Praise be to Allah for the blessings of His grace so that we can complete this handout entitled "Academic Speech". The handout is intended for students who want to develop their speaking skills in an academic context. This handbook has been compiled with input from a number of external parties and the parties themselves.

And also because the help and assistance of Allah Almighty, this distribution can be completed. The handout also comes with exercises and drills that will help students understand the material easily. We hope that the material in this handout will encourage students to practice English and allow teachers, trainers and students to use it as a guidebook in the classroom or individual study.

Finally, we expect that the teachers, trainers and students who use this handout will find it useful and perhaps even more so. As always, we hope and appreciate any suggestions or critics who support this giveaway for better editions in the years to come.

Definition of Speaking

Speaking for academic purposes is a catch-all term and is used to describe spoken language in various academic settings. For professional purposes speaking is necessary to learn some new/useful phrases, to meet people working in the same area to get the know-how on how to be an academic speaker, to talk about specialized problems and to listen to other colleagues. Speaking for academic purposes, according to Jordan (1997), is a general term used to describe spoken language in various academic settings.

It is similar to writing: whatever you want to discuss during the oral presentation, plan it well. If you have a lot of things to say, such as what you do in writing, you should spend more time preparing your talk. If you read the written text to your audience, no one will listen or understand what you are saying.

Well, we will learn part by part of the workshop development in the classroom. In case the discussion is opened, you can share your idea or ask questions about what you noticed.

Features of Academic Spoken English

Making decisions about a specific topic, giving boundaries to the topic and strengthening the claims of the opinion are essential things in presenting academic speech. Presentation is the practice of showing and explaining the content of the subject to the audience. This brings me to the end of my presentation, I will be happy to answer any questions.

The "body" of the presentation (middle part) is when the audience is usually most attentive. The most critical thing to remember about the "opening" of your presentation is that you must convey to the audience how important the topic is to you. Most business presentations should end with questions from the audience..the presentation is over when the last question is answered.

You can pass the question back to the speaker who is an expert to explain what they mean. Does anyone have anything else to say before we move on to the next point. The difficulties that arose due to online learning, especially related to infrastructure and teacher capacity, led various parties to call on the government to improve the quality of learning from home.

If you go to the police and tell the story, you break yours.

DETECTIVE STORY

The next day, while my father was parking his car, he saw a dog carrying a purse in its mouth. The detective was still interrogating the man and he asked him what was in the wallet and the young man did not think for a second and said that two tickets and a photo of him. They gave him the wallet and he gave meat and bones to the dog to say thanks.

INTERVIEWS

  • Kinds of Talk Show
  • Talk Show Purpose
  • Talk Show Technique a. Opening
  • Interviewing Technique in a Talk Show a. Make a list of questions
  • Definition of Seminar
  • Seminar Procedure

The main concept of the interview is to build rapport with the interviewer and demonstrate how the qualifications will benefit their organization. The interviewee should maintain eye contact and respond to all questions from the interviewer. Exit interviews are conducted to create a good image of the company among the employees who leave the company.

Make sure you know the time, date and location of the interview and the name of the interviewee. Timberg in the book Television Talk, A History Of The TV Talk Show (Timberg, 2002:5) reveals that the television talk show program has principles or rules. Everything related to the subject of the source person should be taken into account starting from the character, diction gestures, intonation and tone of voice of the source person.

The resource person must be able to choose diction when speaking so that the audience or listeners do not misinterpret the intention of the speaker's speech. Its content concentrates on specific topics in the political or social sphere, or on a person who was the target of the news at the time. To secure facts about the topic currently being discussed among the public through questions posed by the presenter to the speakers.

The host opens the program as usual - providing the name, program, duration, topic, and the names and brief biographical information of the persons participating in the resources. At the end of the talk show, the presenter gives conclusions, summaries or important notes, then thanks and closing greetings. Don't direct the interviewee on what questions to ask - it will only hurt them to think of the best answer.

What is your opinion about this?" (This is an opinion, not a question. The interviewee will be confused about the answer, or he/she might simply say, "Yes, that's how it is..."). Because the essence of a seminar is a discussion, the seminar report is also a report of the results of the discussion. What is the answer to the questions asked, or what is the core message of the article (or chapter) that the author(s) are trying to send to the readers.

What are the potentially positive benefits that the authors themselves cite, the key message of the text. What are the strengths and limitations of the paper that you would like to highlight.

CONFERENCE

  • The Purpose of Holding a conference
  • The characteristics of a Conference
  • Kinds of Conference a. Press Conference

A conference is a forum for meetings or gatherings to negotiate or exchange views on a problem we face together. Another understanding of a conference is the negotiation or consultation of an issue to achieve goals of common interest. The essence of the conference is the exchange of opinions, which triggers the creation of innovative ideas and the exchange of information between the conference participants.

From the meeting, it is hoped that certain problems can be solved, one of which is assisted by the presentation of research results. Not just any speaker but influential figures in their fields so they could attract the attention of many people to attend the conference. Many of the high-ranking professionals who attended the conference indicated that they still have a passion for learning.

One of the other characteristics that cannot be separated from the conference is its formal nature. A press conference is an activity that invites journalists to dialogue, with material carefully prepared by the leader of the meeting, while the objectives of the meeting are expected to be published by the mass media of invited journalists (Soemirat & Ardianto. Case conferences are supporting or supplementary activities in Guidance and Counseling to discuss student problems (counselors) in a meeting, which is attended by parties who can provide information, comfort and commitment to solve student problems (counselors).

Generally, the conference will include keynote speakers (often scholars from various universities, but sometimes individuals from outside academia). Apart from presentations, the conference also features panel discussions, round tables on various issues, poster sessions and workshops. Work in groups and please make a poster presentation discussing each of the book chapters in this book (8 poster presentations in total).

Speaking of education - I'd like to see all the second wave free schools in poorer neighborhoods. In 2017, she was a lecturer at the Surabaya State University (UNESA) international symposium. His passion for teaching and education earned him a 2014 Fulbright scholarship to pursue a master's degree, and by the end of 2015 he had earned a master's degree in English teaching.
