CASE STUDY NARRATIVE
Nelson is the son of a Cavendish farmer in Oelmasi Village. Every afternoon after finishing school at the junior high school near his house, he often helps his father grow crops in their field. Nelson's father wanted to plant Cavendish bananas or often called Ambon white bananas on his own land area of 1 hectaes. Before planting, they first sow the seeds until they sprout and are about 1 metres
high. While waiting for the seeds to be ready for planting, Nelson and his father prepared the land by making planting holes measuring 25x25x25 cm and then sprinkled with 1 kg of manure per planting hole. One week after preparing the planting holes, they
planted about 50 trees in their land with a distance of 1-2 meters per planting hole. Two weeks after planting, Nelson and his father again fertilized the plants using NPK fertilizer, Puradon, and manure. After months, Nelson returned to his field to see his Cavendish plant. There are about 30 trees that have been fruitful with 4-7 combs per bunch, there are 5 trees that are waterlogged and dead,
and the rest have not yet produced fruit. When the bananas are ripe, they are harvested and sold. The sales results were not as expected because the selling price was only Rp. 8,000-10,000 per comb. Therefore, the father and son decided to go to SMK PP N Kupang, which is close to their house, to inquire about it because it was known that the boarding school had expertise in food crops
and horticulture agribusiness programs.
