This research was a qualitative research, involving ten students from the third semester of the English Education Department at IAIN Metro. Most of the problems faced by the student were caused by the cultural differences between English and Bahasa Indonesia, the change in tense and pronouns, also the large amount of vocabulary of Bahasa Indonesia.

INTRODUCTION INTRODUCTION

Background of The Research

The majority of the students did not even pass the minimum passing mark of the test given by the researcher. The result of the data analysis of the third semester students' translation of grammatical equivalence at IAIN Metro in the academic year of.

Focus of The Research

Based on the data in the table above, we can see that out of ten students, most of the six students get 'bad' results. Regarding the above explanation, the researcher feels that it is necessary to conduct a research that focuses on students' difficulties in translating grammatical equivalence from English to Bahasa Indonesia for the third semester English Education Department at the State Institute for Islamic Studies ( IAIN) of Metro.

Problem Formulation

What factors cause the difficulties of the students in translating grammatical equivalence for the third semester English education department of IAIN Metro. How do the students of the third semester English teaching department of IAIN Metro overcome their difficulties in translating grammatical equivalence from English to Indonesian.

Objectives and Benefits of The Research 1. Objectives of the Research

  • Benefits of the Research a. For the Lecturer

The result of this research can be used by the teacher to provide an evaluation of teaching translation, in particular on grammatical equivalence. By reading this article, the students are expected to be able to increase their understanding of translations and grammatical equivalence in particular.

Prior Research

The second previous research was taken from the undergraduate thesis written by Bunayya Dzikrullah titled "Word, Above Word, And Grammatical Equivalence in the Subtitle of Troy". The two previous researches above, "The issue of grammatical equivalence in translation", and "Word, super-word, and grammatical equivalence in the subtitle of Troy", they analyze the equivalence in translation from the grammatical aspect of English – Bahasa Indonesia using various classifications.

RESEARCH METHOD RESEARCH METHOD

Type and Characteristics of Research

In accordance with the above explanation, it can be deduced that the limitation of the case study consists of: (1) the target of the study can be people, even setting and documents; (2) the target is examined thoroughly, based entirely on the setting or any context, with a view to understanding any correlations between the variables. It can be assumed that the case study approach aims to preserve the object of the study as a whole, after which all the collected data is fully learned.

Data Resource

Data Collecting Technique

  • Documentation
  • Observation
  • Interview

In this study, the researcher used a guided interview where the researcher gave some questions prepared for the participant and the researcher recorded the answers. The researcher interviewed 10 students out of 40 students to collect data on the use of grammatical equivalence in the translation class of IAIN Metro's fifth semester English Education Department.

Data Analysis Technique

  • Data Collection
  • Data Reduction
  • Data Display
  • Drawing and Verifying Conclusion

In the intermediate stages, this happens through coding and memoing, and associated activities such as finding themes, clusters and patterns. In the later stages, this happens through conceptualization and explanation, since developing abstract concepts is also a way of reducing data. Data display is the main part. The concept of data visualization aims to convey the idea that data is presented as an organized, compressed collection of information that allows conclusions to be drawn analytically.

General Description of Research Data

  • Students’ Difficulties in Translating Grammatical Equivalence
  • DSI √ - √ - 2
  • Students’ Interview Report

Developing students' privacy through knowledge, strengthening and actualization of religious, national and civil life in Islamic culture. In data collection, the researcher used student documents to analyze the problems faced by the students. Students have to translate a text from English to Bahasa Indonesian and analyze it.

The researcher also used the interview to find out the factors that cause students' difficulties in translating grammatical equivalence. The words dead-end approaches were correctly translated by all students into the yang buntu approach. Therefore, the correct translation of the words that were rarely involved would be sudah srangang englad.

The students apparently had some difficulties in translating this category, because most of the students translated this sentence incorrectly. From the data above, we can see that the students did not encounter difficulties when translating the voice category, because the researcher did not find any mistakes in the students' translation. All students translated this correctly; faced with translates to dihadapkan dengan, not dihadapkan dengan or dihadapkan dengan.

The researcher confirmed the student's difficulty in translating number category by looking at the example above. Theories and methods, which had to be translated into various theories and methods, were instead translated by students into theory-theory and method-method. As explained before, the words that have rarely been involved should mean sudah zangang, not just zangang.

To translate none of them into tidak ada satupun is included in less accurate category, because it omits the person category itself in the target language.

The words looked at in the sentence above should be translated into yang telah diuji as it refers to the theories and methods. The student translated the words being looked at into the most basic form of yang telah kita lihat, because looking at actually means melihat. This demonstrates the student's poor vocabulary as she should have looked at the more appropriate alternative.

  • Discussion

There were five categories that will cause students to have difficulty translating grammatical equivalence. The huge amount of vocabulary in Bahasa Indonesia as the target language leaves the students confused and it is difficult to find the equivalence of the source language in the target language. Other factors, such as the change in the system of tenses and pronouns, may also be the cause of students' difficulties in translating grammatical equivalence.

The addition of knowledge about grammatical equivalence can be done by the lecturer and the student himself. The result of this research concludes that the students of the third semester English Education Department of IAIN Metro had difficulties in translating grammatical equivalence in person category (50%), number category (80%) and time category (90%). The common factors that cause the problems in the translation of grammatical equivalence that the students of the English Education Department face are the students' poor vocabulary and their lack of knowledge about the cultural difference between English and Bahasa.

From this research, students are suggested to learn from the mistakes they make, to be aware of the types of mistakes they make, their causes and how to avoid them. We suggest that lecturers take this research into account when evaluating their journey in teaching translation, especially in terms of grammatical equivalence. In relation to the research, the head of the Department of English Education is suggested to add quantitative time in lectures related to the teaching and learning of grammatical equivalence.

APPENDICES

Out of the 5 categories of grammatical equivalence (number, gender, person, tense and voice), which one(s) do you have difficulty with? Machine translation developers (who are purely computer scientists and linguists) have proposed and experimented with various approaches, but none of them seem to have been able to provide the right answer. Now that machine translation has become an undeniably valid technology, it's time for translation experts to come forward and give their input to solve the problem Machine translation is booming, human translators are doomed.

Incredibly, yet inevitably, machine translation (MT) is becoming a global industry in this computerized era.
