Aside from the obvious impact of the planned education on the local economy, nationally, the job market for graduates with doctorates in computer science is expected to grow by 17.1%, according to the U.S. A Memorandum of Understanding was approved by the Computer Science Department at Purdue University and the CIS department that paved the way for the admission of Ph.D. Firstly, the continued "mission-driven" development of the current Ph.D. program in the CIS department, drawing on the proximity of medical, dental, engineering and public health, law, and business schools, provides a distinct but integrated approach to computer science research and education within Indiana's academic landscape.
The CIS department is also actively involved in the newly established “LGRAD” graduate training partnership between the Faculty of Science and Eli Lilly – through this program, eligible and academically acceptable Lilly employees can earn a Ph.D. absentee training with a job guarantee after graduation. Clear attribution of Ph.D. work done at IUPUI on campus, as opposed to a "steward" department, will go a long way toward accurately reflecting IUPUI's role and ongoing activities in the country. The dominant presence of IU's School of Medicine, which is among the largest in the country, the increasing demand for computer science research at the state and national level, the increasing rates of individual faculty research success and recognition (grants and publications), the urban environment, and the relatively low cost of living are the main factors that make the CIS department ideal for offering a site-approved PhD in computer science. at IUPUI. v) Surveys among employers or students and analyzes of job advertisements.

All these aspects are value-creating indirect benefits of a PhD. program that will be approved on the spot. Monitoring of the above parameters will be the responsibility of the department chair, the director of graduate studies and the department's graduate committee. Each year, in the early fall, the recruitment data (items 1 and 2) from the previous year will be collected and summarized.
Each annual cohort is followed through graduation to collect the information for items 9 and 10. The pass rates for the cumulative exams are collected in the summer for the previous year (item 6). To enable a long-term view of career paths, data on students' research productivity, awards and job placements will be tracked for three to five years after graduation (items 7, 8 and 11).

The report and evaluation must be submitted to the Graduate Program Administrator at the end of the semester; the reports will be considered by the Qualifying Examination Part 2 Committee. At least three QCEs must be passed by the end of the third semester. Students wishing to take a QCE must register for the QCE before the end of the 12th week of term.
The Examination Committee for each QCE is appointed by the Chair of the Graduate Committee. The student must pass the oral exam by the end of the fourth semester at the latest. Part 2 can only be taken once the student has completed two research courses and passed at least three of the four written QCEs.
The Graduate Committee reserves the right to appoint a committee and set an examination date for any student who has not completed the qualifying examination by the end of the fourth semester. The Advisory Committee is listed on the study form plan and becomes official upon final approval of the form. The plan of study must be approved by the department's Advisory Committee and Graduate Committee and must be submitted at the end of the semester in which the student completes the qualification process.
Courses from other institutions may be accepted with the approval of the Student Advisory Committee, the Graduate Committee, and the Graduate School. At least one-third of the total credit hours used to fulfill degree requirements must be earned while registered for doctoral studies at IUPUI. The probationary committee usually consists of the student Advisory Committee and one additional member selected by the Graduate Committee.
The examination must be taken no later than the end of the third semester following the semester in which the student completed the qualification process and at least two semesters before the thesis examination. The thesis must be completed at the end of the fourth semester, following the semester in which the student successfully completed the examination.
