Using Tic Tac Toe Game to Improve Students' Vocabulary (Pre-Experimental Study of Eighth Grade SMPN 3 Bontonompo). The results showed that the value of the average score in the pre-test was 34.5, and the average score of the post-test was 80.5. It can be concluded that students' vocabulary increased after treatment with tic tac toe games.
This was also proven by the results of the t-value based on the results of the t-test. In other words, the use of the Tic Tac Toe game was effective in improving students' vocabulary. The teacher spoke formally in front of the class, gave various explanations, read information from the book, showed materials and asked students to translate some texts. The students do not understand what the teacher said when they speak English and they struggle to remember the new vocabulary they have learned. This could be seen on the basis of the preliminary observation made in VIII.3 class of SMPN 3 Bontonompo. were the learning outcomes and competency standards achieved by students in each material. One of the interesting games is Tic Tac Toe game. Tic-Tac-Toe game is one of creative techniques to attract the students' interest in learning activity.
In accordance with the background of the study, the problem of the study is "Is the use of Tic Tac Toe game effective in improving students' vocabulary in terms of Noun, Verb, Adjective. Regarding the problem, is the purpose of the study to find out ― Whether the use of Tic Ta Toe is effective in improving students' vocabulary in terms of Noun, Verb, Adjective. In addition, the findings can be references for further study. Practical The finding of the research that is hopefully used for the students will improve their vocabulary every day whatever they want so that they can easily speak English or understand about English words.
The author also hopes that this research will be useful for school, student and English teachers, especially of the students in SMPN 3 BONTONOMPO. To limit this study, the author only focused on the application of Tic-Tac-Toe game to improve students' vocabulary in terms of verb, noun and adjective.

Vocabulary can be defined as '' words we need to know to communicate effectively; words in speaking (expressive vocabulary) and words in listening (receptive vocabulary)'' (Neuman& Dwyer 2009: 385). From the definitions above, it can be concluded that vocabulary is a list of words or the total number of words needed to communicate ideas and express the speakers' meaning. Therefore, productive vocabulary can be addressed as an active process, because the learners can produce the words to express their thoughts to others.
The teacher gives such a real thing in the class, so the word can be easily explained. From the above explanations, it can be concluded that tic tac toe is a game played using a board or paper by drawing 9 or 12 squares by two players who take turns marking the space in a 3x3 grid, trying to place three of their own . marks ("X" or "O") in a horizontal, vertical or diagonal line. According to Agustia&Amri, the characteristic of the game Tic Tac Toe is played by two players, where one player represents nothing (o) and the other player represents the cross (x).
Harmer (1993: 3) claims that: "Motivation is a kind of internal drive that encourages someone to take an action... The motivation that students bring to class is the biggest factor that affects their success. The instrument of the study which was a test aims to find out the vocabulary score of the students. By calculating the collection data from the students in answering the test, the researcher uses formula to get the average score of the students as follows:. The students' improved X1: Average score of the pretest X2: Average score of the posttest.
Find the significant difference between the pre-test and post-test scores using the formula: To know the percentage of students' improvement in vocabulary, it can be seen in Figure 4.1. In terms of verb, none of the students 0.00% classified in very good, good and fair, 20.0% classified in poor score, 80.0% classified in very poor score.
To see whether or not there was a significant difference between the pre- and post-test results of the students, the T-test had to be applied. It means that there was a significant difference between the students' pre-test and post-test result. The vocabulary of the students was supported by the average score of the students in the pre- and post-tests. The vocabulary score in terms of noun in the pre-test was 38.1 (very bad) and in the post-test was 83.75 (good).
After completing in-class treatment for six sessions implementing the Tic Tac Toe game. From the comparison of the results of pre-test and post-test scores in the experimental class, the skills in the experimental class became higher. It is proved by the result of data analysis from the mean score and standard deviation from the pretest and posttest.
FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS
Discussions
Before using Tic Tac Toe in the vocabulary learning process, students were unable to answer the vocabulary test. Student scores were very different before and after using Tic Tac Toe to teach vocabulary. On the other hand, students' vocabulary text in the post-test was better than the pre-test.
The first session was the students playing tic tac toe while discussing the English vocabulary material in class, the second session was the students giving a descriptive example about my friend, then the students were asked to name the vocabulary terms of noun, verb and adjective. Therefore, this means that the application of the Tic Tac Toe game in the treatment of SMPN 3 Bontonompo students has succeeded in making the students recognize and distinguish the types of nouns, verbs and adjectives. Through the Tic Tac Toe game, students could learn without feeling bored, depressed or sleepy in class because students felt challenged to answer the questions given to win the game.
There were some findings that support the findings of this study, the first, from Chalim (2010) he found that using Tic Tac Toe game can develop students' understanding in learning simple past tense. The second was Jabbar (2015) found that Tic Tac Toe games were effective in developing speaking skills of students in. Hidayati (2015) found that there was a significant effect on the use of Tic Tac Toe games to students' speaking skills in the eleventh grade of 1 MAN Praya.
The fourth was Hanormand (2015) found that contributions of Tic Tac Toe games and flash cards can develop students' vocabulary at EFL zero beginners' vocabulary learning. From the explanation above, it can be concluded that used tic tac toe game was effective in improving the students' vocabulary As said by Susanto that there are some techniques for teaching vocabulary that they use realia, which the pictures, mime, show action and gestures, summary, explanation or definition, translation and play. Based on the findings in chapter IV, it can be concluded that teaching English through Tic Tac Toe game is effective in improving the students' vocabulary in terms of noun, verb and adjective at the eighth grade of SMPN 3 to improve Bontonompo.
Regarding the research result, then it is suggested that English teachers should be able to consider the use of Tic Tac Toe game in teaching English, especially in teaching vocabulary.
