supplies – disposable FFA plates and cups, printed programs and napkins – should be ordered from the National FFA Supply Service approximately two months prior to the actual date of the banquet. This will avoid the rush and give your banquet committee more time for final preparations.

Current SCS Supervisor John Knecht reports, “One senator thought a lot about the project for which he donated money for trees.” Trees planted by members included wild apple, buffalo berry, Russian olive, dogwood, spruce, pine, cedar and plum. As they continued to develop the preserve, Central Valley members planted sunflowers and canary grass for cover for wildlife. The chapter also purchased and released pheasants at the refuge and posted “No Hunting” signs. 34;In addition to serving as a wildlife refuge, the area also serves as an outdoor classroom, says Lyle Rose, vocational agriculture instructor.
