Background

Based on the previous explanation, the researcher indicates that the Scrabble game can be used as a media for learning English. Based on the background of this problem, the researcher will conduct a study entitled 'The effect of the Scrabble game on students' speaking skills.

Research Problem

Sadewo (2016) in Using Scrabble Game to Improve Vocabulary Mastery of Grade 10 Students at SMAN 2 Purworejo. This research showed that the implementation of the Scrabble game is experienced positively by students. However, in this study, students enrich students' vocabulary; this study also conducted a Scrabble game to determine students' speaking skills in terms of students.

The questions in the questionnaire focused on whether the use of the Scrabble game affects students' speaking skills. This study aimed to find out whether the use of Scrabble games affects students' speaking skills. The average score of the table describes that the Scrabble game improved students' speaking skills.

Based on the questionnaire, most students agree that playing Scrabble affects their speaking ability out of a total of 15 statements. Another finding showed that students strongly agree that the scratch game helped them improve their speaking ability. It can be concluded that the scratch game has an effect on improving students' skills.

The result is that the researcher has been concluded that scrabble game was a promising method to improve students' speaking skills. The first research problem related to the result of the questionnaire, most of the students perceived that Scrabble game is very useful. Related to second researcher problem, the result of the speaking test showed that Scrabble game was a promising method to improve students' speaking skills.

Speaking is an essential skill as it is the basis of communication and it is the most difficult skill. According to Harmer, speaking is the ability to speak fluently and presupposes not only knowledge of language features, but also the ability to process information and language "on the spot". Chaney argues that speaking is a process of constructing and sharing meaning through verbal and non-verbal symbols in different contexts.

For example, by saying that it is the opposite of empty, we make its meaning perfectly clear; we understand that cheap is the opposite of expensive (Harmer, 2001). Comprehension is the ability to fully understand and be familiar with a situation or facts. The monologue is the spoken language that is a set of lines spoken by an individual where there is only one-way communication.

It is the word that only one person speaks like in lectures, in speeches, etc. If a player makes a play where the key word covers two DWS squares, its value is doubled, then doubled (ie, 4× the value of the word ). The result of the questionnaire would be analytical, and the result of the speaking skill is the finding of this research.

The aim of the questionnaire was to collect information about the students' opinion about the effect of the Scrabble game they always play in UKM Bahasa and through a speaking test to find out the speaking competence of the students. It was designed to help the researcher gain more information about the students' response to the implementation of the Scrabble game. In order to strengthen the data from the students' questionnaire to find out whether the scrabble game affects the students' speaking ability, the researcher asked the students through the speaking skill.

This section discusses the result of the data collected and analyzed, students' perception of the effect of the Scrabble game on students' speaking skills, and speaking tests to support students' statements in questionnaires. Most students agree that the Scrabble game has helped them learn new vocabulary, and students also agree that the Scrabble game has helped them improve their pronunciation. This statement shows that the Scrabble game gave the students the opportunity to improve their speaking skills in pronunciation and vocabulary.

Using scribble game can encourage students to be more excited and motivated to improve speaking skill with their friends in terms of vocabulary and pronunciation. Example: My experience while playing scrabble was very fun and I always got new vocabulary from scrabble game.

FINDING AND DISCUSSIONS

Findings

To make this research data, students related to questionnaires and speaking test using voice note on Whatsapp. Researcher took students in English department of UKM Bahasa who used Scrabble game as a medium to improve their English skills and often. Data from the questionnaires and speaking test used the rules in chapter 3 to find out if the use of scribble games affects students' speaking skills and students' speaking skills competence.

Table 4.1 showed that 8 of students (80%) chose strongly Agreed  and the other students (20%) agreed that speaking is one of important  thing in English

Discussions

The students assumed that they really enjoyed and liked the relaxed atmosphere, the motivation and the competitiveness while playing scribble game. In another word, most students agree that they ever learned to speak using play as the media and eight out of ten strongly agreed that doodling made them motivated to learn to speak. The improvement of speaking elements such as vocabulary and pronunciation was because the students enjoyed it and got positive learning while playing scribble game.

Improving Students’ Vocabulary Achievement By Using Scrabble Game at Tenth Grade Students of Madrasah Aliyah Tahfizhil Quran Yayasan Islamic Center Sumatera Utara (PhD Dissertation, Universitas Islam Negeri Sumatera Utara). Example: I actually used to play Scrabble and it is part of my weak activity in my organization. Sample: As far as I know, Scrabble is a word game that arranges a string of letters on a board. Through this activity I can find new vocabulary and improve my speaking skills.

Example: I just discovered that Scrabble game while participating in ukm bahasa. This game is so much fun that it can improve vocabulary, speaking and focus while playing this game. Example: Scrabble game can help us improve speaking because from this game we can learn a lot of vocabulary and from this vocabulary we can speak fluently, it has a lot of vocabulary. Because with the scrabble game it helps me to get a new vocabulary and understand how to pronounce the word better, which makes my English speaking well.

CONCLUSION AND SUGGESTION

Conclusion

This happened because when the students played scrabble in a group, they can pronounce the given word correctly, so they will share their pronunciation with each other and then confirm it from the dictionary.

Suggestion

The effectiveness of using Scrable games to improve vocabulary mastery and speaking skills in a seven-grade middle school student. The Scramble Game In Improving Students' Vocabulary in the Seventh Grade of MTS LKMD Sawa. First, I can challenge myself to create some words and make some words from the latter that I get in the short time, and at the same time, if I have known about some word0s, then my friend will give or make their own word so I can get new words from my vocabulary list so this is so exciting and beneficial for me.

Example: Actually, when I was asked about doodling, my speaking skill is actually improving, I can't say that this game can give me significant benefits because I can't feel it, I can't directly benefit because it just improves my vocabulary, but actually when I get new vocabulary and I try to memorize so that it will improve my English speaking, it will be directly used in my communication process, for example while playing scrabble, I will communicate with unknown people like my friends in the game, so I directly use the words. Example: My experience while playing scrabble every time I played I always get a new vocabulary I got unknown word that I don't know it even exists. Example: The first time my friends invited me to play this game, I thought it would be so awkward because we just put some vocabulary on the board and get the score, but it's not like that, when I played this game it is very fun when I played with my friends like not only memorize the vocabulary but we have to know a trick how to get a high score and how to put word in the right place place, because each letter has a difference score, so if we can make a similar word with the high score we can make the high score and also pay attiantions with timer.

Sample: The game of Scrabble has really improved my speaking skills, why my opinion is key during speaking when we have a lot of vocabulary, even though you already know the grammar and we are sure that we cannot speak well without vocabulary, so this game is really helpful when you want to improve your speaking skills because when you memorize it and use it in your daily life, it really helps your speaking. Example: I acquire new vocabulary while playing scrabble, so my speaking skills improve step by step. Sample: Speaking is a vocabulary problem and vocabulary is one of the most important things to learn, if you want to speak well with Scrabble you can learn new vocabulary so you can improve your speaking skills by using the new vocabulary you got while playing svrabb;le in your everyday conversation.

Example: I realize that scrabble really helps me improve my speaking because I always gain new vocabulary. Example: To improve my speaking, I think I don't think so, but it still improves my speaking if I use the word I got while speaking English a second time.
