The data presented in the table above is about the classification of students' grammatical competences in speaking skills. The data indicate that students' grammatical competence in speaking skills, especially in the use of simple present tense in eleventh grade in SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar, classify to fair. According to the result above, it can be concluded that the students made mistakes in using simple present tense in speech.

In other words, the person speaking has the same meaning and purpose to reveal what he wants directly and others can respond within a short time, as well as the need for appropriate speech, expression and idiom.
According to Yule in Nunan, speech is the use of spoken language which consists of a short, incomplete or special speech in the sphere of pronunciation. The battle is closely related to the mutual relationship between the speaker and the listener. Moreover, Tarigan (1986: 3) comments on the conversation about the ability to speak in articulation sounds or words that support to reject, understand and convey thoughts, to understand and feel the feelings of the person.
Simply put, the purpose of speaking in classrooms should encourage the acquisition of language and communication skills to promote real communication inside and outside the classroom. It is indicated that grammar competence is one of the components that the students should know in order to improve their speaking skills. The students' ability to use grammar in speaking was classified as poor level because the students have difficulties in speaking English. They always get stuck when speaking because they don't know how to use grammar while speaking. The researcher also found out that there were students of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar who spoke well in the target language but did not master the grammar well, and there were also students who had sufficient grammatical awareness but were unable to express themselves verbally to express.
The data showed that a number of students with poor grammar awareness performed well in speaking. This allows the learners to use the target language in an appropriate and meaningful way to meet their communicative needs. An error has been made in the use of grammar, especially the simple present tense when the students are speaking English, such as an error in the placement of are (ben, is, are), verb (e/es) etc.
This result is supported by Simbolon (2015) who found that students' grammatical competence in speaking skills where intra-linguistic interference was the main source of errors (82.55%) where overgeneralization was the main cause of errors with a total percentage of 44.71 % and Soraya (2019) also found that mastery of grammar contributed significantly to speaking ability. In general, the students of SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassar do not use simple present tense when speaking sentences because of the complexity of grammar and lack of vocabulary, which makes students confused about grammatical speaking in English. Based on the above explanation, the researcher can conclude that the grammar competence of the students in public speaking at SMA Muhammadiyah 3 Makassarin in the first semester in the academic years 2021/2022 was categorized as poor level, which means that the students had difficulty in arranging or forming a sentence when they present orally your idea.
This was due to their low ability to use proper grammar to speak English and this was found based on the result of test that deals with the classification of students' score.
