REVIEW OF LITERATURE

Some Partinent Ideas

  • Concept of Reading
  • Concept of Translation
  • Concept of Correlation Research

The combination of these can create a simple quick comprehension of the text and allow the reader to search for information and recognize a particular form of graphemes. This means that it is important to consider whether readers of the target text receive equivalent information as readers of the source text. Furthermore, Lawrence (1995) says that translation is the process by which the chain of markers that make up the text in the source language is replaced by the chain of markers in the target language that the translator provides based on the interpretation. 2009) said that a translation is undoubtedly a subjective reading of the original text by one person and is inevitably reflected through the subjectivity of that translator.

In full translation, the whole is submitted to the translation process, that is, every part of the source language text is replaced by textual material. The translator should have knowledge and master the linguistic structure of the source and receptor language. For the last stage, the aim of the restructuring is to get the final acceptable message completely in the receptor or target language.

The translator must try to decide the essence message of the source language and then re-compose it, this means the translator can freely translate text with own words or sentence to provide the most suitable communication in the target language. Acceptability is a target reader approach where a translation follows the norms of the target language (TL) and culture. He said that a message must be expressed in source text in accordance with the structure, norm and culture of the target language.

It is possible because the way the text is expressed is opposite to the structure, norm and culture of the target text.

Conceptual Framework

Hypothesis

While the difference is that there are some things, the first researcher researched the correlation between vocabulary achievement and reading ability of eleventh grade students of MAN 1 Pangkep. The second researcher about the correlation between reading comprehension and translation ability of SMK 5 Pangkep students to know the influence of students' reading comprehension on their translation ability. As it is, if a student just reads aloud but cannot understand the content of the passages, it means that he/she fails to understand the passage.

Readers are sometimes asked to evaluate and critique information from multiple texts or from one long time, requiring them to make decisions about which aspects of the text are most important, most persuasive, or most controversial. Recognizing the main idea of a paragraph is very important because it not only helps you understand the paragraph on the first reading, but also helps you remember the content later. An efficient reader understands not only the ideas but also the relative meaning as expressed by the writer, in other words, some of the ideas are superordinate while others are subordinate.

This means that the reader can develop his guessing ability for the word which, if it is not familiar to him or her, by relating the close meaning of unknown words to the text and the topic of the text being read. There are some considerations that follow this process, which mainly relate to the accuracy, clarity and naturalness of the meaning, ideas or messages in the translation. Conversely, Hatim and Munday (2004) define translation as "the process of transferring a written text from source language (SL) to target language (TL)".

How are you?" (English) “Apa kabar?” (Indonesian) Partial translation leaves some parts of the SL text untranslated Limited translation means replacement of SL text material with equivalent TL text material, only at the phonological or graphological level, or at only one of the two levels of grammar and lexis In this conceptual framework below, the researcher will investigate “The correlation between students' translation ability and reading comprehension”.

RESEARCH METHOD

  • Population and Sample
  • Variable and Indicators
  • Research Instruments
  • Data Collection Procedure
  • Data Analysis Technique

From the calculation about the correlation between reading comprehension and translation ability of the students in the sixth semester of the students of the Department of English at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar, the research result was rxy 0.466, significant (2-tailed) 0.019 and the number of the subject 25 .The calculation result showed that the correlation coefficient between students' translation ability (X) and reading comprehension (Y) was 0.466. The description of the data collected through the test, as explained in the previous section, shows that the students' translation ability and reading comprehension in the Sixth Semester Students of the Department of English Education at Muhammadiyah University of Makassar in the academic year 2019/ 2020 were related.

Three research questions were formulated: (1) student's reading comprehension, (2) student's translation ability (3) correlation of the two. Based on the findings, the result of the calculation showed that the average reading comprehension score of the students was 72.40. Based on the findings, the result of the calculation showed that the average score of the student's translation ability was 78.08.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSION

Discussion

The accuracy of the translation is determined precisely by the correct transmission of the message of the source language. A text can be said accurately if the meaning of the source language is conveyed accurately and there is absolutely no distortion of the meaning. The text may be less accurate if the meaning of the original text is conveyed less accurately.

If the students understand and know the meaning of the words, their translation result will be better. The researcher hopes that the result of the study can be an additional reference to the next study for further research, especially in the field of translation and reading comprehension. Scientists believe that this is the true age of the solar system and probably the true age of the Earth. Which of the following processes led to the obliteration of the craters formed by the bombardment of the Earth by the celestial bodies. According to the passage, why are scientists forced to look at other bodies in the solar system to determine the early history of Earth.

Which of the following bodies has NOT been investigated to prove that Earth was bombarded in early history.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Suggestion

Becoming a Translator An Introduction to Translation Theory and Practice 2nd Edition, New York. In percentage terms, we are forced to look to other bodies in the solar system for clues about what Earth's early history was like. A final ancient way of measuring time was the sundial, which used the movement of the sun across the sky.

The location of stars in the sky in relation to each other does not appear to the naked eye. eye to change, and as a result stars are often considered fixed in position. In reality, however, stars are always moving, but due to the immense distances between stars themselves and from stars to Earth, the changes are hardly perceptible here. An example of a fairly fast-moving star demonstrates why this misconception prevails; it takes about 200 years for a relatively fast star like Bernard's star to travel a distance in the sky equivalent to the diameter of the Earth's moon.

When the seemingly negligible motion of the stars is compared to the motion of the planets, the stars appear motionless. The railway was not the first institution to impose regularity on society or to point out the importance of accurate timekeeping. As long as merchants displayed their wares at dawn and communal celebrations were celebrated, people roughly agreed with their neighbors about the time of day.
