RESEARCH METHOD

After the treatment, a post-test was administered to determine the students' reading comprehension. It was used to check the results of treatments; it would also be useful to know whether the persistent silent reading method is effective in improving students' reading comprehension. Research findings address the use of sustained silent reading to improve reading comprehension, which consists of improving students' literal and interpretive comprehension.

The date shows the rate percentage and frequency of the students' pretest in reading comprehension. This means that the use of sustained silent reading is effective in improving students' literal reading comprehension. In other words, using the Sustained Silent Reading method is effective in improving students' literal reading comprehension.

This is evidenced by the fact that the average score of the students on the post-test is 6.75 and it is classified as good. In other words, the use of Sustained Silent Reading is effective in improving students' interpretive skills in reading comprehension. It means that, after using the Sustained Silent Reading method, the student's reading comprehension improves.

In another type, the following graphic is designed to show students' improvement in reading comprehension. Three levels of reading comprehension are researched; students' reading comprehension, literal, interpretive level. The description of data collected through testing as explained in the previous section shows that students' reading comprehension improves significantly.

The result of the students' performance on the literal comprehension level above indicates that the students have an improvement in recognizing the literal statements in the text. According to the results, the students' reading comprehension for levels improved because the application of the Sustained Silent Reading method and the teacher also developed reading comprehension questions. In addition, based on the research results, the performance of students taught using the Sustained Silent Reading method is better than the use of a conventional way.

The application of Sustained Silent Reading method to improve the students' reading comprehension more significantly in the eleventh grade students of SMPN 3 Pallangga.
