In the learning process, reading can be done in the classroom or outside the classroom because reading is one of the common ways to obtain information. The research is conducted to find out if there is a significant effect of using decoding skills for students' automaticity in reading comprehension. Based on the background of the problem and identification of the problem, the researcher focuses on increasing students' reading comprehension of descriptive text by using decoding skills.

Concept of Reading

Reading is the ability of the cognitive process of the interaction between graphic symbols and the language skills of the reader. Skimming is one of the strategies that can be used to enhance readers' comprehension skills. Therefore, teachers should be able to guide their students through whatever clues are presented in the text that can be used to find the meaning of the words and the content of the text.

Automaticity

When writing descriptive text, there are some general structures (which are actually optional) that can make our writing real. Automaticity refers to the ability to perform complex skills with minimal attention and conscious effort. Automaticity is essential for higher-order thinking such as skilled reading and writing because important subskills must be performed accurately, quickly, and effortlessly.

When reading subskills are performed automatically, higher-order aspects of the task, such as comprehension, can be performed efficiently. When students become truly automatic readers, they will look at a page and read the sequence on it, without unnatural hesitation, they will understand what the words mean on a subconscious level without even having to think or pay much attention to them. absorb their meaning. Because the reading demands on our students are high, students with poor reading fluency may begin to fall, so it is important to provide and use an approach or strategy that can help students practice reading and improve their automaticity.

Decoding Skills

Efficient readers use decoding to translate the printed text into the voice of the language. As the child becomes more adept at decoding, less attention can be spent on recognizing what a word is and more time can be spent on recognizing the meaning of the word. This means that decoding is one of the developmental reading stages of learning to understand the words that make up a sentence.

Decoding in reading comprehension has six components that can help students understand the reading text, such as previewing, identifying main ideas, using contextual vocabulary, scanning for details, reasoning, and positioning reference. Previewing is a strategy that readers use to recall prior knowledge and indicate the purpose of reading. The main idea is a skill that requires careful reading of a text to identify the main point without worrying about unnecessary details.

Using context for vocabulary; According to Sharpe, context is the combination of vocabulary and grammar that surrounds a word. If you know the general meaning of a sentence, you also know the general meaning of the words in the sentence. Harmer states, "If language structures form the skeleton of language, then vocabulary provides the vital organs and the flesh.

The role of vocabulary in reading is clearly understood: vocabulary knowledge, the understanding of word meanings and their use, contributes to reading comprehension and knowledge building.

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

  • Reasearch Design
  • Research Variable and Indicator
  • Population and Sample
  • Research Instrument
  • Technique of Data Collection
  • Technique of Data Analysis

The data were compared with the average of the results before and after the test. Therefore, the students' score in the post-test is better than in the pre-test. Similar to the experimental class, pre- and post-test score data were obtained from the control class.

The author determined on the basis of the consequence that the importance of the data in the experimental class and the controlled class is greater than 0.05. As reported in Table 4.4, the results of the data showed that the significance of the pre-test of the experimental class and the control class is 0.681. The purpose of the effect size test is to determine the significance level (weak, medium, or strong) of the impact of using decoding skills on students' automation in reading comprehension.

Through the data in Table 4.1, the growing average score of the experimental class in the descriptive statistics after the implementation of the Decoding skills showed from 57.5 to 79. In other words, the use of decoding skill has a significant effect on increasing the reading comprehension in descriptive text by the students. It was found that the outcome of the standard deviation of the pre-test of both classes is lower than the post-test; there were 11,158 and 12,274.

Improving reading comprehension of the second year students of SMA Negeri 16 Bulukumba through reciprocal teaching technique.

FINDINGS AND DISCUSSIONS

Findings

The research data was extracted from SMA Negeri 10 Maros from the pre-test and post-test results of tenth grade students. The following description shows the results of the research based on the pre-test and post-test results provided to the research participants. While after the writer introduced decoding skills in teaching comprehension of descriptive text, the post-test was conducted.

Based on the description above, it showed that the mean of the pre-test was 57.5 and the mean of the post-test was 79. After receiving treatment or using decoding skills, the lowest score of the post-test 65 and the highest score of the post-test was 95, and the average of the post-test was 79. From the description above, it can be concluded that the students in the experimental class got the improvement by using decoding skills for the student's automaticity in reading comprehension of descriptive text.

Based on the above description of data in control class above, it showed that the mean of pre-test was 61 and the mean of post-test was 65. According to the result, it can be concluded that pre-test experimental class and control class data are normally distributed. Since the data were greater than the significance point (0.230 > 0.05), the post-test data were found to be homogeneous.

The experiment used data from the post-test scores of the experimental and control classes for comparison.

Discussion

Borobudur Temple is one of the seven wonders of the world whose conditions must be preserved. Most of them admire Borobudur Temple for its beauty, elegance and the story of the relief on the walls. Nusa Lembongan is one of the three island groups in the southeast of Bali, Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan.

It is held on the asura day which falls on the 10th of muharram of the Islamic calendar. Tabuik is also a term used to refer to the tall funeral biers that are carried around during the memorial procession. On the appointed day, all participants of the ceremony gather in the center of the city. The four wings and the six legs of the butterfly are connected to the thorax.

As butterflies age, the wing color fades and the wings become ragged. Nocturnal visitors to the cave will discover the unique feature of glow worms. The bird park is about twelve kilometers from the city center, and it is easy to get there by bus or taxi.

This mosque was found on the banks of the Kuin River, near Kampung Kraton, which was destroyed by the Dutch colony.

CONCLUSIONS AND SUGGESTIONS

Conclusion

This research aimed to show the effect of using decoding skills on students' automaticity in reading comprehension for tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 10 Maros in the academic year 2021/2022. The experimental class was taught using decoding skills, while decoding skills were not imparted to the control class. Based on the data analysis, we can conclude that the use of decoding skills was successful in teaching reading comprehension of descriptive text to the tenth grade students of SMA Negeri 10 Maros.

It can also be proved by the test result and the pre-test and post-test difference between the two score means. In other words, the use of decoding skills in teaching reading comprehension would increase student ability and student score in reading descriptive texts. This means that the decoding skills are effectively implemented in the classroom and that all students demonstrate their progress together.

The people around the world know that Borobudur is one of the greatest works of art known for a long time. Domestic tourists usually go there by bus or private cars, while foreign tourists like to join travel agency because they don't have to think about the transportation, accommodation and itinerary. After interesting the batteries on the back of the robot body, we can make it move when we press the button behind its neck.

The sunset marks the end of the procession, the Tabuiken was bought to a shore and then floated out to sea. The rock phenomenon became a natural "arch" and the cave through which a waterfall cascades is a short one kilometer walk under a dense rainforest canopy from the main picnic area. The birds are kept in large cages, and there are hundreds of beautiful birds from many different parts of the world, including penguins, parrots, eagles and ostriches.
