ABSTRACT

NURMIYATI OSE BOLI 2015. Could improve the students’ speaking ability by using cognitive academic language learning approach (CALLA) Method (A Classroom Action Research at Tenth grade students of SMA Gunung Sari Makassar). Under the Thesis English Education Department Faculty of Teacher Training and Education Muhammadiyah University of Makassar. Guided by H. Kaemuddin, and Ummi Khaerati Syam.

The objective of the research is to find out the implementation of Cognitive Academic Language Learning Approach method in improving the students’ speaking ability in term Fluency and Accuracy at Tenth Grade students of SMA Gunung Sari Makassar .

The researcher use Class Action Research (CAR) and had conducted two cycles, where each cycle consists of four meetings. It employed speaking text as instrument.

The number subject of the research is 22 students in class. The researcher took data real from the school to know the students’speaking ability. The result of the student's Speaking test in cycle I and cycle II, where find out there are significant difference scores. There is better increased of gained by students at end of action second cycle.

The means score increased from 5.07 in diagnose test, 5.99 in the first cycle and 7.08in the second, which was categorized good enough.
