Capstone Experience (1-3 cr.)

The capstone course is generally taken in a student's major as a cumulative integrative experience that covers the principles of undergraduate education as well as the values ​​and ethics pertinent to a student's major.

Communications Core (19 cr.)

Basic Courses

Natural Science (9-11 cr.): This field enables the selection of courses that deal with the natural phenomena of the world according to models of scientific thought. Arts and Humanities (6 cr.): This area presents knowledge of aesthetics, ideas and value systems.

Students from other IUPUI schools may complete minors at the IU School of Liberal Arts. The IU School of Liberal Arts allows students to complete dual majors and dual degrees.

Certificates

Students must receive departmental or program approval for the courses to be used toward the minor as well as approval of courses not taken at IUPUI that they wish to count toward a minor. Students must fulfill the requirements for each of the two majors as well as all other school requirements for a degree.

American Sign Language/English Interpreting

1 Students interested in receiving credit for lower language courses, see the section ''Special credit for foreign language studies.''. These courses can be used for Comparative World Cultures and another requirement if it appears on the Arts and Humanities, Social Sciences, or History lists.

Theatre and Performance

While most students work on one degree at a time, a student can work on two degrees simultaneously at two different schools at IUPUI (for example, a B.A. from Indiana University in English and a B.S. from Purdue University in Psychology). Students with fewer than 55 credits must consult with the Undergraduate Certificate in Theater and Performance Program coordinator.

Technical Communication

This is a sample list of electives. To enroll in the undergraduate theater and performance program, IUPUI students must do two things: 1) complete an application form in the School of Liberal Arts Office of Student Affairs (Cavanaugh Hall 401) and 2) complete this application form and mail it to the Office of Communication Studies (Cavanaugh Hall 309). Apply for undergraduate admission at IUPUI with a theater and performance certificate as your goal.

Geographic Information Science

Museum Studies

Before enrolling in the Undergraduate Museum Studies Certificate Program, IUPUI students must have completed 55 credit hours of undergraduate studies with a minimum GPA of 2.0 and must have declared a major field of study. Once enrolled in the undergraduate program, they must meet with their museum studies advisor to develop a curriculum.

Paralegal Studies

The Undergraduate Museum Studies Certificate consists of a core of four courses (12 cr.) and a choice of two additional courses (6 cr.) from a list of museum studies courses. Electives not on the list of approved electives must be approved by the museum's director of studies prior to registration.

American Humanics

Museum Methods (9 cr.): MSTD A405 and two electives, at least one of which must be a museum studies course; the other may be an approved elective from another department. Museum Internship: (3 cr.): 3 credits required in a museum internship (MSTD A408 or a discipline-based internship such as ANTH 412 conducted in a museum and with a museum studies faculty advisor.

Economics

Provides students with the opportunity to develop communication knowledge and competencies applicable to a wide variety of for-profit and not-for-profit organizations. Students will consider the classical foundations of the study of rhetoric and have the opportunity to critically and carefully evaluate persuasive messages from a variety of perspectives.

Business

In both options, students will gain an understanding and appreciation of media as conveyors of meaning, cultural artifacts, and art forms. Students pursuing a minor in rhetorical studies will gain an understanding of symbols and symbolic forms and how they influence human behavior.

Business and Professional Writing

English courses must comprise at least 10 credits of the minor; students are encouraged to take 3-6 credit hours outside of English. Students must have an average of 2.5 or higher across the 15 credit hours of the minor and a minimum grade of C in each course for the minor.

Geography

Students pursuing this minor should work with a faculty advisor in planning their coursework and developing their writing portfolios. Students must enroll in this course the semester they complete the minor or the following semester; students can work with the faculty advisor informally before taking the portfolio course.

Admissions

If you are subsequently accepted into our program, those credits will retroactively count toward the completion of your MA. If you are in your final year, please submit your most recent transcript with your application.

Applied Communication

Letters can be sent electronically in the application or sent directly to the postal address below. Applicants who wish to begin courses prior to their admission to the Graduate School may do so through.

Master of Arts in the Teaching of Spanish (M.A.T.)

Note: GRE general test is not required but highly recommended for admission to the program. The application fee can be submitted by credit card at the end of the online application.

Certificate Programs

Students who do not achieve this score may be conditionally admitted to the University and may be required to take English as a Second Language courses through the English Department. Students whose admission package is incomplete or whose GPA and/or GRE scores do not fully meet our expectations may be conditionally admitted to the program.

Teaching Writing

Applications for admission to the program (without financial support) will be reviewed throughout the year, but it is recommended that fall applications be submitted no later than the end of June, and spring applications no later than the end of November. Also, students who apply late or before they have taken their GRE may be accepted as non-degree graduate students.

Professional Editing

The following courses may be used to fulfill requirements in both programs.: H543 Internship: Public History Practicum with Museum Focus (4 cr.) will count as equivalent to MSTD A508. Two electives (6 cr.) chosen from a list of approved electives, one of which must be an MSTD course.

TESOL

In addition, HIST H542 Public History (4 cr.) and any HIST H547 Special Topics in Public History (3 cr.) class are approved electives for the graduate museum studies curriculum, and students may use up to two museum studies courses as electives in his requirements for a master's degree in history. American Philosophy and Bioethics

Others may choose to complete the certificate in conjunction with a professional degree in medicine, science, nursing, health sciences, or law.
