  • Motivation

With this point of view, we can say that reading comprehension is very important because the Students do not understand what they have read, they cannot catch the idea of the author through reading. By looking at these definitions above, it can be concluded that reading is an active process where the readers try to acquire the information given by the writer and understand what is actually the purpose of the writer. This is done individually; the teacher can individually check his/her Students' ability in the pronunciation and stress of the words as well as the sentence intonation.

If the activity is carried out in a group, the teacher should check and evaluate the students in the group. Skimming happens when the reader only wants to cover the most important information about the main ideas in the reading material in a hurry or in a short time, so the reader has to find out the important things they need by quickly glancing over the reading material. In other words, in skimming we read quickly to get the main ideas and details of the passage.

Of the twelve application principles of learning to read, both teachers and students required how to apply them in the classroom or outside the classroom. In addition, Stevens (1977:4) explains that deciphering means recognizing or patterns of the message, it involves distinguishing writing from other types of patterns, observing the direction of the writer, finding the beginning and end of the text, adjusting the pace what the eye can see. the rate of understanding, and reference back or forward to resolve ambiguity or doubt. The process of reading comprehension can be considered in two phases, namely the mechanical process and comprehension process.

The mechanical process that deals with the reader's activity is followed by the eye movement of the text, and the comprehension process is an ability of the reader to interpret the reading material. And comprehension process includes that the development of the ability, 1) to remember, evaluate and generalize from what the reader has read, 2) to notice and recall the details, and the last, 3) to the writer s ideas and to understand the point of view. Finally, the process of reading comprehension is that the readers read the material to interact and evaluate between the thoughts of the read and the language of the text, decoding and meaning is important for the reader, which he uses to the printed words to relate, to discover, interpret and act upon the meaning, and to assimilate into his total experience.

First to assimilate each aspect of the topic of general information about the topic aspect of new ideas, so they must read the material closely in order to follow the argument and assimilate all those new ideas. Even students are interested in the subject of reading comprehension text, they will soon lose interest if they find difficulty in the vocabulary and structure of the text. In this case, it is the content of the material and not the language that is useful for the teacher or the student.

If learning exercises (for example: grammar) should be part of the program, decide together with the teacher how much time will be spent on them and possibly even complete and correct them independently. And with its unusual writing style, it's one of the best places to look for literature.

The students' improvement in reading comprehension of the text was derived from the average scores of the students. It means that the student's post-test average score was greater than the student's pre-test average score.

This also indicates that there was a difference between the results of the students' pre-test and post-test. The mean score of students' motivation for using English newspaper in reading activity learning is 78.67. Moreover, all the students were motivated in reading activity by using English newspaper as an authentic material.

The description of the data collected through the pretest and posttest, as explained in the previous section, shows that the students' reading comprehension had improved. It is supported by the frequency and percentage percentage of students' pretest and posttest score. The description of the data collected in the pretest shows that the students' reading comprehension was poor.
