The Implementation of Spelling Bee Game to Improve the Students' Vocabulary Mastery (A Pre-Experimental Research in the Seventh Grade Students of SMP Aisyiah Paccinongan) (Supervised by Nurdevi Bte Abdul, and Saiful). The researcher used pre-experimental method with one group pre-test - post-test design, and collected the data based on the test. The finding of this research showed that the seventh grade students of SMP Aisyiah Paccinongan have very poor score in pre-test.

The result of the research showed that the average score achieved by the students through post-test (74.56) was higher than pre-test (30.56) with the t-test value of vocabulary skill greater than t-table (14.52>2.06). Therefore, the researcher concluded that the improvement of the students' vocabulary mastery with the help of spelling by-play was significantly improved.

Considering the problems faced, the researcher wants to investigate the application of spelling bee game in the learning and teaching activity. The popularity of the Spelling Bee game was then adopted in the movie “Akeelah and the Bee” in 2006. It can be concluded from the result that Spelling Bee can be effectively implemented in English vocabulary learning as almost all learners know the vocabulary and can. to spell the words correctly.

Meanwhile, the survey data shows that 99.24% of students agree that Spelling Bee has a positive impact on student vocabulary learning. Based on the benefits of the Spelling Bee game in vocabulary learning, the researcher wants to conduct an experimental study entitled: The implementation of the Spelling Bee game to improve students' vocabulary mastery. Based on the above background, the researcher formulates the problem in this study as follows: Does the use of spelling byplay improve the pupils' vocabulary control?

Referring to the background and problems, the objective of the study is to know that using the spelling bee game improves the students". 2017) in their research “Improving students' vocabulary mastery through spelling game in the fifth grade of SD Swasta Kalampaian Kunto Darussalam”, the research aims to find out to what extent the use of spelling can improve students' vocabulary mastery. 2016) in her research “Using the spelling bee game to improve students' understanding of the simple past tense.

Spelling Bee is not just about memorizing and spelling the letter of the word. Before starting Spelling Bee game, teacher give the students some words in certain topic, let them.

In this study, the independent variable was the result of the test using the spelling side game. Dependent variable in this study was the result of the test on the improvement of students' vocabulary and pronunciation skills. Finally, the students wrote the word they had spelled on the white board.

The post-test was done to see the final result and to know the difference in students' scores before receiving the treatment and after receiving the treatment. Findings were focused on data analysis including test result and hypothesis examination. The students' vocabulary mastery in terms of action verbs using the spelling game was different in the pre-test and post-test.

In pre-test, the students' vocabulary mastery was less satisfactory about action verb, but after applying the use of spelling bee, the students understand more about the decision of the action verbs to obtain appropriate meaning, it can be clearly seen in table 4.1. The table showed that all the students got very poor score classification in the pre-test of action verb. In the pre-test all the students only got a very poor score classification, but in the post-test there were students who got higher score classification in poor score classification.

Students' vocabulary mastery in terms of concrete nouns using the be spelling game was different in the pre-test and post-test. In the pre-test, the students' vocabulary mastery was less satisfactory for the concrete noun, but after applying the use of spell bee, the students understand more about identifying the concrete noun to get the correct meaning, this can be clearly seen in the table 4.4. The table showed that most students still had a very poor classification on the concrete noun pretest.

In the pre-test, most of the students still got a very poor score rating, but in the post-test, most of the students got a higher score rating in a poor score rating. Their vocabulary mastery by applying spelling bee play was different in the pre-test and the post-test. The improvement in the students' vocabulary mastery was clearly shown in the following table.

The t-test result of the data analysis of the student's vocabulary test using the spelling bee game in Table 4.4. Table 4.1 showed that the result was to determine the mastery of vocabulary in terms of the action verb, the average score of the pre-test was 17.12, and after using the spelling game, the average score of the post-test was 31.2. Then, Table 4.4 showed that the vocabulary mastery finding score was in the concrete noun phrase, with the mean pretest score being 13.44, and after using the spelling game, the mean posttest score was 43.36.

After the researcher administered the spelling game treatment, the average student's vocabulary mastery score on the posttest was 74.56, which is categorized as a good classification. The test result showed that the spelling bee game had a positive effect on The results of the above research are also supported by the results of Yunisrin et al. 2017) who conclude that using a spelling game in the classroom improved students' English vocabulary.

In addition, Rahayu (2009) said that the implementation of spelling bee games is able to help students improve their spelling ability. To summarize, based on the result of this research, which showed that students' scores were much higher after the treatment, the use of spelling bee games can improve students' vocabulary mastery. The result of using spelling aids in vocabulary mastery regarding action verbs showed the improvement. The average score for the students in the pre-test was 17.12 and the post-test which was 31.2.

It indicated that the implementation of the spelling bee game was effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery in terms of action verbs. Along with the result of using spelling bee game in vocabulary mastery in terms of concrete noun, the improvement was also apparent. It indicated that the implementation of the spelling bee game was effective in improving students' vocabulary mastery in terms of concrete nouns.

Therefore, the improvement of students' vocabulary mastery using the spelling game was significantly improved. It is suggested to the teacher to use the spelling bee game through English as materials, because it is effective to increase students' vocabulary mastery.
